  • Traffic Protection part 1 - RSVP FRR
Fast Reroute (FRR) is a mechanism in RSVP-TE used for network protection and restoration. When a failure occurs in the network, such as a link or node failure, FRR provides a method for quickly switching traffic over to a backup path to avoid network disruption.
The primary types of RSVP FRR protection are:
Node protection: If a node (a device like a router or switch) fails in the network, FRR shifts the traffic to a backup path that avoids the failed node.
Link protection: If a link (the connection between two nodes) fails, FRR moves the traffic to a backup path that doesn't use the failed link.
