When we stayed in the Shepperton hotel, I was at that shop every day and looked for the old tram lines in station road. It's a shame that a lot of these bits of Blackpool have been left to go derelict. It's a shame to see.

Another top video mate I remember this road in the early 70’s my first visit to blackpool and it literally had dozens and dozens of various shops either side of the road blackpool council need to get a grip on things and regenerate not just the shore front and centre and tackle the whole resort having said that I visit every September for a long weekend and still love the place lots of sentimental memories keep up the posts mate always enjoy them

Really is a very stark contrast from the lovely big houses with their streets lined with trees on Lytham Road to the not so posh end of Lytham Road that I remember. Though always nice to see the prom and the tower it's interesting to see and explore all the streets in and around Blackpool.

Those railings look old, I'm surprised they didn't remove them during the war to make ammunition. Or maybe they're not that old, maybe the just look old. I saw lots of people the other week about 5.30 queueing outside of St Peters church, they looked a bit down and out so I don't know if they were running a soup kitchen from there.

Wonder if anyone remembers Ma Kelleys used to be FADS decorating centre back in the day? There also used to be a Lennons supermarket, then it turned into a Sommerfield or Gateway I think! Very sad to see that row of shops on the corner of Station Road. As a kid we had the Blue Danube on Station Road, now the owners have tarted the hotel up a bit, but as a kid used to walk every day to Thames school, and in the row of shops there was a barbers had many a haircut there and I'm sure there used to be a bakery in addition to the Cycle shop mentioned!

Great video Steve. You missed a major trick by walking past the old Auctioneer without mentioning it, or why that bus shelter is so notorious for beer monsters. It was Wetherspoon's first pub in Blackpool and couldn't have been in a worse place for selling cheap beer. Not surprisingly it was an abject failure as a Wetherspoons. Probably worth a whole future video of its own to tell the full story.

Wow! Interesting video!! We used to stay on Lytham Road in the early 80s near to Kirby Road and it REALLY WAS bustling, tidy and family friendly. Lots of shops and markets. There was a cafe on the corner called “Wards” and we stayed in a guest house called the Aldor (no.36). In the evening you could hear trams trundling back into the depot. The Bridge pub further up was a regular for my parents and grandparents. Little old school cafes busy early mornings serving froffy coffees to early morning risers. Lovely, lovely times…

Great magical history tour, especially the bit about the South station.
Have you done the walk up Yeadon Way and Seasider's Way on the former Central Railway track?
I wonder what areas the Central station served?
From Sheffield we went to the north station and had to change at Chorley.
You give an honest view of a once great seaside resort that, although money IS being spent, will require much more to get anywhere near its past glories.
Maybe society has changed too much?
