I heard Jimmy Thackery in his Nighthawks days at the Bottom Line in Greenwich Village. He did his classic strut where he walked out through the audience while blasting away on his guitar, went out one door onto the street, walked around to another door, came back in, and strutted back on stage. I heard he did this at many theaters, including Toad's in New Haven. No matter if it was a shtick, it was awesome! The man is a great guitarist who deserves a lot more recognition than he ever got. The Nighthawks were the best bar band I ever heard, and the Drivers were awesome too. Go American roots music!
... thanks for checking out the video that i filmed of Thackery. I have heard of Thackery doing this decades ago. I also heard one time that George Thorogood was playing across the street from the Nighthawks, and that George and Jimmy met in the middle of hte street and swapped guitar plugs to play in each others respective bands. What a hoot!!
Saw him play a few times from late 70's early 80's in Atlanta, til the last time, about 10 years ago in Seattle. Fueled by desire, talent, coke, booze and ego early on, he was sober the last couple times i saw him. Thought it was the best I ever saw him play. About 2013, with this lineup. He's a true road warrior, and has paid his dues. I appreciate getting to listen to him play..
Jimmy is 6 months my senior -born 350 miles dead east of me , BUT i went to Florida as a baby in the 50's, love listening to him - my style of playing - 55 years years of playing the Blues and I never get sick of it.
I'm the same age as Jimmy Thackery, I am retired from Flying living in north FL. I first met him on November 6, 1996. We , (the Captain and 2 first officers of which I was one) flew him to Amsterdam on his European tour. I had never heard of him, but the other First Officer had contact with him. That First Officer, who is unfortunately no longer with us, highly encouraged us to go out that night in Amsterdam to see him play. We did..... it was amazing. I was damn near in tears at how good he was and is. It's a definite positive memory in my log book. Cheers to you too.
A highly overlooked player. Had the pleasure of seeing him live a few times. This is my favorite tune of his. The first time I heard him play it, I thought he was planning to play BREATHE by Pink Floyd. His tone and whammy work are stellar.
I AGREE 100% i filmed this video, and like most of my videos, certainly don't have near the amount of views that i would expect. Thank you for your comment.
I was just introduced to Thackeray and the Drivers, this weekend, by my brother in law, in his garage, with six Bose speakers all around the garage. This band is amazing! Reminds me of Robin Thrower, and a little David Gilmore as well! Excellent 👍
I too, think that this is one of the best songs out there and I listen to it again and again and enjoy and appreciate it more each time. I do not have favorites of anything, this is so limiting. So my favorite song ,is the one I am listening at that very moment, and at this moment this is my favorite song.
Now,, peoples, this is the stuff that I love ,from the first 56 seconds...im smiling. Im of fan of all those shredders like Satriani, Vai, Yngwie, Lynch..but I always come back to Jimmy..cause he moves my SOUL.
One of my favorite pieces by Jimmy, but then, everything he does can be a favorite. One of the most fun things about him is he rarely does the same song the same.
... let's take a deep breath ... close your eyes ... open your hearts for some 'holy grail' of electric guitar music ... tremendous, soul-touching, unique, with a shiver from outside / not from this world ... JIMMY THACKERY, I lift my hat with respect! ... a Standing Ovation to you & band!
thanks for watching my video. I agree 100%. I have been attending all of Thackery's Detroit shows since 1993. My favorite live guitar blues artist. Under appreciated, but in the blues guitar world he is a legend.
love the Bill WIthers "Usin' Me" homage in the middle, but the tempo was just a bit too adagio for me. I am just grateful such virtuoso blues still exists. Bless your soul, Jimmy Thackery. May you find the fountain of youth.
Wonder what kind of Leslie simulator he uses? Notice he's not pimping for some guitar company that hasn't made a good guitar since 1965. Pre-cbs. JT is the only one living that can make you feel like Roy Buchanan did. His tone is impeccable.
I know this man personally. We are legally related, and I consider him a good friend, although we do not keep contact. I have seen him perform over twenty times. I have only ever seen SRV in videos. We can only speculate how amazing a showdown between the two would be, unfortunately.
Were you with him back in 2001? He did a gig in my hometown. Me and a buddy of mine talked to him after the show. Very nice guy! Signed my ticket for me and talked about a guitar he had stolen recently.
Hey Scott (this is my main channel) I havent talked to Jimmy since I saw him at Paul Wingos Funeral in Maryland 2016. Wingo was a great jazz musician himself. I roadied for him when he was in The Assassins 1990-91 .I sincerely hope it was not this strat that was stolen . I heard he lives in North Carolina now.Hope life is good!
No doubt about it, you can't describe Jimmy Thackery as anything other than outstandingly great. But the drivers George Sheppard and Mark Bumgarner are in no way inferior to him.Unfortunately, the bass part in the recording is much too quiet.
@@MyronTheHen It's actually a reply to a lot of comments I see on YT. Criticizing my heroes that are not 20 years old and skinny anymore but outplay anyone is shoe leather. Jimmy Thackery is in the category of best of the best. Who do you know living today that has his skills? And I'm an old white dude that witnessed great guitarists since the 60's. No put down intended for his age or race. Only awe and respect.
I'm reluctant to admit that he is, indeed, a senior citizen, because I have known him since well before he became one. He's married to my cousin. His live performance is truly a spectacle that I was lucky enough to experience many times.

Why does this not have 10 billion hits?
I AGREE 100% i filmed this video, and like most of my videos, certainly don't have near the amount of views that i would expect. Thank you for your comment.
I need to go to AA I'm getting addicted to this.
... thanks for watching and getting the view count up ... LOL ... I'm glad you're enjoying it. I knew when i was filming i had something special.
I was just introduced to Thackeray and the Drivers, this weekend, by my brother in law, in his garage, with six Bose speakers all around the garage. This band is amazing! Reminds me of Robin Thrower, and a little David Gilmore as well! Excellent 👍
That's what I said!!
Jimmy is the hardest working blues performer I know. Tommy castro is right up there too. Thanks
Holy shit !!!! I never heard of this guy until today. He is brilliant.

I saw Jimmy Thackery in the early 1990's! I did remember his name for sure! This is very very nice! This should have way more views!

Love you Jimmy, miss the days of the Nighthawks !
Now,, peoples, this is the stuff that I love ,from the first 56 seconds...im smiling. Im of fan of all those shredders like Satriani, Vai, Yngwie, Lynch..but I always come back to Jimmy..cause he moves my SOUL.

MY FAVORITE PLAYER
One of my favorite pieces by Jimmy, but then, everything he does can be a favorite. One of the most fun things about him is he rarely does the same song the same.
Thank you for posting this. He was sonic the last time I saw him, and that was in the late seventies.
Heart and soul

Saw him in San Francisco around 1999. Amazing guitarist!
Never heard this guy before, brilliant!

You come save us in America, I helped fly him to Amsterdam for his European tour in 1996.
Just so damn good!
Paul Russell yes... Jimmy is the BEST !! I've known about him since 1992.

I love JT. Seen him live 6 times and always amazing, He should have forearms like Popeye
Could listen to Jimmy all day. Soooo tasty.
I love this song! Jimmy and the Drivers rock!
Why no one can't see that Mr. Jimmy is true legend on the guitar Is beyond me. TELL Jeff bEck To give him a call At
thanks for watching my video. I agree 100%. I have been attending all of Thackery's Detroit shows since 1993. My favorite live guitar blues artist. Under appreciated, but in the blues guitar world he is a legend.
Tried to get him to play for my wedding up in Canada, things just didn't work out, unfortunately.
Wow!
Esto se lamma excelencia...

Nice......
love the Bill WIthers "Usin' Me" homage in the middle, but the tempo was just a bit too adagio for me. I am just grateful such virtuoso blues still exists. Bless your soul, Jimmy Thackery. May you find the fountain of youth.
Well said.
My dear friend that rocks ... Jimbo! dealit#W
So wish he would play the West coast more!
agree!..this is amazing!..damn fine!
Incredible. Shout out to SRV at the end there?
This sounds a bit like a Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky with Thackery's super talent guitar solo hammering the blues away.
10:00 ... hand the man a cup of tea!
❤😎
Is that Pink Floyd in there
Without a doubt the best since Mr Roy buchànanl
He’s does nothing but does everything
Please let me if You have a CD or à DVD from that concert ...i am looking forward to it ?
Thanks and Best regards from Brittany

Do ya think he practiced this a few times? LOL Amazing!
Nawwwww
Question: Chops as good as SRV?
I know this man personally. We are legally related, and I consider him a good friend, although we do not keep contact. I have seen him perform over twenty times. I have only ever seen SRV in videos. We can only speculate how amazing a showdown between the two would be, unfortunately.
I used to roadie for Jimmy, that guitar is bad as hell and he makes it so.
Were you with him back in 2001? He did a gig in my hometown. Me and a buddy of mine talked to him after the show. Very nice guy! Signed my ticket for me and talked about a guitar he had stolen recently.
Mixed him a couple of times @ The Grand Emporium in Kansas City Mo. Once at a outdoor venue. The bounce off the buildings were incredible.

DVincentW he lives on the island of Belize......
Pink Floyd?
can't do that on a LP. Vintage Strat, Floyd Rose. Original Joe Barden PUPS. Category 5 amps/best amps since Dumble.
Excellent duo. Bass player MIA. Why?
Baadassery

Shit I always thought he was black. So cool.
To many effects . Switch them off and nothing will left !
who said senior citizens can't shell the corn. (edited by the old white dude who lives in Russia part time).
Easy there, tiger.
