    "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away..."
    I live in a pretty rough part of a pretty rough town, just weeks ago there was a shooting only 5 blocks from my house. Unfortunately these sorts of things DO happen. This man is not paranoid, he is a good father, a good husband and a smart/prepared guy. I respect you sir.

    When talking "Home defense" there are many parts to consider, lighting,locks,alarms, firearms & my fav,presonal protection dogs. yes dogs are fantastic alarms,fantastic deterents & certain ones can be man stopers.A good dog will be way more alert than the average person, they make noise & can buy you valuable time in a situation.I Honestly cant see a good home defense without a couple of dogs.

      I have 5 dogs. A mini Shi-Tsu, 2 Shi-Tsus, 1 mini poodle, and a oversized beagle.. The most they can defend me from is a couple evil ankles! :) haha only kidding, they bark in a pin drops on the other side of the castle.. Good alarms & ankle deterrents

    the one prep you did not mention, although it is implied : Always keep yourself in the best physical shape possible. The poor guy in your home-invasion example won the fight but sadly lost the war (my prayers to his family) bc of the high-stress situation he was forced into. Stress his body could not endure. Preparedness takes many forms - that's why we all find your videos so valuable - another set of eyes on any problem is always a plus.

    Great video. I would add 2 things to think about. First is to keep a pair of shoes (that can be put on quickly) next to your bed. Not being barefoot will be a big advantage. Secondly, the use of properly placed night lights around your home. Be sure to illuminate the walls that are furthest from you. This will keep you in the dark but more importantly, it'll back light your foes, creating a nice silhouette for you to aim at. If your only line of sight from your bedroom is down a long hallway, it's also good to place night lights in the living room and/or kitchen. That way if an intruder is moving out of your line of sight, you'll see their shadows across the floor, letting you know where they are.

    • @adame312
      @adame312 5 лет назад +2

      Dont shoot at just a silhouette, you need to be able to ID your target positively, what if its just your son/daughter coming back into the house late at night after your curfew or just getting up to get something in the kitchen, you might wind up shooting them mistaking them for an intruder because you couldnt clearly make out your target. One of the 4 major rules for gun safety is be sure of your target and its surroundings as well as be sure the target you aim at is something you plan to 100% destroy, god forbid you shoot a shadow and it wind up being your kid.

      Place battery powered motion sensor lights in rooms, closets, and hallways of your home. There are also battery powered infrared sound alarms one could place in your home to alert you. Small battery alarms on windows, doors, including garage door, and portable sheds Portable flood lights. The portable "Ring video cam with flood lights or the smaller version you might place in be used on all sides of the house. Then you might use the smaller Ring video light camera to be used in all rooms. This would give you stragic information about an intruders location. You could view them as well and it would be recorded. If you have a safe room you could hide there and advise first responders.
      I like the pouch and the tactical belt idea. I like the idea of shoes being kept at bedside. Maybe include pants, shorts, t-shirt as well.
      This video was thought provoking! All the comments that I read were great.
      Just tell authorities you had to defend you and your family. Have a lawyer to call. Tell law enforcement you will tell what happened after you speak to your lawyer.
      Best to be prepared. May we never have to actually have a " home invasion " experience!

    DOG WHISTLE/CAR ALARMS - My eldest son and I recently made gun belts for ourselves as we found that they are easy to snap on and get addressing whatever situation we may have. But one of the things that we did is include a dog whistle on our belts. We have a dog and the neighbors have dogs as well. So without giving away our location, we can get the dogs up and barking which can also alert our neighbors as well and send a message to the intruder(s) that the dogs are now up. Another thing we have done is place secondary sets of car keys in our safe room for the cars. My wife and kids can set off the car alarms if there is an issue and if you let your neighbor know ahead of time “hey if you hear my car alarms going off and you can see I’m not taking care of it, please call 911 for me right away”. You can also encourage them to do likewise and it may even bring some extra fire power to a situation faster than the police can come. God bless.

    Great ideas. Been doing very similar for years. A couple of additional items you might want to add. My format is an over the shoulder small single strap bag. It rests on the back of my head board post while I sleep. If startled while sleeping I just pull strap over my head and shoulder. Everything I need ready to go in 2 seconds. Also I include 2 chemical lights sticks. Great at night to activate in a dark house and toss into a dark room with possible intruder. It back lights him making it easier to see his movement while you remain in darkness. I include small foil pouch of water (Coast Guard life boat survival water. 8oz) can use as wound flush as well as eye wash from flying debris or pepper sprey back blast. Also include a whisle to signal at appropriate time. I include a pair of flex cuffs in case I need to nuetralize possible multiple assailants during home invasion scenario. I also store an old out of date, no service cell phone connected to the shoulder bag. All out of service cell phones still have the ability to connect with 911. I can leave it charging constantly to insure reliable 911. Always available 24/7 for anyone in master bedroom even when our primary cell. Phones are located somewhere else. Cell stays plugged in and connected to the bags exterior but detaches it self when I pull it off of the head board and over my neck and shoulder. Stay safe, stay free.

    Also very important: multiple locks on doors with lockable storm doors (not the flimsy stamped one layer screen door) because home Invaders tend to kick doors inward; also just in case, if someone comes through, I have shelves next to my door, and if someone gets through I have a long piece of steel that will get knocked off the shelf if the door opens, alerting my dogs and me. In other words get creative when it comes to home security. And most importantly, guns, ammo, and practice.

    EVERYONE Yes sootch is awesome and gives awesome advice, and is very knowledgeable on firearms and etc. But he is obviously not law expert (nether am i, just a potato typing on a keyboard) but please there are some major flaws in this video that could wined you up in jail. Or prison. While there is more then this, ill cover this part, as the rest wont result in as much legal issues as i can see this misconception causing. No. When you call 911, you do not leave the phone on. As anything recorded, or heard, could be used against you in the court of law. I have plenty of family in Law and are LEOs that will back me on this. As is where i heard this from. And as a matter of fact, all you need to say to the dispatcher, is your name, address, the type of emergency, and that you have gun. THAT'S IT. HANG UP. Anything you say can and WILL be used against you in the court of law. Most departments even give bonuses to dispatchers if that dispatcher gets any material that can aid in the sentence of you or the perp in court (if the city or DA finds any charges to press towards you of course) Something to think about.
    Also, while i live in a state that has the castle doctrine, but even for those who are not, if you shoot someone, in your house, and you feel threatened. For yourself or your family, their is practically nothing benefiting you from recording such an event, in fact, you are only creating more evidence against YOU and only you. Now the perps family that is counter suing has a recording to use in court against YOU. Now a self defense situation out on public property, that is totally different.
    And as well as any police officers showing up to your house. DO NOT say anything. Other than "i feared for my life, and i opened fire" after that plead the 5th. Why? Again, anything you say CAN and WILL be used against you in court. And you just shot someone, you are freaking out, not collected, again- as you just shot someone. You are not in the state of mind to make ANY sort of statements. Especially to the police. So any miss worded comments to the police in this time of duress, can be used against you in court as well. While this i defensible, it will only result in more spent money and time in court. So DO NOT say anything to the police, only to your attorney. And for the love of all holy, do not dare say the K word around the first responders (kill/killed) just say you shot him if you end up saying anything at all.
    Again, just some potato over a keyboard, but please take this into advise.

    Why give your wife a shotgun? An AR15 is lighter, easier to handle, holds way more ammo, and is easier and faster to reload if needed. When using the right ammo AR15s penetrate fewer interior walls than most handguns and 12 gauge buckshot.

    I am probably the first on the internet to address this issue as I haven't seen anyone mentions it before ~ that is for home defense, whatever gun u choose to train n defend ur home with, the most important preparation is to buy two exact same guns and store one unloaded, away from usage n reach. The reason is that after u have defended ur home successfully n most likely injured / killed the invader, u are obligated to call the emergency services or police once the situation is safe to do so, as a result ur used gun from this successful home defense will be taken away by law enforcement on scene as legal evidence n won't be returned to u anytime soon. Your stored away exact same gun will enable u to defend ur home in the same efficiency n manner the very next day. In other words, its ideal to stick n train with 1 gun for home defense , and always have 2 of that gun ~ 1 ready to use n 1 store away for replacement.

    i see alot of people here saying kids and guns dont mix, that is incorrect. Ignorant kids and guns dont mix. Just teach your kid what a gun is for and who its for and what could happen. Kids only " play " with guns because their parents havent taught them not too.
    bottom line:
    teach your kid guns aint toys and dont play with it, if the kid doesnt listen to you, whos fault is it really?

    • @John5.56
      @John5.56 3 года назад

      I imagine you're not a parent. If your kid didn't listen to you and grabbed your gun it's your fault for leaving it where they can access it and trusting that an undeveloped child is always going to listen to their parent you absolute muppet. I honestly hope you're not a parent, and stupid comments like this is what makes gun owners look like morons. Even tho i do agree most kids only play with guns because they don't know any better OR their parents treat guns as forbidden fruit and the kids are curious because, well they're kids.

      @@Cryptonymicus your comment shows your complete lack of knowledge of what the bible actually says. Find me one place where Jesus condemned anyone or said anything negative about them being a soldier or a guard, or a centurion. It isn't in there. Besides the verses already given in this thread, The Lord Jesus Christ never condemned the owning of weapons for defense. And BTW, when the Lord comes back, He comes as the Lion of Judea to wage war against the nations, with a sharp twoedged sword going out of His mouth, to which He uses to smite all the nations. Actually READ the Bible before pretending to know what it says. Call upon the Lord before its too late!

    ***** 11:17
    Be a little careful with that wording partner. You might have anti-gunners watching.
    Now if it's used for home defense, it wouldn't be an "assault vest". With that aside, I really enjoyed your points about preparedness.

    • @Moneylol
      @Moneylol 9 лет назад +1

      Sum Ma I see and agree with your point but one could counter that an assault vest could be used in response to an assault, as well as used for assault.

    • @austenbrennan2376
      @austenbrennan2376 9 лет назад +1

      ***** AR's and semi-auto AK's are not assault rifles, nor are they "modified assault rifles." The term "modified assault rifle" suggests that they were at one time assault rifles (capable of full-auto fire), and were then modified to be semi-auto only, when the exact opposite is true. AR-15s and semi-auto AKs are manufactured to only fire in semi-auto mode, they are not, nor were they ever, assault rifles. An M4 carbine is an assault rifle, an AR-15 is not. An M14 is an assault rifle, an M1A is not. A Kalashnikov AK-12 used by the Russian military is an assault rifle, a Krebs Custom AK is not. The military does not use an AR-15, they use the M4 carbine and M16A4 assault rifle.
      Of course those rifles aren't hunting rifles. Like you said, they can be used for hunting and sporting purposes, but those aren't the sole reason why they were made. I don't think I've ever heard another pro-gunner say that an AR or AK was designed solely as a hunting rifle.

    • @austenbrennan2376
      @austenbrennan2376 9 лет назад +1

      ***** The AR-15 actually came first, I believe. If anything, the M16 is an assault rifle that was modified from the original semi-auto version. The AR-15 is also internally different from the M16 in more ways than just the fire selection capabilities. The bolt carrier and lower receivers are actually made differently so that it specifically cannot fire in automatic mode.
      That said, they're still two different rifles. One is intended for the civilian market, while the other is manufactured specifically for the military community.

    • @austenbrennan2376
      @austenbrennan2376 9 лет назад +1

      ***** That's also one of my main beefs with our current climate as well. We've always got to be very careful about how we talk about guns because there's always some politician who knows nothing about the 2nd Amendment or guns in general just waiting to pounce on something they can use to paint all gun owners as evil, bloodthirsty killing machines with no feelings. Ideally, the only reason an AR-15 would exist would be because there's a market of people who don't want a full-auto version, rather than it being the only option people have to avoid being on some kind of registry.

    • @MMASulu
      @MMASulu 9 лет назад +3

      It'd be nice to live in a society where you and your buddies can hang out with legal select-fire machine guns on your backs enjoying the day without any scared anti-gunners calling the cops (which classifies as discrimination).

    This was a very good comprehensive look at home defense. One thing I'll mention is: in a home invasion, you might not have time to grab the belt and carry pack. Many times the intended victom only has seconds to react and doesn't even have time to dial 911. I have several ideas that I'll add: Keep a cell phone in addition to your home phone by the bed. Phone cords can usually be cut from the outside. Another thing: get a video system to cover blind spots around the home.

    Hey Scootch00, I agree we all need to teach and mentally prepare everyone in the home but I think educating everyone on the extreme stress they will deal with is more vital than just range time or having the weapon...Many years ago I was dating a Navy nurse, she worked at the experimental diving unit in PCB FL...There was a horrible accidental shooting by a SEALs girl friend or wife, The bump in the night happened, the team guy gave his significant other a 357 and told her if anyone came in other than him to shoot them...I dont remember the exact details but some how she thought he was the bad guy and gut shot him, he lived but it was a life changing event for both of them as you can imagine....Arming our loved ones is important and training them for the high stress is more important...Just wanted to share this....I dont think people are focusing enough on real world fear and dealing with it. Keep up the good work

    Barnes has a projectile called "varmint grenade" they're 35 grains in weight-but-the cool thing about these-it looks like a really big hollow point-but its even better-cuz-the entire cone of the projectile is all hollow with only a copper jacket-It-actually uses the cavity of air and when it enters flesh-it seals and creates a small scale explosion...PERFECT for home defense with the AR's...Thanks Sootch-GREAT VIDEO BRO!! Sootch00 I always enjoy watching your videos, 1) You are always sincere about what you talk about. 2) You seem to be honest and kind. I don't always agree with everything you say though The bags and belt, are actually a good idea. But in a real life situation I don't know how practical they are. I mean in the middle of the night some kicks in the door to your house. You hit 911 and grab your gun and flashlight is about all you are going to get done. If one was to use the bags and belts that you have shown here I would like they need to practice with the bag and the belt, just like they would their gun. The time when you need the items in your bag. you don't want to have to be looking down at the bag in the dark, trying to find stuff.
    Sootch00 again another fine video. There is a lot of good information. I hope the viewers can take this information and craft what works best for them.

    I meant paintball markers with SOLID NYLON BALLS (also called "glass breaking balls" or "skull breakers")
    These balls have more than twice the penetrating power than rubber balls or paintballs.
    I did a test using newspapers. These nylon balls shot through 4 layers of newspaper stacked together, when the paintballs couldn't even pass through 2 layers.

    s00tch: Just wanted to thank you, as a young, married man, for lighting a fire under me to be prepared. Your defense bag idea saved my life, when two armed, masked men kicked in my door at 2 A.M. and I had everything all ready for an internal retreat with my wife. Luckily, it didn't come down to shots fired; but, had I NOT had the bag at the ready (heavy sleeper), I might not be writing this. You are an inspiration and I'm very grateful for what you do. Blessings, good sir.
