Brilliantly clear demonstration of the pedal; not just the sounds, but the different dry/wet blends, which is a vital factor in the usefulness of this effect.
I have always loved the Mellotron and its ghostly, ethereal tone possibilities. Though an inveterate multi-instrumentalist, I am admittedly less skilled on keys than on guitar/bass/percussion, and I despaired of finding a Mellotron 1) in working order, 2) that I could play competently. This pedal is outstanding for on-the-fly string arrangements, but I also found the flute setting adapts especially well to tremolo effects. Needless to say, the pedal features prominently on an album I'm currently recording. You showcase it so well!
Nice work with the Moodys in there on the flute setting! I've loved the mellotron for so long and this brings a lot of those original qualities, like the wow/flutter, that are what made the tape replay instrument sound so beautiful.
Fun fact about the Moody Blues and the Mellotron! It was none other than Mike Pinder who delivered and set up the Mellotron in Studio B of Abbey Road, mere weeks before The Beatles did Strawberry Fields. About two weeks after the Sgt. Pepper's sessions wrapped, The Zombies checked in to begin work on Odessey and Oracle -- having been suggested the Mellotron because their label, on the back of a string of flop singles like "I Know She Will" (which features a lovely orchestral arrangement), refused to disburse the funds to hire an arranger and symphony section. And thus, the legend of the Mellotron was born.
@@PerryFrank I purchased the Mel9. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's a little dry when used direct, but putting it through some effects makes it amazing. Thanks again.
This is a Great unit I got one and found if you put a good quality compressor before it and a good reverb after it, it really smooths it out nice and takes all the sharpness out of it to give a more natural orchestration sound . I used the compressor from the Analog Alien Joe Walsh Double Classic before it and the 80s studio Reverb setting on the Strymon Flint , Sounds Incredible ⭐️🌞👍🏻
Yes, I use the EHX Tube Black FInger compressor, and the Zoom G1xON after, really nice. Also I use a PT2399 kinda echo Delay to really make it sound big!
The Mel9 is the heart of my main board. Dry (a mix control) is set to zero, so the wet & dry channels have their own FX. The Mel9 goes through phaser, shimmer and volume pedal. With a 12-string electro-acoustic guitar I find that the orchestra, low choir & high choir track best, but flute is a lovely sound for the occasional lead line.
The strings effect would sound amazing playing fantasy games soundtrack. Imagine Good Riddance from the Hades, The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim or Build that Wall from Bastian?
Master, I feel that on the 4th string there of the 15th or 16 fret the sound drops considerably and just as it goes down to tone towards fret 12 or 10 the sound increases, is this normal in the master pedal?
@@PerryFrank Yeah. The whole thing was moving. Sensitively performed. I was going to buy the pedal but now suspect that your video was the definitive performance, and that there is nothing I could add.

The syth guitar pedals need to step up their game before MPE keyboards finally get an accurate string sound and replace us all 😂 damn you Roli Seaboard! 😂
They keep taking this down and canceling it. So sick of our fascist society telling us what is ok to find funny in comedy itself. It’s getting worse out here in their cancelled shows

Totally agree, one of the best from EHX
Check out the String9!

Best demo of this pedal ever.
Little sigur rósey at the beginning. Love it.
Thank you very much 🙏
I bet when it's recorded with other instruments this sounds even better
I wish every pedal reviewer had a Fender XII Strat, I’d love to hear these with a 12 string
Thanks. This was the demo I was looking for. I'm going to order the mel9 tomorrow (payday!!)

I was just sittingbhere thinking how to swell into and out of things. Cs3, mel9, rv6, volume pedal
Awesome stuff as always mate - the 9 series from EHX, the Mel and Key specifically don’t get enough love
I think Mel9 is the best of that series
I really want one of these and I love how you did this demo video. You rock !

Interesting. The effects sound pretty cool, but they all appear to have a rotating speaker / chorus wobble to them that isn't adjustable. Or is it?
I call it the Tony Banks Tone Bank
I'm going to buy Mel9 first, then Synth9, hell, maybe Key9 too
There is the String9 also now

Can you do a saxophone solo?please?like Glenn Frey or Kenny G style?

You recommend the effects loop or front of amp?
This pedal is better direct into the amp
I wish you put Effect knob on 100% 😔
I don't use it at 100% because I don't like the tone in that setting
It's sound like mellotron
Chill with the vibrato, kids.

Direct connection or loop effect connetion ?

Is there any similar alternatives to this pedal years end 2023 ?
If you refer to a pedal that emulates the mellotron tones I don't know an alternative to this pedal nowadays.

Does it work with distortion? 😢
You can put distortion before or after it, it depends on the sound you want to create

You can't change the rate of the tremolo, and that's why i'll never get this.
