Did you know that Voyager did an episode with pretty much the exact same plot, just a few months after Beneath the Surface? Called Workfore. Same thing...crew is kidnapped and mind wiped. Receive regular "injections" to maintain the wipe. Tuvok reacts badly to it and gets his memory back and frees the others. Very similar to Teal'c in this episode.
@@GateWorldDotNet The odd thing is is they had to have been in production at the same time, because the Voyager episode came out too close to this one to have directly copied it. I have heard (but not verified) that both episodes were influenced by Metropolis. So in this case, it just so happened that SG-1 and Voyager happened to both pull inspiration from the same source rather than one directly copying the other.
@@StormsparkPegasus Yeah, I remember we were poking some fun at Voyager for copying SG-1 back when these first aired, but (for my part at least) it was tongue-in-cheek ... because they obviously had to be in production at the same time.
@@StormsparkPegasus With both shows doing 20+ episodes per year for several years, mostly episodic and in roughly the same genre, it shouldn't be that odd that it could happen at least once.
I think the removal of the kiss is a double-edged sword for the moment, given the fact that it might not have had an effect on Sam & Jack getting together (especially earlier episodes hinting at a connection) and it also could have been interesting to see if this broke the "memory wipe." The idea of having both a Barry Manilow and Bueller joke sound like they could have done well, although given how cyclical musical tastes seem to be it's likely that the Barry Manilow reference could have backfired (now with later audiences), but it's still a nice touch to get the behind-the-scenes.
It's a shame the powers to be can't get their act together and figure a way to continue on. Combine all 3 shows, write it, find the cash, make it legal, then make it happen. You'll make tons of profit and have a new generation of fans plus all the old fans that aren't dead yet, hopefully.

Universe was Voyager. And Voyager was BSG. All great shows.
One of those rare instances where Stargate actually did it first!

I don't get the reference.
What was the name even? Bueller?
Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- a comedy classic!
