They can not immediately deport them.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council use recruitment agencies. One agency subcontracted the recruitment process out.
The Hospitals who have employed these nurses have to follow their policies and procedures and investigate. If there is any indication of misconduct, those Nurses will attend disciplinaries.
If the outcome of the disciplinary is dismissal then the results of that hearing then goes to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and it is they then who strike the nurses off the register. It is then the responsibility of the home office to deport them. That's the process.

@simonscott5104 Yes, I agree. There are 48 under investigation. But the NHS cannot withdraw them from the NMC register. The Nursing and Midwifery Council is an independent body from the NHS. More than likely, the NHS will have suspended them on full pay until investigations are completed and possible disciplinaries. They cannot employ a lawyer at this stage but are entitled to union representation if they are in a union. Providing that the NHS and NMC have used the correct procedures, then there no need for lawyers. The NMC use around 40 recruitment agencies worldwide and the one who subcontracted the work out have had their contract revoked and rightly so.

Nursing used to be 2 years vocational with day release, now its a three year degree program with £60k debt before even starting work. That's one of the main issues in my opinion.

    • @jjrider6758
      @jjrider6758 8 месяцев назад

Agreed.. My wife (now retired) began her 3 year RGN training in the mid 1980s, she says that the Nurses the old programmes (SRN and RGN) turned out were expected to be much more competent and disciplined, their training was both practical and theoretical with them working four or five FULL shifts EVERY week with one day at the School of Nursing which ran their course (this was usually lecture based) with coursework completed in their own time. Of course for this training she was PAID (with accommodation fees being deducted) Two years after qualifying as an RGN she took a further 18 month extended specialism course to qualify as a Midwife.. But it's not only the debt issue that is the problem the University courses, it's the professional quality of the graduates..
The differences are that, after basic training period to ensure they wouldn't be a burden to Ward staff, ALL of the old-style RGN instruction was closely supervised 'on-the-job' training, whereas the new university courses are much more focussed on theorical rather than actual 'hands-on' training and subsequently the students routinely struggle with even basic practical skills when on their ward-based modules (despite barely having time to perform her own duties, on several occasions my wife actually had to instruct these students on basic Nursing tasks, such as as how to make a bed correctly or wash a patient properly because they had only ever received theoretical training..
She also said that misplaced snobbery was evident with students objecting to performing menial tasks (such as the aforementioned bed-making and patient washing..) because they'd been informed by Tutors/Lecturers that menial tasks 'were not their job' and 'should be left for Nursing Assistants' (who were often already snowed under..)
In short she often (but not always) perceived the University students to be a burden on the ward staff with far too little practical ability or experience.. The Nurses that the University Degree Courses turned out just weren't as professionally competent (or as professional in general..) as those qualified under the old School of Nursing schemes. Ironically, after over 20 years as a Ward Sister she was told she now had to have University degree to permit her to continue in her post and she had to complete a 'Conversion Course' at University on (paid) day release !.

I asked one of the African nurses why my wife has had no pain relief, she started shouting that I was talking down to her and not to tell her how do her job. I was shocked. I reported get to the nurse in charge, who was white. She said it was the third complaint that day about the same nurse, and she had concerns herself regarding her abilities.

We live in sheltered accommodation and recently got new manager, from India, whose English is severely lacking. His wife filled in the application and translates all his paperwork. We're all over 70 and laughed when we got our last newsletter, which included a children's story meant for 4 year old children.
Finally got appointment doctor recently. A Bangladeshi, who tenderly held me left foot for 10 minutes even though I was complaining of chest pains. 😂 Gawd help us all

As a retired registered nurse you definitely do not need a degree. However you do need more than just passion and you’ve always had to have a half a brain. This story completely undermines the training that nurses undergo. To enter my training I needed more academic qualifications than you do currently to get into uni. I did 4 years of very vigorous practical and academic training to get my qualification. Nursing is all about competence and without the training it’s impossible to competent. You’re a liability without it because you don’t know what you don’t know! I am both shocked and appalled at this story. And patients WILL notice when a nurse doesn’t know what they are doing.
I now live in Australia and I was made to write home to get a breakdown of exactly what I had completed both academically and practically before they would register me. That is how it should be. You are dealing with life and death for Gods sake.!
    Heads should roll!

Get rid of the degree, bring the students back to the wards, for which they are paid, with blocks of study in College of Nursing. Have them mentored by nurses who trained before the baby was thrown out with the bath water in the 1980's. They wont belong in sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Fully. A major reason why I want to leave the UK as soon as I'm a qualified nurse is the £40k of debt I'll be stuck with. It'll take absolutely forever to pay it off on the £28k salary the NHS offer - meanwhile in California I could be making over $120k and pay it off in my first year of working.
Right now I'm spending so many years barely surviving being a nursing student that I'm financially exhausted. I want to be able to enjoy my life again.
