- We look back at the five coolest airplanes we got up close and personal with in 2022! We’ve flown most of them, but the top aircraft is one we can’t wait to get our hands on.
No. 5: Tecnam P2012

No. 4: TBM 960

No. 3: Diamond DA50 RG

No. 2: Kodiak 900

No. 1: Van’s Aircraft RV-15

We can’t wait to see what new aircraft are in store for general aviation in 2023! We’ll be there to take you along for the reveal and hopefully an early flight!

Kind of interesting that the #1 choice wasn't test flown, but chosen based on appearance and promises.
Definitely the Sling High Wing over the RV15, plus the Sling HW is commercially available and has great performance numbers, not to mention a more modern look to it.
Pacific Air PAC-750 for the win. A true work horse, long living, performant, and extremely reliable to boot.
ooh the tecnam, retracts and (almost) voila Aero Commander 🙂
The RV15 is not available in 2022 it should make next year’s list.
And how did the RV15 beat out the Sling TSI high-wing taildragger? I saw both at Oshkosh, and the Sling is awesome!
Wasn’t even close….Sling must not be spending enough advertising dollars with AOPA!
Would love any of these apart from number one.
Tecnam P2012 = twin otter with piston engines; definitely I will go for Dehavilland DHC - 6.
I would love to see that RV 15 on floats.
If you review, give information: price $$$, gallons per hour. ETC
The Diamond DA50 would be a Cirrus killer if it were not 40% more expensive and a retractable destroying its chances. Cirrus still owns the 180kt cruise piston single market while companies keep missing the target. The RV15 pales compared to the Rans Outbound. The Rans already comes in a tricycle gear config and has two engine choices the Rotax 915is and the Titan both better than the lame lycoming offered in the RV15. Another miss on your first choice AOPA.
We have a lot of tecnams in pilot schools in Poland. There are just with the Rotax engines running on Mogas
#145👍😀Auto everything! The twin is weird with fixed gear. The Jet-A retractable looks interesting and fun! Great show!!
ERAU 80 CFIA&I ret.
Just a couple of Twin Otters out there that may have a story or two for you.
That 960 is what I want to buy.
Amazing
How are the world could the RV 15 possibly be you’re number one pick! What are you guys/Gals smoking?
They probably paid for the video
you mention back country flying several times but none of these wonder planes can truly live in the back country without floats. Will they eventually be available ?
You would have more subscribers if it did not feel like I was watching a old rerun on channel 4. Nice video though. Make it more like a personal experience.
Civil Air Patrol needs to replace the dying GA-8 fleet with the Tecnam...
TBM all day long. 17:36
The cost of these things are absolutely astronomical. They have to adjust to this coming recession....
RV 15 who designed it?
Looks like a Murphy Rebel
Hi Ron, Van's Aircraft designed it.
@@alyssacobb3432 is
@@alyssacobb3432 I know it’s designed by Van’s but it looks a whole lot like a Murphy like the Rebel or moose
What about airplanes that don't require that I am a hedge fund manager to be able to buy?
And where is the G100 fuel
n 7357 ideal para o brasil visão panoramica onde e fabricado cidade e estado gostaria de conhecer a fabrica !
Kodiak 900.... full marks.
The RV15 is much overrated.
How so?
@@mattym8 to much hype around a VAN‘s Prototype.
I was surprised to see it in this list. It's not even a final design yet. No passenger seating, exploring the flaps envelope... They don't even share cruise and fuel burn estimates. This is a 2024+ release occupying a 2022 video
2.5 million? I just can't see howTecnam can make enough money selling a few of these high wing utility twin to justify the effort. I could get a Twin Otter for a small fraction of that. Or a Cessna Caravan, with better climb performance than the Tecnam and more useful load.
Matatan.🤔. Ribirin HS,
por favor podem traduzier para o Portugues do BRASIL GOSTARIA DE CONHECER ESTAS FABRICAS TPM KODIAK E OUTRAS a espera por convites ! sonhos de 2023
"Top 5 coolest" doesn't make sense. It's just "5 coolest." When you have a word ending in "est" in the title, you don't put "top" in there also. Otherwise... yeah, pretty cool!
What we look “forward to” in 2023 is yet another season (since day one of GA) of aircraft affordable by a few thousand people, while others fly worn out older hardware or parachutes or they have crappy lifestyles and pour the remainder into an old aircraft. Or they’re one of the business owners taking all kinds of tax dodges to gain advantage. Always been a tragedy to call it “general aviation”, nothing general about it, it’s luxury/privilege aviation, quite a shame.
lookup. FLYING CLUBz
The Tecnam is unpressurized yet costs jet money. TBM is a single prop colonial noise maker yet costs more than the suave Embraer Phenom 100 twin jet. Diamond's shift to diesel is interesting but DA50 weighs close to 1.6 ton, the same as a pressurized Phenom 100 twin jet and costs 1.2million. Massive failure on two fronts. The Kodiak speed is speced at 12000feet in an unpressurized plane so are they aiming for hypoxia as standard? RV15 is yet another outback rivet bird in a design that could be 100 years old. The Taylor Cub is nearly 100 years. And it's a kit build with all the burden that comes with that. Where is the ambition, the innovation, that actually amounts to something. Not just worse and more expensive.
Lancair IV-P is one man's design 30 years ago and no commercial product comes close to its performance. What is that but abject failure of the entire industry. And it could be done much better today.
Are you comparing similar planes with similar missions?
The Tecnam holds 9 passengers, the Phenom holds 5.
The Tecnam would work for short passenger flights, ferrying stuff or parachuting.
The TBM or Phenom are totally different planes for much different missions.
Surely you can innovate something better then - but no eh? I bet people are just too dumb to understand how brilliant you are. Where are the guys that get things done? In this video buddy.
@@wildewille20 I happen to be in the statistically unlikely and privileged situation where yes I can. Hopefully that doesn't offend you too much.
@@acasualviewer5861 Still pretty strange to have the same asking price or more for products which are in a pretty different class technology-wise...
@@pistonburner6448 unfortunately new planes are very expensive. And this one has 2 engines.
The RV looks like a 182 on steroids. Doesn't resemble any RV I've seen, not very impressive. Should have been in the no#5 spot if not in 2023 line up.
Tecnam not the most advanced. Da62 has retracts and diesel engines
The only type of "aircraft" I saw were all airplanes. So why not call them airplanes. If you were also showing other types of aircraft I can understand the use of the word, "aircraft".
Looks more like wealthy aviation 🤷♂️ nothing general about it
Number 5 is not a modern plane,it seems C-170 look,don't like it "
I’ll take the Britain-Norman Islander over the Tecnam. Even at its age. Too much electronics can limit pilot control and problem solving. The Islander is stronger too.
P2012 is a pile of crap. Work around Cape Air tecnams. Leak oil like made and always have fadec issues
Actually Number one is the worst airplane.
Really? How do you figure that?
🙂👍🌹
Tecnam 2012? You can't be serious. It is probably one of the worst aircraft lemons of all time? Epic fail.
why? what's wrong with it?
@@acasualviewer5861 Oh, nothing really. You should buy one.
Well the market will answer that question. My guess: You clueless, Tecnam win.
