Thanks for the three great videos on rolling a kayak. I'm hope to attend your introduction to sea kayaking courses next spring and am spending the winter improving my confidence in the water. Having joined my local canoeing club. These videos really helped and also demonstrated what a professional setup you have.
What great videos. I'm new to rolling and rubbish at it at the moment but these videos are really helpful. Thank you . Also looks like you and your team had a great time filming! :)
Great breakdown. I've been coaching rolling this way for years but you guys have the people, resources and technical know-how to capture it all on video. Well done on an excellent series.
Absolutely so helpful. Thank you three and camera crew. I love show you broke it down into digestible steps. Brilliant and most informative! I’m heading out to the nearest reservoir with my wife to try it out!
I never got the roll when I went with the YMCA some 40 years ago and ended up needing a sea rescue from the instructors in the sea in quite big surf, my reaction was exactly as you described, I let go of my paddle to put my arm out to save myself and went upside down with no paddle in my hands, I escaped the canoe ( I did know the drill for getting out with the splash deck on in a very tight canoe) .. Definitely needed to learn the roll before beling allowed out in those conditions. I might give it another try but I'll defo do it in a swimming pool with proper instruction this time.
awesome video. im new to rolling but would love to see the view from behind as looking straight on im trying to mirror the video. looking from behind you can see how its done and copy it.
For the skulling practice, it can be fruitful to do it standing in a pool with the water at armpit height to practice the feel of the power of the blade, without the worry of falling in.
When first learning to roll, getting the buoyancy past the nadir (vertical) point was a tricky learning point as the PFD limited the initial rotation, but like you say, once past that, it's a for free support (back to the drown to save thing). Deliberate practice getting past the nadir is useful there.
One of the things I teach - like at 02:52 - is pause, consciously push the paddle above the surface (to make sure it's really extended around the boat, on the surface, in perfect setup position) - and 'splash-splash' - splash the surface of the water with the paddle. Then watch the end of the paddle sweep and not dive...
Also it was a demonic spirit did that through her. Not only is it demonic, but it was actually the demon itself that did that. Imagine a big basty demon in her soul thats there to drag her to the pit. Where its still hot. Thats what sin and demons do. God deserves every part of us.
Excellent work. Best I have seen on the Eskimo roll.

Your vids are the best by far
Could i use this technique on a Waveski?
Great correction moves for specific situations

Return majestically back beneath the water!
Great tips.
