Thank you Plan Academy for this informative video. I tried the suggested method and it worked for Actuals but failed to import Expected Finish date. I have used copy and paste function in Excel to ensure the formatting is not an issue but again the import of expected finish date did not work. Please advise.

Just getting started with Primavera and was looking for a way to make the data maintenance easier and faster.
Glad i found your videos. I'm sure they will help me out a lot !
We have a small milling shop and no data collection. All the shop data has to be collected and then input by hand... And of course no one has the time to sit down with you for an hour or two and update project progress... I think using excel to get my progress reports from the supervisors and then simply importing it to P6 just solved this problem for me ! I'm also thinking of using a tablet to go on the shop floor directly and getting the info...
I am also thinking of giving the supervisors an export of the task list by date just like you showed in the video so they can have there to do list at hand... We also have flatscreen TVs everywhere that are barely used... A lineup of work by deparment displayed on those would be a great thing to see !!! hehe
Thanks for the vids and ideas !

thank you for sharing this knowledge. however i encounter a problem during importing . i.e it gives an error that ERROR: Failed to find a matching object for Activity. and when i saw your video i even tried prefixing each cell with the apostafy which was even missing from the first row of the exported p6 file. i'd really appreciate if you could help.

Excellent video. Actually I am having a problem in the import Excel file. I am receiving the information that "User prefence files are not the same as your current preferences importing this files... " even if I export it moments ago. So I keep the procedure and the log shows me in the end "ERROR: Failed to find a matching object for Activity".

I see. Try this - first export some data from P6 to Excel. This will ensure the user preferences which are setup on the USERDATA tab in Excel match with P6. Then use that excel as a template to import.

i have exported my p6v18 file into an excel(.xlsx), made sure the format was the same for the start_date , end_date
    , cstr_date
then i took one date from a row and manually copied it to another cell to see if it would actually import back in p6v18, and literally nothing happens, no errors code, primavera tell me the import is sucessful but there is no change at all.
how is this possible? why are there no change on my primavera? what are the possible causes for this?
note: that my excel date format is already set to personalised when exported from primavera, there is no * in the excel cells in the date rows, please let me know if you have any solution for this problem
also note: start_date top column contains the (*) symbol , is it possible to then change my date or am i doing something wrong,
but: the cstr_date does not have the same (*) symbol , i would have figured that one of these would be changeable

not sure, but you might have to reschedule your project. This is also not the way to update dates. P6 calculates dates - that's what CPM does, calculate start and finish dates. So perhaps try changing a duration instead.

Can you update BL Project dates in P6v18.8 using the excel import/ export?

    • @PlanAcademy
      @PlanAcademy  5 лет назад +1

Hi Benjamin - no you cannot. Your question begs alot of other questions - for example you should only be inputting Actual Dates, let P6 calculate Planned Dates using the Scheduler feature. To update a baseline, you have to restore it as a project, then you can update it - but again let P6 calculate dates - only use Excel to input Actual Dates.

It was a “short cut” kind of question. Not a common practice question.
