I was a bank teller for three years. If you're getting a Cashier's check or Money Order to deposit into your "other" account, it needs to say "Pay to the Order of YOUR NAME" on it. Never Ever have it in someone or some institutions name unless you're buying a car or actually paying someone else the funds. That is the fatal flaw here as the man found out. The teller that drew up the check should have asked him what he was going to do with it. If he said deposit it in his BofA account, it would absolutely be made out to him, not BofA. Please make a note of it.

Yes, the moment it was revealed that the cashier's check was made out to Bank of America instead of his name, I understood the error. But why didn't 10 different tellers and managers not noticed this right off the bat? Giving this man the run around could have turned this situation really ugly. $33k is someone's life savings. Unacceptable.

Yup and the idiots that looked at it, and telling him "nothing that I can do" aka I do not know 🤷🏻‍♀️ did not looked at the error 😳 like- ohhh, the check says- payable to Bank of America, not your name Sir. 😮 Let me call Bank of America customer service to take care of this error. Instead, the tellers and managers said. " nothing that I can do." BS 😡 I'm with the poor man side. He didn't know about that error. It happens, especially if the person is not used to making cashiers checks. The well fargos bank teller should have said- "Sir, just to clarify, you're going to pay Bank of America 33 grand as in the bank itself or for your account?" 🧐

I had a similar experience with a southern California BofA back around 2006. They took my deposited check and it vanished. I went back with the deposit receipt and they told me that it was fake. They claimed that the Teller number doesn't exist who processed the deposit. But when they looked in the computer records they saw the transaction but they still declined to take responsibility. Several days later they eventually claimed the check might be lost at some Nevada check processing facility. The check did finally get processed 2 weeks later. After receiving the good news that the check was finally processed, I went back to the BofA branch to discuss the issue and demand an explanation why they called me a liar. Their branch supervisor and branch manager refused to meet with me. That's when I closed all my accounts and switched to another bank.

The biggest issue here is the horrible service by the branch manager. That receipt had a transaction no., time ir day, branch no., and likely an identifying number for the teller who processed the check. He could have tracked the status of that deposit in about 2 minutes had he been so inclined or had one of his tellers do it. The manager's behavior was unprofessional and completely unacceptable. He would have been relieved of his job asap had I been his boss. With all of those branches closing, it would have taken less that 24 hours to replace him with one of those branch managers. Clearly BoA is really interested in non-institutional customers, the little guy. Take heed.

Saturday morning, three black women, dressed in very fancy church attire, large hats and gloves, sat next to me. Through tears I told them what Bank of America was doing and that I was not able to pay my dad's funeral costs. Those beautiful women held a very loud, audacious church ceremony in the bank lobby. Arms flailing, voices on high, some dancing, prayer meeting. It was a spectacle. By end of day, I received my entire amount. I am convinced that BOA was attempting to steal my money. I had a student account opened by my mom that started when I was in 6th grade, money from summer jobs. This was to be used to buy my first car. Over 5 years of time I had a decent down payment saved. I went to withdraw my money, and got the story it didn't exist, they cancelled all student accounts. My mom was active in the city's social services and personality knew the Mayor, the Chief of police, and our Senator. The Mayor and the Police showed up at the bank with my account records showing my deposits and talked to the banks president and asked about the money. Within an hour my mom was called and the money was credited to my account. They all waited for us to go, close the account and gave us all my money. The Ford dealer across the street made a fantastic deal on my first car. Oddly enough that particular branch no longer exists.

When we got to Germany, both those branches were commercial banking only, and they refused to help us whatsoever. I had a bad experience With BOA back in 79-80. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and had a checking account with BOA. I had been with them about 1 1/2 years bringing my pay check in for deposit every two weeks. One day in the mail I get a letter saying my account was closed and a check for close to $170 which was my balance. I don't understand why my account was closed so I go in to the branch I always used and handed the teller my deposit book and ask her to tell me the status of my account. She takes it and goes to look it up and comes back and says it's closed. I ask her can you tell me why and she says "because it was over drawn for more than 30 days. I ask her to look at the deposit book and explain to me how I could be over drawn for more than 30 days when I am in there every two weeks depositing my pay check and I was sent a check for $170 the balance in my account when it was closed for being over drawn. A manager stops to see what is going on and the very confused teller fills her in. The manager comes back after looking up my account again and says that what happened was the person that normally recorded debits and deposit records was off sick one day another person did the job and one used check marks to show the account was over drawn the person used check marks to show it was good. So, my account was closed by mistake and my balance returned to me. I had 4 or 5 checks I had written that had not come in to the bank yet but when they do at that time would be returned to whoever I had written them to as refused because the account was closed making it look like I was writing checks on a closed account. back then California would put you in jail. for that. So, the manager asks me what I wanted her to do about it. I said that I wanted my account reopened my balance redeposited and if any of the checks had gotten refused to because of my account being closed by no fault of mine but by bank error a letter from the bank saying it was a bank error and not mine. She could not understand why I would want my account reopened. I told her so that I would not look like a criminal writing bad checks on a closed account to several other businesses. After this got cleared up, I left BOA never to return.

The lesson taught in this story is make sure the check is made payable to you if you’re depositing to your account. I’ve purchased many cashier checks before. The bank teller asks you who you want the check to be made out to and the amount. Once the check is printed out, the teller asks you to visually confirm that everything is correct before the check is handed over to you. This guy didn’t do a good job verifying his check at the time he purchased. He had the check made to Bank of America. So the Bank thinks this money is for the bank. If I were to deposit a check that isn’t under my name, the bank woild not put the fund into my account even after the teller deposited because they have a deposit audit at the end of the day. This is on him too.

The same happened to my direct deposit account at another large bank. The branch took the money and placed it in an unknown account under an address several years old and said the money was lost. Sorry about that, friend.
It took calls to national customer service and three visits to the branch but I got my money back. Then it became clear to me that the best solution was to simply close all accounts.

@@patriciaglover9740 Yeah that’s not right. It’s like handing off your child to a daycare and them saying, “We own them now.” Like, that’s so sinister, especially when even proof won’t suffice them. Talk about playing a dangerous game, when you’re in the right only for them to turn around and say you’re left. Nah bruh, that’s not fair. Don’t be playing with our money like that.

Yeah, if he wouldn't have made it public, it would have been: theres nothing we can do, you embarrass them publicly and there's something they can do.

If someone is telling a story that calmly, you know it’s going to end with him getting back his money

All the BoA branches in my area have been closed temporarily for awhile. Now it makes me think they are close so people don't do a run on the bank. Annoying that you have nail them to wall to get any help.

Problem started when the guy made out the cashier check to Bank of America, a very common mistake when transfering money from one bank to another but the same account owner. Now, the situation that no one could do anything sounds very strange, i mean tellers can't do anything, but a branch manager can. I would take my business to another bank.

This is far from the first time this has happened at Bank of America. I would NEVER put a nickel in that bank.

That happened to me. 3 BofA branches closed in my area in last 2 months. BofA and Wells Fargo are collapsing due to stock market and bankruptcy in 12 months. Move your money into credit union.

B of A and Wells Fargo are the 2 worst banks on the planet. Plenty of criminal undertakings with both. Why people continue to do business with these cons is beyond me.
