It's not that we don't love Texas, we love all of the states. What we don't love is people thinking that Texas is somehow "the best of the USA". Texas has a unique culture and a lot of good things about it, but there are many other places that have unique cultures as well. What gets tiring is "Texas, Texas, Texas" when there are many other places just as good.

There are about 250,000 to 400,000 people who watch the fireworks from different parts of the city every year. And about 100,000 will watch some part of the concert before the fireworks. In 2 years the US will be 250 years old and the party will be even bigger.

maybe a mile from me. When my children were younger we use to go and park nearby and watched
them. One time I was flying from California to North Caroline on the night of July 4, and as we passed

It's not so much that people don't like Texas (I mean yes, there is plenty of reason not to like the state, but that's most often about the politics, the weather, and/or the power grid, not about the beauty and the attractions of the state that would appeal to someone from outside the USA.) It's more that there are some incredible sights and attractions in all 50 states. Even the "flyover" states have national and/or state parks, amusement parks, unique food, and other attractions that are worth checking out. I think people may see you as being so focused on Texas that you don't really see all the beauty and uniqueness across the country.

Something that gets missed is that many military bases will also have their own fireworks show with events that happen beforehand. I live south of Seattle, there are a number of cities that have large fireworks displays but so does Joint Base Lewis-McChord. What makes the firework show on a military base interesting is that they will do a 50 cannon salute. 50 shots of a howitzer, 1 for each state. If you want to hear a big BOOM that's where you'll hear it.

For the past 36 years, I've lived in a small Illinois city next to the Mississippi River. Our fireworks this year got postponed until Labor Day, in September. They shoot the fireworks off of barges in the river. But, right now, the river is flooded. So, a lot of the area that people gather to watch the fireworks is under water. I live in a tall building and have a great view of the river and the fireworks. But this year it will be Labor Day fireworks instead of Independence Day fireworks. By the way, ignore people who say that you shouldn't love some particular state or part of the USA. That kind of animosity is about politics. I've lived in states that are considered liberal, and I've lived in states that are considered conservative. Almost all the people everywhere are great folks. And of course, each state has it's own style of natural beauty to enjoy.

The water reflexs the sparkles from the fireworks so you're seeing them from up above and down below. There are people out in the water on their boats with American flags, people on the beach, and people in the water swimming and watching the show. It's a wonderful experience. Well, I live North of Tampa, Florida, out in the country near a town named Land O Lakes (or LOL). I LOVE celebrating the 4th of July with my Portuguese friend! I was supposed to be with my family (next door) but I broke out in a rash, and my daughter has a 6 month old baby, who spent 19 days in a coma 2 weeks after he was born because he caught a cold - so I wasn't going to go over there and expose everyone to.who knows what this is! She just went through 2 weeks of all 6 of her kids getting sick one after the other! They set off fireworks in between our two houses, and my son was there with his son, too. So I stood on my porch and watched. Then I came in here and joined you! Thank you for celebrating our Independence with us! I grew up 85 miles SouthWest of Chicago - so I always saw some of their fireworks on the news every year!
Normally, at least in the places I've lived, we only celebrate on the 4th - unless the 4th is on a Friday or Monday. Then some people party all weekend.
On the 4th, some cities that are located on a river will have a boat parade, where people decorate their boats with lights and there are fireworks.
When I lived in Houston, theirs was great, too. (Yes, I lived in Texas for 6 years. Texas IS different.)
I think you'd like Florida, better! My 2 oldest were born in Houston, but they were raised here in Florida. My 3rd child was born here. Thank you for sharing the Fourth of July with us! I enjoyed your trip around our Country, and can't wait until you get to come visit, my dear Portuguese friend! Sending lots of love!❤❤❤

No matter where you are in the country, there are at the very least fireworks, cookouts and patriotic decorations. When I was a kid in Monterey, California, we would go to the rooftop of my dad's office building. As a young adult in Minnesota, we would drive to a family member's place in Wisconsin for a weekend reunion and set off our own fireworks. (Not allowed in all states) Now I live in Washington about 45 minutes from Seattle. Usually we go to the San Juan Island, Friday Harbor and dock the boat for a few days. They set off the fireworks from a barge in the water. This year we are fostering a new dog, so we stayed home and did a grill out. We watched fireworks going off all around us.

From DC. It's great every year - even watching on TV at home.! Smaller, local towns are fun, and, some communities go all out. Sometimes of my neighbors, too, it's fun watching theirs. Most memorable 4th, on the National Mall in 1976- the Bi-centennial Celebration in DC. Over 2 million people there (about 3 times number of District residents.)

I live in Washington on its southern border with Oregon. My neighborhood was blazing with fireworks last night and it sounded like a war zone. The smoke in the air was so thick. The main celebration was at the Lake in town but everyone sets them off at home too. It’s crazy times 😂🎉 (my dogs and cats were NOT amused so I spent the whole day soundproofing my house and playing movies real loud to drown out the explosions for them). It’s real hard on the animals and war veterans. 🇺🇸✌🏽🎆
I grew up in San Diego California. My father was career Navy (served 22 years), stationed at Miramar Naval Base. Grew up as a military family 🇺🇸

Andre, what makes Seattle (in addition to Mt. Rainier (rain-EAR) off in the distance is that it's located on a beautiful body of water called Puget (PEW--jet) Sound.
The comment about booking 3 years in advance for San Diego's celebration doesn't have to do with expense, but with popularity of the celebration. If you have twice as many wanting to come as there are rooms in the area, you're going to pay more.
There's nothing wrong with taking a liking to a specific city, whether here or in Portugal. Personally, I have good memories of things I've done, places I've seen in TX. Then, there's the fact that, unlike some other states, it doesn't seem that the major cities have tens of thousands of homeless camping on the cities' streets, unlike some states.
Re. the 2 DC performers, I'm sure there's a good article about each on Wikipedia--in Portuguese.
The story of the Statue of Liberty is a bit different now than 100+ years ago, since back then nearly every immigrant entered via NYC, arriving by steamship, and one of the first things they saw was Lady Liberty.

St Louis has a multi day celebration with air shows, parachute drops and live concerts at the Gateway Arch and along the waterfront of the Mississippi River. Barges on the river are where the fireworks are launched so when they explode the sound echos off the tall buildings as a double boom.

One year, I set up my folding chair next to the roped off fireworks on our beach. Never in my life have I experienced heart-thumping, body-rattling, head vibrations with the beautiful displays in the sky above me. A once in a lifetime experience. I can never ever forget that event.
There is also a show of fireworks out in the midwest where companies who manufacture fireworks put on a display for two days to potential buyers. You can lay on a grassy spot and watch all the new fireworks from each company. What a spectacular show.
That's why America has the best fireworks because of the competition involved to influence the purchasers for the Fourth.
    Happy Birthday, America!

Nothing wrong with Texas. Not my preferred geography or weather but I lived there for a couple of years in the late 1990s and have nothing negative to say about my experience there. Dallas is a nice city, it's huge, and traffic will drive you crazy, but if Texas is your jam then you're in good company. A lot of people are flocking from other places to places like Texas, Florida and my little mountainous NW state. You're definitely a guy who would enjoy a lot of different places in the US so don't stress about missing out on your first trip. I've been to 42 states in my 50 years, given 7 of them were in Brazil, but it's completely unrealistic to see every cool thing in the US in a lifetime let alone a trip. I've spent a ton of collective time on different trips that add up to about 3 years in Europe and I've barely scratched the surface there. Just know you'll be welcome coming here wherever you decide to go.

Boston does have cannons, too! When the Boston Pops play the 1812 Overture (by Tchaikovsky) they fire cannons on the bank of the Charles River. I watch the concert on TV every year. My favorite parts are when they play the armed services anthems and members/veterans of each service stand up in the audience when theirs plays, the patriotic sing-along to a medley of patriotic songs, the 1812 Overture, and the Stars and Stripes Forever that they play as the finale. And then the fireworks start, with all genres of recorded music accompanying them. Most towns have their own fireworks (I can see ours from my patio), and often an entire day of activities for the whole family.

Here in America we celebrate with family, friends and strangers. Usually this involves cooking out burgers and hotdogs wearing a red, white and blue outfit. Many towns and cities hold a parade during the day and watch the fireworks at night. One year my sister and I and her family packed a picnic and sat on the grass at the Symphony Clam Shell stage , listened to the Boston Pop s (symphony orchestra) Near the end of church very, the fireworks go off over the river while the orchestra plays. Down here in Fort Lauderdale Florida, you can take your boat down the river to the inter coastal waterway where the fireworks are shot off. Great fun. Please visit us anytime, but would love to spend the 4th with you.

Happy Fourth of July, Andre! I used to live in DC and the celebrations there were amazing! I know you're getting a lot of suggestions about what time of year you should travel to America, but I say that you should schedule all your trips to America so that they coincide with the Fourth of July. You should plan it for a different city every single time! I think you would enjoy the Fourth of July a lot!
Also, please don't listen to the people that are telling you you shouldn't like Texas as much as you do. I know Texas has some disagreeable politics and laws (I see this as a liberal - not a conservative), but it also has beautiful places like Galveston, fun cities like Austin, and a foundation of independence. Not only that, but the barbecue there is amazing. You should like what you want to like. You might change your mind about things when you finally get to America and find that you like certain places more and certain places less. But you're going to figure it all out.

Being a history nerd I usually like to celebrate a lot of the military history from July 1st to July 3rd in the run up to the 4th of July. Basically the Battle of Gettysburg which was the pivotal moment took place from July 1st to July 3rd and for me July 1st through July 4th is sort of a series of days where I look at a lot of the military campaigns the US military fought in and all the successes we've had especially battles like Gettysburg.

I've had the benefit of living in 3 of the cities: Seattle, Philly, & DC. As a kid, and when I was a young mom, I often went down to the national Mall to watch the fireworks, but it was public transportation afterward (no one takes a car down there) was insane and it stopped being worth it. I never saw the Seattle fireworks, but saw them in Philly several times. Since then, I've lived in smaller Midwest towns and have enjoyed great hometown parades and fireworks shows in them. It's also nicer when the crowd is a good size, but not so big you can't move or you don't feel comfortable bringing children.

They couldn't handle the sights and sounds so didn't attend during that time. Been in southern California for years. Many huge displays at various locations but now just deal with the show in a nearby marina. So many people set off illegal fireworks on nearby streets it's become annoying and scary, at times. There are videos, online, from helicopters flying over Los Angeles showing a literal sea of fireworks for miles over the city. Crazy.

Happy 4th of July from San Diego California where we are home to both the Navy and the Marines. Pay close attention this may one day save your life: do not call a marine or the Marines part of the Navy . Know how not ever not at all or you will probably feel the full Brunt of a US Marines hand on your face. The statue they showed for San Diego is the kissing statue which is from The New York Times picture on VJ Day August 14th 1945 in times square. It is 25 ft high and weighs 6,000 lb. Right next to it you saw a little bit of the USS Midway which is a decommissioned aircraft carrier which now serves as a museum. When you go on they have all types of planes blow in the hangar and you can take either a guided tour or walk about the whole aircraft carrier on your own. I think the deck is a small dining area or may even be a restaurant at night. They have played in the NBA game once on the deck. It could have been a college basketball but I'm pretty sure it was the nba. Most definitely take the time to go visit the museum and if you don't make it to San Diego and you make it to New York visit the Intrepid which is the same thing I'm sure there are others I just don't know where. What they didn't mention about San Diego's is there are about 9 barge starting from very close to the Mexican-American border going all the way up the coast line towards Point Loma and they're about nine different firework barges and at 9:00 p.m. they all start their show it's the same show synchronized to music that particular radio station or stations play the set program. So for that you want to be high it is something to see. I love firework shows and my favorite was New York's Macy 4th of July extravaganza. There are about three or four barges in the East River it's also set to music and I was close enough to the water that I could see all of them and when they burst it was if they were falling on top of my head. The best was in San Diego but not for the reason you may think. One year my boyfriend drove one of the tugboats that took out one of the firework barges and the tugboat has to stay there until the show is over so that they can bring the barge back in. So I sat on top of The Boathouse on the tugboat and watched the all the fireworks come up out of their canisters. That first one rearranges all of your internal organs. I cannot take my eyes off of watching these come out. I don't think I saw even one firework in the sky. There are some videos on RUclips about how they put those shows together syncing up the music and planning the whole thing. There's also a few videos on how fireworks are made.

The 4th of July is probably my second favorite holiday after Christmas! Most have the day off, it's one week from the longest day of the year and weather is usually hot. Cities have huge, professional fireworks shows downtown. Small towns have charming community parades, carnivals, etc. Suburbanites picnic, mingle with their neighbors in the street and light off fireworks.
People who don't normally fly flags choose to do so and people dress in red, white, and blue. Depending on your vibe, people picnic, BBQ, swim, watch patriotic movies, boat, watch parades, all topped off with fireworks! It's the perfect summer holiday. (Although people are increasingly aware that fireworks aren't great for the environment and cause anxiety for both humans and animals. Some places are shifting to drone shows.)

I live is a small town in Oklahoma (pop. less than 1,300), with rather lax fireworks laws. It's not organized, but it is spectacular. Most of the neighbors fire them from their patios. They spend several thousand dollars each, and most are the same types of fireworks as the big shows use. You should see just a neighborhood celebrating before you see one of the big shows. In my neighborhood the fireworks go off for about 4 hours, but they are not a cohesive "show".
