Excellent summary ! Starting my kayaking experience at the age of eight and was able to roll at 10. Being able to roll ( in any condition) will give you the confidence to go onto almost any water ... i learned to enjoy white water class V for may years ( now called extreme kayaking but in my days, just wild water) and learned to enjoy rough ( north sea ) seas with 9 Beaufort winds. Because no matter what happens out there, you know the kayak is a part of you and you control it. I am now 62 and enjoying being on the water at least 4 days a week, no matter the conditions. Learn to roll and you will enjoy kayaking until your last breath !
Great video. I suffer from times to times all of the above! But the majority is actually number one: wrong angle of the bladde. Worst case you can also let the paddle float and then use it as a buoy to finish the C roll
Canoe surfing is a great place to practice rolling on both sides and in different ways, in very confusing water - but relatively safe. Once that’s nailed, venture out in a sea kayak to feel the difference in behaviour. Just please be aware of surfers in the water and don’t paddle straight back out through the surfing area just because you can. Look for the rips or dead water where the surfers swim back out and follow suit. Also have a look at surfing etiquette, it’s there to stop conflict and collisions. That way there’s room for everyone to have fun.
Hi, I don't understand what exactly do you mean the angle shaft to kayak, could you give some more details? Also, the angle of blade must be parallel or a little up to face of water
Never learning to roll may be acceptable as long as you kayak within your ability level. That is, never paddle farther from shore than you can comfortably swim, stay in calm warm water, etc.
I’ve paddled with Gordon a few years back, around Kyle of Lochalsh. Great day and a very pleasant kayak trip.

Hi Gordon, I worked for Sweetwater in St. Pete when you coached at our symposium. You did a great job coaching! Thanks, Chuck
Wish I had seen this video when I was learning to roll haha! Legit points out everything that stopped me from doing it.

They were not kidding when they said this type of kayak was harder to flip back over

I've made an even bigger mistake.....not yet owning a kayak. (Not counting my 2 man inflatable)
How do I obtain Gordon Brown's full rolling clinic video?
I watched a dozen rolling videos, but none of them explain how not to fall out of the kayak when I'm upside down.
You don't paddle your way upright, it's just a movement.
My mistake is the I cant stop the roll so I go 360°.
Excelente!!
Bonnet great video
I got all these wrong... 😂
Uh Gordon you forgot to tell us how to do it properly
Yes, I'm surprised there is no how-to-do-it tutorial on this channel. Only this about common mistakes.
Too bad he couldn't roll the economy from sinking
I've never rolled a kayak. I prefer sitting in the fucking seat.
