late reply to this video i recently heard every single one of these albums and my rankings are pretty similiar as well and 2 thumbs up for mentioning those 2 o:rang albums they're hidden underrated gems i happen to also stumble upon after finishing "Mark Hollis" since i felt there was some more Talk Talk scratch that my ears needed to itch and those o:rang albums were a surprising joy that filled the void lol.
Cheers! More people have to hear those in my opinion. 'O' Rang's first album in particular is one of my favourite 90s records. For fans of Lee Harris' work, he plays on Bark Psychosis' Codename: Dustsucker. An amazing album.
Thanks for this video. Agree 100% with your ranking. And thanks for the Orang tip. I’m a huge fan. Am working on my debutalbum and James Marsh had created my cover art. What a talenten designer and a sweet soul he is. Cheers!
@@AndysRambles Melancholic pop. With the deep sounds of the 80's. You probably will hear some Talk Talk and Japan in there. I'm halfway there. But producing an album with analog gear, real musicians and good songs takes time and money. Much more time than I expected. I've released 3 singles up to now and they are doing very well. Thanks for asking :)
Colour of Spring will always be number one for me. Just like you said, it sits right in the middle of their new wave origin and their progressive end game. It summarizes the artistic progression of the band perfectly.
Time It's Time... My favourite song (and that of many other people), with a final two minutes that brings me to tears, and you thought it was just 'OK" and didn't do much for you? I don't get it.
@@mhoroky no it's ok.. I listened to it when my grandfather passed and I see how it can evoke a certain kind of emotion. just was explaining why it wouldn't have done as much as Such A Shame chartwise
@@escaton74 Time It's Time is an album track, and was never destined to be a single or a hit. I'm glad about that. It means that the people who discover some of Talk Talk's best songs look deeper than the top 40 charts to discover them. Ever notice how many artists and musicians cite Spirit of Eden as Talk Talk's best album? There's a reason for that.... :)
I completely lost track of Talk Talk over the years and have only recently re-discovered them. Absolutely BLOWN AWAY by Spirit if Eden. What a departure from the typical trajectory of pop music and rock in general. It is so deeply spiritual and intimate. What in the world could have sparked this?? Perhaps we will never know.

Nice Warpaint poster. I've seen them perform twice! It's funny because the band I was drumming in all liked Warpaint collectively. We were labeled "post rock" by our peers. But I wanted to break that mold so badly. We all listened to a wide eclectic range of music from Heavy Metal to Hip-Hop and much more. Well, after being labeled "Post Rock" and I guess having similarities to Mogwai & Explosions in the Sky I really wanted to find out where this post rock genre of music began. Low and behold.. Talk Talk. When I stumbled across that I was very confused yet intrigued. My first response was "Really? The 'It's My Life' guys where pioneers in paving the way for post rock?!" Songs like Eden and Ascension Day are beautiful early examples of what was to come for many other bands later on. My 4 year old son & I sing along to The Party's Over & It's My Life albums in its entirety all the time! Timeless music. Talk Talk evolved, beautifully. My fav songs from each album: The Party's Over: Today It's My Life: Tomorrow Started Color of Spring: I Don't Believe in You Spirit of Eden: Eden Laughing Stock: New Grass (my funeral song) Mark Hollis' solo release is great as well. Took me a while to fully appreciate it. Good video btw
Thanks so much for the insightful reply. Man, it’s always nice to talk with folks that like the whole gamut of Talk Talk’s music. An incredible journey from start to finish! Warpaint are phenomenal especially live I would say. Had the pleasure of seeing them a couple times in concert; all four are incredible musicians that are always locked into each other when jamming.
