This has been the best day of my life... words can't accurately describe it, so so happy for the players and Fages and all of us lions fans... the joy is just so unbelievable. So incredibly proud of my team, and forever proud to be a Lions supporter.
Lachie Neale has finally been vindicated. When he joined the club back in 2019 he said he was doing so because he wanted to be at a club that would win a premiership and everyone laughed at him telling him he was absolutely mental.
Worth the solo trip down I tell ya! Can’t wait to soak up this feeling for the rest of the weekend, only a few are lucky to experience it and I’m very greatful 💪🏻
Brisbane was just incredible in this game and was a level above the Swans. I could not believe how well they played in that 2nd quarter. Well deserved flag and so deserving for Fages, Zorko, Lester, etc. Cannot wait for the trade period.
If you take all the Grand Finals played in the 21st century (24 in total) Brisbane has now won four and appeared in six. That's 16.67% percent wins and 25% appearances. That's not too shabby in a league of eighteen teams - unless my math is wrong. :)
Interesting you talk about recent Grand Final blowouts. I was listening to an interview with Eddie Jones, ex Australia, England and Japan Rugby coach. He was talking about the same phenomenon in big Rugby and Soccer games. He puts it down to a change in the mentality of modern players compared to past generations. Hes convinced that modern players lack a certain reaolve compared to past players. That they respond poorly to adversity. That they react adversely to accountability and to being coached and captained harshly, and that this makes it nore difficult for the younger generations of players to arrest the oppositions momentum and turn it back to their favour. He said, over his 30 year career, that hes had to completely change the way he motivates players. Just an interesting thought
As a doggies fan, still have a soft spot for Dunkley. Loved him when he was with us, great player, happy he is finding more success in his career. Also on that comparison with 2016 flag, back then, the comp was less even whereas now, its not so far-fetched anymore for a team to storm through to a premiership from outside the top 4. Momentum is key though and lions had that through the back half of the season.
As a Lions supporter, very proud and emotional right now. I truly wish it had been a close game though, no team deserves to be smashed in a Grand Final. The Swans were fantastic all season and were a worthy opponent .

Funny you know, coming from 18 Mil in debt to now 4 mil, apparently the club are keeping that 4 mil as a net debt. From struggling to get over 20k members to now just shy of 64k members. In 2016 in totality we had just over 4 mil TV viewers over that year, in 2024 we had over 23 Mil which for sponsors is Gold. I don't forget those years but boy it makes days like Saturday all the more worth it, especially being at the Game. A day I'll never forget, I can't wait for the Movie, because this year will make it a Blockbuster! LFG Brisbane Lions, 4th AFL Premiership, 12th with the inclusion of the VFL Premierships.
Congratulations to Brisbane - a wonderful win after the disappointment of last year. Sydney to me are a bit of an enigma. Yesterday makes it five Grand Final loses out of their last six attempts. Reminds me a little of the Colliwobbles era. I am of the opinion that the SCG is a disadvantage to them in some ways. Their game has been developed on quick-fire scoring on their undersized ground - something they do superbly, but it doesn't seem to work on full sized grounds. They might do better shifting their home ground to Stadium Australia.
As a Port supporter living in Brisbane, I was happy to see Sydney get smashed. They had a fairly easy preliminary final win against a team that looked flat. Congratulations to Brisbane on a stunning win in the grand final. 🏆
I think this Fitzroy Lions relocation /merger is one of the greatest stories in the AFL. 4 flags in less than 30 years. 6 grand-final appearances in less than 30 years. Large Fan bases in both Brisbane and Melbourne. Showed there force against Geelong a week ago at the G. I think the likes of North Melbourne and Melbourne football clubs would be scratching their head thinking what could have been.
I knew Brisbane was going to bring it today, they wanted it more and Sydney got complacent thinking they were top team all year. They didn’t come ready to bring their best game. So happy for Lions!
I’m a Saints supporter living in Brisbane. I was really happy to see Fages and the team come away with a win. As disappointing as it is for the Swans, it’s no mean feat to win the home & way season and make the GF. Of course it’s the GF outcome that gets remembered in history.
Chris fagan deserves alot if credit and will no doubt be an inspirational story forever as a coach who's done so much and not even played the game at it's highest level. And complete and resounding win for the lions. Very well deserved. Swans just turned themselves insude out with their errors and had nothing to offer to the game. There was nothing to speak of in them wanting to or fighting for a win
The 23 Home and Away games, give teams the chance to make the finals... The 3 Finals, give the competing teams the chance to make the Grand final and the chance to win the premiership... what clubs do with that chance, in that one game, is up to them. 26 games to make the Grand Final - A great achievement... just one game to win it all... I think that is why preliminary finals are often better, more exciting games than the Grand Final, because it is so hard to make it, and to have that chance.
Sydney was out played second quarter, fagan the master , midfield of the lions and backline as well as forwards , they were kicking goals everywhere, Sydney stunned, second quarter, it was over in 3rd quarter, Sydney had no answer, their stars players kick only 5 goals between them, the lions far more superior, all their players performed well, so good to watch the lions play in finals , well deserved premier
Hands up, my whole family has been on board since the AFL killed off our beloved Fitzroy but we found renewed joy through the Brisbane Lions, there are many just like us
I am gutted. It’s ok to lose, brissy’s list is more balanced tbh but swans weren’t even competitive. Once Brisbane got a hold of them in Q2 they just panicked and couldn’t play with any poise. Barely touched it. I’m not sure the list is good enough either. Fwd line is sub-par and there’s not enough hard nosed mids to do the dirty work when the chips are down. Hate to say it about my club but lots of downhill skiers, especially the senior guys. Thanks for the video and your work, it’s cool that you’ve kept this channel going over the years
I wonder what this does to the Swans in psychological terms next year. It is often tough for a team the year after a big GF loss. I was hoping for a better game, Brisbane just had an extra gear and were great at controlling tempo, didn't give the Swans a chance to get back in. Will Ashcroft played like a 200 gamer deserved the Norm Smith, I may (definitely) have been biased, I got him at 23-1 that paid for a few failed bets and left a bit of profit.
I know coaching a team to a 5th Grand Final in 13 seasons is odd to make such a call, but I think John Longmire needs to step aside and hand the position over to Dean Cox effective immediately. Think about Malthouse, Sheedy, Hardwick and Blight as coaches and Longmire is most similar to Blight 1989-1994. But regardless they're all highly successful coaches and had to say it's time to go.
Since the 2005 gf Sydney have won 2 from the 7 gfs made. I did say to myself after they came back against gws that Brisbane deserve to win the premiership.
AFL.com.au has them up pretty soon after the game mate! They always delay uploading to RUclips, presumably because they make more ad revenue on their site
Sorry I wasn't able to make the stream. Some of my Aussie friends here in Thailand had a watch party. Our thoughts were that we wish Sydney had put up a better fight. The second half was fairly boring...other than Brisbane's dominance. Hats off to Brissie, but what a loss by the Swans. Has to be quite a hit to them. I'm not sure how they'll be able to come back from it next year.
The big average margin in grand finals shouldn’t be that much of a surprise, if a team gets 6-7 goals up by 3/4 time, there’s no real incentive for the losing team to fight it out till the end.
I think the lack of response after half time when there was the tiny glimmer of hope - as well as pride - on the line was a bit of a surprise. But you're right GFs tend to go that way
Happy for Brisbane but that was so boring as a neutral. Genuinely sick of uncompetitive grand finals. It doesnt have to be a thriller like last year or 2018 every year, but somewhere in the 2-4 goal range would be nice. 10 goal grand final loss is deplorable.
Congratulations on your win. I am a Geelong supporter who was supporting the Lions today. Always had a soft spot for Fitzroy. Played with great spirit and belief in the finals.
As a neutral, it was a really disappointing spectacle and I was bored. Congrats to the lions and bad luck swans, no doubt you’ll be back up there next year

Same as Geelong, though the lions aren’t given as much praise for their success this century

It's a long way for Chris Fagan from where he started on the gravel oval at Queenstown.
Maybe he would consider coming to Tassie...
Zorko the most deserving current player to win a premiership
By far his best season this year at 35. The way he's going getting better with age he'll win a Brownlow and Norm Smith at 40
When Chris F asked him to be part of raising the cup, that was the best moment of the day for me.
Your confidence of Brisbane winning was well founded!
Great compassionate breakdown. Also a neutral with a soft spot for the mighty Lions. Cheers!
