That depends on who your target buyer is. A high end hot rod is highly desirable and surely will cost more to build resulting in a big price tag. A true well kept original ‘32 survivor ( which this isn’t) is highly prized by collectors who will gladly pay a high price. Since Matt and Steve are putting this one together, it will be a far cry from a backyard build by a couple of teenagers with whatever parts they could scrounge and make fit.

I am 45 and when I was cutting my teeth with vintage cars when I was a young teenager I used to hate fuzzy dice and Continental kits (and billet street rods or monochrome rides) but as I get older I can appreciate all corners of the old car hobby and now that people my father's age and his fathers age are almost all gone it's kind of sad not seeing all those 1950s cruisers done up the way they thought it was cool in 1955. Today I am seeing cars from my youth that I never saw as cool like Toyota supras, Mazda RX-7s, Ford Fairmont Futuras and the god awful ugly 5.0 Mustang... Just think in a few more years you are going to see fart can exhaust make a comeback just like Continental kits did in the 1980s and 90s lol

I would say a lot of these cars wouldn't still exist without the hot rod movement in the mid-20th century. That is why old fords were saved. I love what you're doing!!! I am on the model a club of American facebook page and there was a guy that bought a rusted out phaeton missing everything except the body and a rolling chasis and was bragging how he saved it from being turned into a hot rod. All I could think was that car is going to sit outside and rust away because it will never get restored.

    • @AtomicReverend
      @AtomicReverend Месяц назад

What's even funnier is once it is restored (that is if they actually follow through with it) is it really restored with made in Taiwan vintique parts? Don't get me wrong the quality is pretty good on most of the reproduction parts but the car is only original once and when they are missing three quarters of the tiny (and expensive trim bits) and drive train parts you're either restoring the car because you're sentimental about that particular car or you don't realize what you are about to and the insane cost involved with a restoration or because you want a challenge that almost no one will understand.
Don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with a hot rod or a restored car but when it comes to a Ford they are pretty common nothing is rare not even a 32 ford phaeton, they were a mass-produced item and almost all of them as they hit 20 and 30 years old were saved because the 32 Ford is probably the coolest car ever made.
From a restoration standpoint I would be more impressed with somebody restoring a Chevrolet from 1932, the car is pretty much all wood in the framing of the body and if it survived it's a rare sight today because they all fell apart when they started to get some age on them back in the 1950s and 1960s. Or I would also be really impressed if somebody was saving one of the orphan cars like a bantam or Studebaker because there wasn't a whole lot of them made at what was made most of them did not survive because they were not considered cool cars other than maybe the 1932 Studebaker dictator coupe (there is a cool surf song if you ever want to look it up about that car).

I can't think of a better crew , so do what you do . As I see it , whatever energy was spent "making" that car , was very well spent . 92 years of being a car , hot rod , a car , & now a hot rod again . We Americans know how to build things , & We are damn good at it . Seems We should still continue to do what We do best . Make cool stuff , that runs forever , overbuilt , & over done . Iron Trap Garage , DOING IT ! Look at all of those period correct parts ! Perfect for someone to put an old 32 back to original factory perfection ! All good parts , even painted !

    Hey guys,
If you put a 2"to 2-1/2" steel ring over your slings, just below the hoist hook, it will choke the sling against the hook, and you won't have to worry about the tranny dropping and ending up with the engine standing on the tailshaft.
And you won't need to use your weight to "balance" the load.

Wait a min, this is a wonderful opportunity to see a recreation of exactly how guys went about doing this back in the 40's. The haters should look at it as not so much ruining an original 32, but sacrificing one survivor to have a chance to document on film how the conversion was done. It's almost as historically significant as the original was itself.....and before people say it's documented in multiple publications and online....kids probably won't be reading those in the future but will be watching this if they want to learn how it was done.

Seems like a authentic period correct upgrade, esp with the 35-36 engine. Its not like your fitting an LS with TH400 !

Any significant weight difference V8 vs 4 that could impact mounts, stance, suspension, rims/tires and braking? For sure some muffler mods? Speed difference?

I'm a subscriber who watches most of the Iron Trap videos, even though I'm not an early car guy nor exactly what you'd call a "Hot Rodder". I'm a Porsche guy, 356's and early 911's are my interest. I am also one who commented against hot rodding this particular car. I thought that someone had put a lot of time and effort into that vehicle so pass it on to so0meone who'd appreciate it as it was. I mean how many 32 Ford hot rods does one need? Matt you , (past VW history ) might be aware of Rod Emory, who is famous for hot rodding 356 Porsches. His grandfather was a 50's California hot rodder, then his dad was also so now Rod and his kids are 3 & 4th generation hot rodders. Rod whose "outlaw" 356's sell on the open market for prices approaching $1 million never starts with an original, or rare, base for his creations. He respects that aspect so he looks for cars in what he terms "goldilocks" zone not too rusted or bent but not cars that are suitable for preservation or restoration. I agree with that and that was the basis of my comment or as you guys say, complaint!

Hi the color brought me back 40 years when I painted a model A truck! I could never figure out why they called the color "gun metal blue" it looks green. maybe the guy that named it was color blind😂

Matt if the roadster is junk and worthless you can sent it to my house for "scrapping"...wink wink. You can include that flathead V8, also.😆

A thought just came to me about that 4 cyl find a Generator big enough to run the shop and use that motor to power it and use an old car as the Generator house and it will blend with all your cars

which is why I'm building my 38 chevy pickup how I want to even though it is completely original.
I'm selling off any usable original parts I remove to help pay for the build which may get a few other pickups back on the road too

Matt you should see the 32 Ford Chip Foose found he bought off a retired auto shop school teacher really nice original 32 find. He said he's just going to get it running good and leaving as is way to nice to butcher up.
