People buy a lighter bike, then pack them like mules, destroying why they bought them in the first place. Be brutal when packing. You don’t need five pairs of socks. Do you really need a stove when you know there’s food 20 minutes ride from where you’ve camped? Need that massive heavy tent (looking at you Lone Rider - your stuff is utterly ridiculous) when you can bivy camp with a tarp? At its barest of essentials, you need one change of clothes, two pairs of woollen underwear, one pair of socks (the other waterproof) tarp, bivy, water, some protein bars, tools, tubes, electrical parts, nav system, first aid kit, EPIRB .. why bring a chair when you can sit on your mattress? You’ll have a better time on the bike.
I so agree. Too many times I see a bike with every type of luggage that can be attached to the bike packed on, and when you ask them where they came from or where are they going they say I trailered the bike here gonna ride the area and stay local.
If I’m spending 10 hours in the saddle, 14 hours in camp/hiking/relaxing, why do I have to sit in the dirt and wake up tired and sore just to claim I’m on an adventure??
@@slaveoptics for me? Facts don't change for people. You think bike development happens in a year? It takes atleast 2.5 to 3 years to completely test them and make them ready for production. And you think this CF would be the reason for these new bikes?
The Kove 450 Rally weigh is 319 pounds dry. It holds 8 gallons of fuel so depending on how much gas you put in it it still weighs quite a bit less than the competition. The version I ride has 52 hp which makes the bike very spirited and fun to ride. I look forward to the BMW model. I know they’ll do a great job if they don’t make it too heavy.
I am in the market for a bike in this class. The F450GS would be at the top of my wish list, followed by the 390 Adventure R. In the end, price will probably sway me to the new Suzuki DR-Z. Some winge about its weight, but it is much lighter than any of the competition. Stock suspension looks good and tuning would give it competitive power. Most importantly, it will be reliable and cheap to maintain.
If someone would make a decent fuel tank for the klx300 it would make an excellent lightweight adv with a rally fairing installed. Too bad its been largely ignored by the aftermarket. Im betting since the drz will be world wide it will have w massive aftermarket. Ive already emailed safari asking for low slung fuel tanks.
So many people, especially young people, in a democracy chose not to vote which is a shame. It was great to see that Ms Zoe exercised her franchise to cast her vote.
Yep, i fit that market. Im 55. Have been riding a 2011 DRZ400 since new in 2012. These old DRZ's are rick solid. Has 55,000 miles on her and she still runs and looks better than new. Had my eye set on the CFMotot 450 for a while since KTM killed the 490adv. Not interested in the 450 Himalayan. But the KTM 390 adventure R looks fricken awesome and will be available soon. The BME we all know is not just a concept bike. BMW does not spend the kind of money without plans for it. But people that are complaining about the 19" front wheel like you are, look at the king...the BMW1300GS...what size does that have on it.....oh yeah, a 19" front wheel but yet dubbed the king of ADV. My buddy follows me with his street tires on his DRZ400SM.....those are 17" wheels. Hops logs, doed watsr crossing, has zero issues following anywhwere. Yes the 21" will be slightly smoother on rough roads. You should go ride a bike with 19" front wheels. Its hardly noticeable. I for one am now going to wait until end of 2025 now to buy a new bike. Have to just wait and see. As my DRZ400 will do me just fine for now. As it will cruise all day long at 80mph+ loaded down with gear. Or swap the sprockets and it will do single track with the best of them. So yes. This next year will be awesome for us shorter older riders.
DRZ is a bike I'd like to own. The big BMWs I don't consider do all motorcycles. I like to get on some single track rutted out trails at times and find the 21 in wheel is a bit better. All in all if you put a 17, 28, 19, 21 in front of me I would ride any of them.
There is no unicorn bike. I happen to have both an 07, R1200GS and 2000 Dr-z400 for different types of trip I'm taking, purpose, or moods that I'm in. Love them both for different reasons. Both do the same things on different ends of the spectrum. But both are proven and reliable but serve differing purposes. My first real motorcycle was a 74 DT400 that I rode everywhere and always wanted a Beemer GS for an unknown reason. When I got the R1200GS I was a little overwhelmed by its size after being on smaller bikes but have grown to love it for most of my riding. The DR-Z400 fills the fun but capable niche/ utility purposes.
Well, I have a BMW 1200GS and a Husqvarna 701 however I’m 75 now and really need to downsize. Lightweight with a low seat (about 32”) are important to me a 19” front wheel is fine. I’d love a nice tft dash with cruise and a bit of wind protection. I haven’t seen any of these bikes in the flesh. 2025 looks promising.
There's been several speak about the Kove. I will definitely look into it. I think it is a cross between Adventure bike and Enduro. Just my opinion. It looks good on paper.
Thanks for the great video. I have to say, I think the new Suzuki DRZ 4S is in a Great option to have an adventure version. Especially if the five speed has a wider ratio like some people are saying. If that meant another 30 lb in parts, That would still undercut the new BMW by 20 lb. I wonder if they'll do it? Doesn't sound like Suzuki, but if they did it I think it would sell like hotcakes.
Kind of a class of their own and closer to Enduro but definitely worth the look, just not a for the average rider from what I've heard. Thanks for the comment.
Im 53 and looking for my first adventure bike, coming off a YZ450F, I think the BMW 310 is too small but when the 450 comes out I am all in. Where is Yamaha in this class?
I curious about the BMW because I don't like the character of their F-twins (from 700 to 900 ccm). ...oh and I'll always try to avoid chinese products (therefore no CFmoto) Being 64 now and quite tall (195 cm) I've been on the same way you described (coming from 380 kg big bike downgraded to 280 kg). I really love the HIM 411 despite it's low power. I would have loved BMW to come again with a 650 GS based on the Rotax-single (now used on the new BSA Gold star - so emission rules don't seem to make problems). Having this in my street bike BMW F650 cs with 50 HP, running 170 km/h consumption of 4.0 l/100 km, at highway-speed of 140-160 (here in Germany) it takes 5.0. @skitchonwheels You'll prefer the f650 GS. With EFI from 2002 on. The cs is for street only (Belt drive, the GS has chain) - but for passenger the cs is better .
Same with the KTM 390. It’s a 17” not an 18”. The 5” TFT, which is such a “big improvement” this year has been on them for at least the last four years. Some may think that the 21” front wheel will be a huge improvement. Personally, I can’t tell the difference when riding on a 21” or 19” front tire offroad. If you measure the outside diameters of a 19” and a 21” front tire on the KTM 390 adventure, there won’t be 1 inch difference due to the larger cross section of the 19” tire.

I just don't get it. The whole look and basic setup of the BMW 450 screams off road bias...yet they fit a 19" front wheel 😖
RIGHT????? 🙄
I’ve had a look at it and the engine is awfully exposed ! The skid plate looks to be bolted to the sump 😮
Lightweight?! Compared to what? All of these bikes are two-wheeled tanks. Even the 690 enduro, which I own, is lighter and a lot more powerful but is still way too heavy for anything challenging offroad.
Get past the Chinese thing and the CFMoto is the only choice
I have a 2023 CLX 700 , love it
Have you road any of the se motorcycles. She votED for TRUMP!! GREAT GIRL. WHY DIDNT YOU KNOW SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO VOTE IF SHE IS REGISTERED ?
