Lee Moran is a name that doesn’t get mentioned a lot, but he was the first to squat over 1000 lbs in 1984. Also, I would definitely have Chuck V on my list. He was the first to squat over 1000 lbs at a body weight under 275, and he did it as a 220! If you look back at the top squatters as listed in PL USA at that time, he was #1, over 100 lbs more than the next best squatter, Ed Coan.
Moran was a Hell's Angel, a Great Powerlifter. But, an Organized criminal nonetheless. I guess life outside the gym doesn't matter, but when you are a part of a methamphetamine dealing, racist motorcycle club that only and only recruited from White Folk, then, fuck your 1000 lbs Squat. BTW I respect Moran as a lifter, believe it or not. 🥃
My personal faves when it comes to style and intensity 1. Paul Anderson 2. Kazmaier 3. Vogelpohl 4. Karwoski 5. Malanichev There are so many though. And yes I agree on Vlad being at the top.
Vlad, Dan bell, Dave hoff, Captain Kirk, Blaine sumner has to be up there to. Dealing with the wack ass IPF and totaling I think 2900 or something in single ply.
Jaroslaw Olech is a phenom in the single ply division i IPF. I do know that tested dont mean natty, but he has have a long fking career and squatted insane weights also. "He has won the world title at the International Powerlifting Federation seventeen consecutive times in his lifting class."
Lee Moran. 1003 lbs at the 1984 nationals, Ken Leistner said he was 2 inches below parallel. There is a video of him squatting 953 lbs with no belt. He was a member of the Hells Angels. Also, Donnie Thompson. Two of the greats imho. Marty Gallagher wrote a great article about Moran at the '84 nationals.
Good list. Last guy ive never heard of tbh. Magnus Carlsson (ive trained with him for a couple of years) did 320kg without wraps but with a single ply suit back in like 1996 I belive. IPF - 60kg class. Edit: It was 1999!
Kowalsski is the first person I ever saw move real weight on the squat. He's the OG influencer, putting out training vids before the internet existed. I also like how Matt never includes himself on these lists.
Great list, I had most of those guys on my top 5 as well. I’d throw Dan bell in there for sure though. Pound for pound joe Sullivan as well, guys a monster for his weight class and has a smooth solid squat.
Yeah, Ray I was surprised but, Sumner is not either. This is his choice, and I think its pretty good accutaly. Jezza Ueepa did 470kg raw also, at 38y of age I belive. But the 490kg by Ray is beyond. I think he considered the fact of the impact (and the strenght) each individuals have had to the sport.
Chen wei-lings 210kilo squat @ 47kilo was incredible, she walked it out 3 times. Watch it its amazing. Lee Moran, Dave Waddington wrote the book. Underated and not spoken about the amazing Matt Dimel
I’m glad you mentioned Vlad, everyone seems to forget the fact he has done 525kg

Best, most fair minded list ever. You have showed your knowledge and class in the sport of Powerlifting with this video.
💪💪💪💪
I’m digging the new background
💪💪💪💪
Ray Williams has to be in the conversation. Heaviest sleeved squat of all time, tested or untested
💪💪💪💪
Nice to see Steve Goggins on here. I'm lucky enough to get coached by him and will be shooting for big deadlifts soon.
💪💪💪💪
Need to make top 10 lists. LOL so many incredible lifters who can be talked about.
💪💪💪💪

Pretty badass
Thanks Matt for making these videos.
💪💪💪💪💪
My top 5 squatters in no particular order: Steve Goggins, Kirk Karwoski, Ed Coan, Chuck Vogelpohl, and Dr Squat Fred Hatfield.
💪💪💪💪💪

And ive spotted him in 05/06 doing casual 5reps on 250kg raw, but then he didnt compete and weight was around 75kg I think.
Amit Sapir if I remember correctly held the world record in 4 weight classes at the same time for a little bit
Great video and breakdown of best squatters bro!!! From T.W.L.G.🤓🤓🤓
💪💪💪💪

Haha. Coulda maybe been on this one :)))

🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
I still see Steve Goggins every now and then he holds a lot of uspa meets in Atlanta
💪💪💪💪
Thanks for mentioning Steve Goggins! He's underrated!
💪💪💪💪💪
The 1000 pound double is the most exhilarating squat video I've ever seen.
💪💪💪💪💪
Belkin has to be up there, no so much in sleeves but wraps and single ply when he was younger.
💪💪💪💪
1. Kirk Karwoski
My list
1. Ray Williams
2. Vlad alhazov
3. Jezza uepa
4. Ed coan
5. Zahir khudayarov
Chuck Vogelpohl should be somewhere in there. Also I think it's safe to say you could have made that list yourself!
💪💪💪💪💪
Ray Williams another fantastic squatter
💪💪💪💪
In no order
Gotta be
Ray Williams
Steve Goggins
Ed coan
Kirk karwoski
YOU (Matt) - you did it both ways

Surprised that neither Ray or Chuck were mentioned, but it's hard to make a top 5.

@@budadi Blaine sumner is squat monster. Biggest legs ever lol
@@JohnSmith-cz3us Its the chicken shakes! Hope hes back will get well and we got to see one more big squat!
Captain kirk is legendary!
💪💪💪💪💪💪

Let's go a little old school! How about George Frenn,George Crawford and Ricky Crain.
💪💪💪💪💪
Great video
💯💯💯
Dave Hoff and Brian Carroll stand out for me.
😝😝😝
I think Marc Bartley AKA Spud had one of the fastest 1121 squat of all time.
I’d have to have Ray Williams, Chuck and Dr Squat. Great list.
Brian Siders. Exploded out of the bottom on every lift.
💪💪💪💪
Hard to argue with any of those guys. Hope you also considered Dr. Squat Fred Hatfield, Mike Bridges and Becca Swanson.
💪💪💪💪💪
Once again Matt my name never made it to your list!!!!! Mr 3000 is one of my top squatters.
Trained with Jesse Kellum for nearly 10 yrs. Watched him breaks squats records both geared and raw.
Another great for sure
Please share your favorites!!! 💪💪
Fred Hatfield as a bonus
Marty Gallagher I would say is one not listed… he train Kirk and Ed
💪💪💪💪

And of Rays 490 in sleeves wow
Captain Kirk. Steve Goggins. Dave Waddington. Lee Moran. Chuck V
andrzej stanaszek squatted 6x bodyweight in the IPF decades ago.
🎯🎯🎯
Matt, how important (and even possible) is someone's heigt to weight ratio in getting as strong as possible pound for pound?
andrzej stanaszek was a little person squatted 6x bodyweight in the IPF decades ago, His leverages certainly helped..
Algorithm do your job
My favorites are
1. Vlad
2. Chuck
3. Paul anderson
4. Kirk karwoski
5. Dan bell
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How can you not have Big Ray Williams in here. Broke the wrapped squat record wearing just sleeves 1080 and walked it out drug tested
Very true!!
Not to mention that Vlad came back from that broken knee
💪💪💪💪💪
Not putting in zahir khudayarov should be a crime
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ray's 490kg is, in my opinion, the greatest squat of all times
That’s a good one for sure. I also think Blaine Summers 1135 was good too
@@MrNatev715 Dan's 505kg/~1111lbs was good too
@@MrNatev715 good for sure, but vlad squatted 10kg more even without a suit
LEE MORANS först 1000 pound Squat 💪💪💪😎😎😎. After his first katastof attempt when all weights fell off. He is my number one. 😁 WOW
💪💪💪 great call!!
I feel Mike Bridges should have been on the list. Mike is someone who doesn't get near enough credit for the squats he did in the early 80s.
💪💪💪💪
Daniel bell
💪💪💪💪💪
Ivan Ivanov 4x bw front squat
💪💪💪💪
mikhail koklyaev did a 300kg no hands squat just for fun, out of a set of squat stands that don't look tested for 300kg, with no spotters.
Finding the line between impressive and dumb 🤣🤣🤣
Wow no Dan Bell. Absolutely criminal.
Make your own list 🤣🤣
@@WenningStrength Ray Williams, Tom Kallas, Dan Bell, Andrey and Zahir.
Paul Anderson would be in my top 5.
