Low Country Boil Recipe for a Small Group
INGREDIENTS
2 Tsp Old Bay Seasoning Per quart of water
6 Ears Sweet Corn Cut into 3-inch sections
3 Lbs Red Potatoes Cut into quarters
2-3 Lbs Fresh Shrimp Leave in the Shell. Can use Frozen if you can't get fresh
1-2 Lbs Smoked Sausage
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 Start by filling up a large stock pot with cold water till it's half full.
Step 2 Bring to a boil and add in Old Bay Seasoning.
Step 3 Once water is boiling, add in potatoes and cook for 15 minutes.
Step 4 Add in the smoked sausage and the corn on the cob.
Step 5 After 10 minutes, add in your Shrimp.
Step 6 Cut the burner off and allow the boil to cool off for about 15 to 20 minutes. This cooling-off process allows the ingredients to soak up the seasoning as it cools.
Traditionally, Low Country Boil is poured out on a long table covered with brown craft paper or newspaper but you can serve out of the pot if you prefer.

Carolina Chris Outdoors Yeah man it was so good. This fall I'm gonna do a oyster roast and show them how us SC boys do it!
This is the best explanation and instructions I have seen! Thank you!
Well thanks a bunch. I feel like sometimes I don't explain stuff the way I'd like too lol. I'm glad it made sense.

Tango Joe I agree. What's better than gathering around a table of food. Thanks for stopping by my friend!
I had this last year for the first time in Greenville. I was working at the BMW pro-am golf tournament and the caterer made it for us. Phenominal. Best meal I had all week. Looking forward to making it at home. Thanks for the video.
Yes, it is a local favorite around here! I am glad you enjoyed it and hope you end up making it! Thanks for stopping by.
I love your version of low country boil. I’m gonna add mussels to mine tonight. Well done Sir! You do SC proud. 😊😋 🦐
Thanks so much. I love my state and one thing I want is to share how awesome it is with others! I hope your boil turns out great!
Looks good. I am in SC now. Beautiful state.

Frogmore Stew. We always cook big here. Good sized pot. White & yellow corn. Then shrimp. That looked good when you dumped it out! Dive in everybody! Nice simple, quick dish, or table you got there. Thanks!
+Pat THE LANDLORD Bennett Yes it's really good. Have you had it or heard of it before?
No, that's a new one on me. Looked real good. I'll have to give it a rip sometime. Always nice to try something different. Thanks bud.
+Pat THE LANDLORD Bennett I got ya. It's a pretty local dish so I was surprised if you had heard of it.
Amazing instructions, thank you!
You are welcome. One thing I like to add, after shrimp is cooked, turn burner off and let it sit for about 20 minutes.
Wow! This looks so good, thanks for the recipe, Ronnie 😊
Ernest Kwok Thanks Ernest!
if you go out to edge of wadmalaw island you can get some absolute monster shrimp by the pound straight off the boat. mix those and some crab legs in the mix and you're living full yeeyee.
Yeeyee lol. We get fresh shrimp off the boat all the time. I got 10 lbs that I got off a friend that goes to the coast and catches it themselves. I just dehead them and portion out into bags then freeze for later. Hey thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!
interesting never heard of this before looks good!
Bubbas Garage Vlogs It's really big in the South where I'm from. People have it at large gathering. Thanks buddy.
Yummy Yummy Southern Dish my Friend and Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ellen's Homemade Delights Yes I love it. Have you had it before? Happy 4th to you as well.
lots of good eating... there Ronnie.... Potatoes are a must... mmm looks yummy... might need a bigger table Ronnie.
Channel 33 with Spongie Yeah I needed a long table had to make do though. Thanks friend
Simple enough, and looked great!
Thanks, guys. Yeah, this is a pretty simple but delicious dish. Give it a try and see what you think! Thanks for stopping by.
Excellent, easy video. Thank you. Supposedly adding a small amount of vinegar will help with peeling the shrimp. I always add a couple halved lemons and a sliced onion to mine for flavor. Brussels sprouts also make a great addition.
I’ll try that vinegar next time and see.
I steep mine longer now and I do usually add onion and lemons as well! Thanks for watching!
That looked awesome. 👍👍
txsviking Thanks my friend. You should try it and let me know what you think?
I will!
Looks easy and delicious. Thanks for the video.
You are welcome 🙏
Miss Betty has done this but it's a little different. Loved watching Ronnie. Have a wonderful 4th of July. It's raining so much here.
Hey Calvin. I got a mail call video coming soon! Thanks for your support. I love this dish. It's so good.
Looks good, never heard it called frogmore♡♡♡
Yes it was originally created in Frogmore, SC hence the name. It's really good and a great tradition. Thanks for stopping by.
I sure miss the meals from home
Carolina Man It's hard to beat Southern food and SC food!
looked awesome, I been wanting to do this for a while, with crawdads, I was hoping to see you try the finish product :(
+Keeping It Dutch Yeah I should have shown me eating it. It's really good local dish. Grew up on this.
it's that time again!!!
For sure! Waiting on shrimp season to come in! Come on May 😄
You can add broccoli and it soaks up the flavor and adds color.
I will have to keep that in mind. I was going for more of the traditional way that its cooked in SC. Hey, I appreciate you stopping by and commenting!
love it,now I want to make a small inside version.
Lil' Red Southern Kitchen Yes it's really good! Take pictures if you do post em on my Facebook page!
I sure will, of course I would give you a shout out for the inspiration.
Lil' Red Southern Kitchen I would appreciate that! Have a great weekend.

@@KittensNJ Thanks so much for the kind words. I love all food too! The North has made lots of contributions to the food world, many which I love.
Awesome channel. Subscribing.
Thanks
I've lived in South Carolina all my life & I've never heard another person ever call it Frogmore Stew. We will, on the other hand, call it a Beaufort Stew
Yeah I think it just depends what part of the state you were raised in. We call it low country boil in my area.
Next time, invite me over and I will eat it all!!
KitschyTravels Haha yeah it was really good!
Nice job.
Thanks 🙏
Man I can almost taste that now, Brother that sure looks good! I’ve never had anything like that but I sure do like everything you put into it😂 I think I’m gonna just start cooking all these things you cook every week so my family will think I can cook good 😜 thanks for sharing!
Haha man this is so good. This similar to what Danny did the other week in the foil packets. This is the SC way it’s made and a traditional dish here. It’s served at gatherings and weddings and such! Most ppl just pour it out on the table! We get fresh shrimp where I live but too much more west and it’s hard to find. I got a guy that I know that goes to the coast each week during shrimp season and catches it on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Then sales it here on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Heck yeah that’s cool, sounds like a great guy to know especially if your a fat boy like me that likes to eat😜 I’ve been shrimping a couple times and it’s a great time but a lot of work cleaning them lol..
Swamp Stalker Outdoors yes sir always good to know! Lol
Haha 😂 yes we got to know the guys to go to, sorta like a drug dealer for us big guys haha 🤣
😂 I know that’s right!
Great group recipe ! Do you add more seasoning once it's done ?
Sylviane You can but usually we don't. I don't see why it would hurt though!
Man this looked amazing, what part of SC are you in?
Thanks buddy. I am not too far from Charlotte, NC. What we call the Piedmont. I am in the middle of the state but towards the top.
looks good would the recipe be good with cajun adouille sausage? wanting to get that little bit of kick in the water without making it to spicy other then that sticking with the old bay but plan on doing the corn, baby red potatoes, cajun adouille sausage, shrimp and crawfish then thought about putting some lemons garlic cloves and butter with the old bay at the beginning wish me luck
Yes you could do that. This is just the traditional way it’s made in SC. I actually add lemons and butter to mine too. I also let it Steep fir about 20 minutes after I cut the burner off. You can put pretty much what you want in it and make it your own. Some ppl put whole eggs in it to make boiled eggs. Thanks 🙏
I like to add pearl onions when I make this.
I bet that is great to add. I might try that next time! Thanks for watching.
Got his shrimp from Charleston👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes sir 👍🏼
@@SouthernFoodJunkie I grew up there
@@noahjoye9821 I love visiting there. I’m from SC too!
Nice vid
Thanks 👊
I love that stuff! Is it spicy when using the old bay?
The way we make it round here it's not that spicy. In Louisiana, they make theirs spicy. Old Bay is crab boil. Not sure if you ever had that. With all that saying, you can add in cayenne pepper or something to make it hot if you prefer it.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie my mother always made it with some seasoning pack and it would be a little spicier than I would like, that's why I was wondering if that was any different.
Where is your mother from?
Yeah this has lots of flavor but not spicy. The sausage and old Bay brings the flavor. Try it with the old Bay. It might taste a little different than what your used to.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie My mom lives in Lancaster.
About how much corn, sausage and shrimp for this recipe? Thanks, Mark
It really depends on much your feeding but if you got to southernfoodjunkie.com/recipe/low-country-boil/ there is a printable recipe for you! Thanks 😊
You forgot the onion.
Hello from a 64 year old from Frogmore.
Hey there friend. I do put onions in it now, but I didn’t back then. Thanks for stopping by and glad to have another SC native on board!
Do you also cover the pot after adding the corn and shrimp?
Yes. It's also a good idea to turn the pot off after cooking and let it soak about 10 to 15 mins as it cools a little. It allows it to soak up the flavor.
cool, thanks for the info. Doing this 2night!!
@@metallic6121 You are welcome. Let me know how it turns out! I got a big one coming up to do myself in a few weeks!
Sure thing brother. This is my first time doing this. I got a turkey fryer and been wanting to do this for sometime now. Ill let you know how it turns out. Thanks again bro
Sounds good. Hope it works out for you.
I use Zatarans
That’s some good stuff too. Old Bay is what makes this dish different from a Louisiana Shrimp Boil!
Sweetie, had to click off when you measured the seasoning.
Can I ask why? I actually went light on the seasoning compared to what most people use.
I’m just pulling your chain a bit, great video-but the seasoning, dump that stuff in there and see how it turns out.
R Yeckley I was wondering lol. Most use 1/2 a cup mine is only about 1/4 cup if you add it up. Thanks for watching.
If the water is boiling, the corn is done in 3 minutes. Don't overcook the corn.
That is true but most ppl are going to buy frozen corn which cools the pot off. It takes it a bit to come back up to temperature.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie We always throw fresh corn on the cob in. But yes, 3 minutes after the water boils again.
I made this in Helen, Ga when I was camping. I shouldn't have poured the leftover broth on the ground. Evidently, it attracts bears. My bad. 😎😎
Oh yeah I could see that attracting the bears haha. We went to Helen, GA back in 2014. Really enjoyed it. Did some hiking and just relaxed.
