I absolutely love the backstory of this home and this courageous woman! The home is lovely, from what I could see, and so unassuming from the street view.
Awesome house! I remember seeing a news story about this house about 7-10 years ago and thought it was hilarious what 'the mole man' had been doing for so many years! Its really amazing how the house has ended up thanks to Sue Webster and her architect!! Well done for preserving such an unusual house and actually making it a work of art! Really really beautiful!!
@Travis Rabble Only a burden of privilege if you're someone like Stella McCartney, others have to fight their way to the top and live in places like this not really by their own choice.
@Travis Rabble Nah not always true. The curse of my one friend sadly her family has never been well off and she had to pay for all of her school. She had one more year but decided to take a break and work to save money but now she has gotten in a cycle of the school not giving her full financial aid since she is working and would be considered part time. So she is pretty sure she will never be able to finish her last year and get the degree. She is photographer but the work she does if very not main stream, she hates wedding, landscape, basic and boring photography would sooner make her want to die. So she is cursed with the love of the weird in photography and would never be satisfied at any corporate company since she thinks so abstractly. She has no privilege, but due to the way she thinks of the world she feels trapped. Being a artist with no money and a niche interest is a curse
A clear example that the harmony of a place is the human being, raw walls, unfinished spaces, exposed concrete, rusty old paint, and yet put together, it agrees beautifully with art, with the cosmovision of its owner, furniture with timeless design, adequate lighting, serene vegetation ... a space that, starting from conflict and decadence, embraces creativity.
Inspiring stirring my dull roots with spring rain... mmn, artists are never ever satisfied, its what I have forgotten about me, thanks Sue, love the house.
I lived in lower Clapton at the time when he was digging and the story about him was he was a Polish refugee who hid from the Nazis in cellars and they tunnelled from house to house, it must have triggered something in his head and he just kept tunnelling to feel safe and he just enjoyed doing it, as for the sign. . . "HELLO BOYS" at this time there were loads of squats and derelict houses in Hackney and Clapton so it didn't stand out too much, corrugated iron sheets were more common than flowers in front of houses then, we squatted for years and loads of people did around us,
Wow that's interesting! I live in Hackney and knew about the Mole Man but I didn't know what had happened to the house - love the way it's been revamped.
I like the house a lot.The rawness and honesty of the texture paired with glass and minimalist approach was really cool. We can only comment on this house but definitely not judge. Every house is unique. User shapes his habitat.
Harold Budd "Balthus Bemused by Color"; Benoît Pioulard "Moss Detail", "Ruth"; Brian Eno "Light Paintings"; Brian Eno/Harold Budd "Wind in Lonely Fences"; Daevid Allen "Euterpe Gratitude Piece"; Oneohtrix Point Never "Woe Is The Transgression II" are all good branching off points, but the music used in this video is Daniel Lanois-ish, especially if you're into the guitariness aspect, of which "Asylum" from Slingblade OST and "Signals" from the Apollo OST he did with Brian Eno, are good recommendations. Last, but certainly not least (in fact the greatest) is Daniel Lanois, Harold Budd, and Brian Eno's album The Pearl. All these recommendations and further exploration of the artists will lead you to the vibe that you resonated with in this clip.
A man who built a house with whatever he could find with little money. A woman who restored it with lots of money. Moral, it takes money to buy what was made with no money.
I love this woman and I love her house. And I totally get where she's coming from when she says "Being born an artist is to live with a burden that you carry around. It consumes you and you're never satisfied ."
@@user-os5sd7sz4v Ha! Yeah, I have that burden too, unfortunately I cannot succumb to my "burden" because I have to go to my job so that I am not hampered with the burden of starvation.
It would have been rather nice to retain the Moleman's tunnels and stabilise them structurally so that the traffic didn't disappear into a sinkhole, but I fully understand the council's decision to fill them with concrete for safety reasons.
Could somebody, ANYBODY, PLEASE tell which band or who is playing the music starting at 00:11. The question has been asked, but somehow NOBODY is answering it. Please help.
There is a lot of houses in brazil that is Just like her's... but its because we dont have money to finish

This is a masterpiece. The house. The cinematography. The vision 👌
This House was so lucky to have this woman🥰

"A place no-one wanted to touch, obviously" - apart from several busloads of property developers.
This woman is so Shoreditch/Hackney it's unreal.....

So true.

EVERY ONE IS AN ARTIST AS WE ALL CREATE
HOWEVER
SOME CREATERS ONLY SEE ART THAT ENDS IN THEIR OWN REFLECTION.

I'd love to have her burden of a couple of million pounds for the house and the works by a snazzy high profile architect... Such a drag.
