- SO THE HUNT for a W210 took an interesting turn the other day! Lo and behold one of the nicest units of the E200 (non-Kompressor) that I've ever come across. And do note the registration number too; is this fated? :P
I've been quite keen on the W210 for some time now, as mentioned in a previous video, it wasn't always that way, in fact when they first appeared on the scene two decades ago, I wasn't a fan at all. Many were with me on this, coming to terms with that "big eye, small eye" headlight configuration wasn't easy, and many thought that MB AG had lost their minds.
However, fast-forward 20yrs later and I gotta say its unique styling has really grown on me. There's just something about the slab-sidedness of this car that makes it look so robust and appealing in this day and age, and while styling is indeed subjective, imho, this car has aged very well.
As at the time of uploading this video, it remains unsold, but I reckon it won't be that way for long. The great thing is that despite being just a naturally-aspirated 2.0L, 4pot, it doesn't feel at all underpowered, and is actually quite quick given its size. Another added benefit, cheaper annual road tax :)

I remember the day I went with my uncle to collect his brand new E 200 W 210, the showrooms doors at cycle and carriege lifted up and we rolled out slowly from the dealership, he was so proud to buy his first Mercedes, and he's looked back fondly on the W 210 after a string of S classes, always proclaiming thats the best car he ever owned...

Honest opinion ... I got w203 as my first car 9 years later which last month got myself a w210 ... best car I've ever bought🎉. I'm letting of them anytime soon .
I remember hating the big eye small eye as well last time, in the early 2000s but after a W211 came into the house, now i stare at the W210/W211 on the road with a smile. Somehow the design is just timeless and these cars live up to their heritage of being solid/safe cars.
Wholeheartedly agree with u bro, just like the beemer E60 that was met with very mixed reviews when it first appeared, it now looks so contemporary despite its age. This W210 has aged really well 😊👍🏾
My grandpa owns a Mercedes benz e 280 Elegance 1998 W210 and it's been reliable the whole time. He has owned it for the past 16 years.

This is a wonderful car, my dad previously used to own this car 1998 W210 model one step before this model you are showing! He drove for 11 years before he bought the Toyota Camry 25V and he had a slight regret after selling it and I should kept it.

Ngl the wiper blades movement design is one of the smartest if not the smartest design of all time. Love it! And yes you are not weird ..I like to see the "star" on the bonnet too everytime I drive an old Merc.. it's just so satisfying :D

I remember my dad bought this exact model and same color brand spanking new from C&C. Full of memories. Did 250k km in 5 years of ownership. Fun fact, there is a cassette player hidden behind the radio display. I think bottom right button opens it. The screen will flip down.
Also remember the salesman saying something about the whole sound system runs on fibre optic wiring. Solid car. Almost never see a crashed one where it's crumpled beyond the firewall.

My family has a similar model; W210 E200 non-Kompressor facelifted Avantgarde, but it was a 2002 recond unit from the UK, so it has more buttons on the dashboard (heated front seats, etc.) and fully leather wrapping on the steering wheel. I totally agree about it being like a tank. The smell of the leather seats is still there, all parts are still working like a champ, smooth pick up from standstill, and comfortable handling even on bad roads. I drove it from time to time before replacing my 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8 XG-L with the new Almera Turbo last November. Driving it feels so premium, and maintenance cost is not that bad.

What a Beautiful W210 Chris, pretty Mint! I think its typically normal for a Merc to run above the 80 degrees mark. It should be operating 80 - 90 degrees on the temperature gauge. Usually Once the engine is fully warmed up it should sit 90 degrees on the temp Gauge. If the Temperature is unstable then it could possibly be a faulty Thermostat. We had different trims in the states.
We got the E320, E430, and E300TD, along with an E55 AMG trim.
Nice! We have the E320 here too, but since we pay an annual road tax according to the size (c.c.) of the engine, it's not very popular in the used car market. Would love to have one though 😁👍🏾🙏🏽

I think with the W211 the "Mercedes" feeling left. I just don't like the curvy dash which started with W211. W210 is the last of the elegant Benz. The rest that followed were either like the Toyota or the Honda, not "Mercedes" !

Rust is common, period. Our climate here is a superb breeding ground for it, all cars will eventually suffer this, no matter what, esp if it's been outdoors all its life 🙏🏽😊

I own a w210 1998 model. Only maintenance and some minor issues over the years. I am sure it can run another 25 years with proper care.

Chris were the seats eve re-upholstered? Most of the cars from this era their seat condition by now is anything but pleasant. This however considering the mileage is very very nice.

Still in immaculate condition based on the mileage which is quite high. Its a parktronic sensor and not a distronic.good luck in d hunt. Advantage trim is maple wood n this is an elegance spec.

For me I reckon it'd be a really good daily driver, esp the E200, cheaper annual road tax and fuel efficient too, but do try it out for yourself first though 😊

If u mean what's the difference between W210 and E200, W210 is the model code, E200 is the variant. BTW u can find many W210s for yourself on Mudah and Facebook Marketplace, u don't need me for that 😊
You mentioned that door locks and unlocks.. This could be due to door light switch at the door panel not having proper contact when the door is closed. I suggest you walk around the car and see that all doors are flushed nicely with the body. A quick fix is to adjust your door locking mechanism or simply using some tape at the door panel so the switch goes all the way in. I hope this solves your problem.

We had a 1997 200E Elegance dark metallic green 5 speed automatic with a cloth interior. W210
Great car but not fast. We sold it with 106000 km and was in a nicer shape than the one showed here.
In 2003 we bought a irridium silver W211 200E Elegance automatic with compressor 163 hp
I sold it in 2006 with 50000km because my father passed away.
Both cars were bought new.
The engine bay is huge and easy to work on. Nowadays, you can hardly stick a hand into the newer Merc's engine bay.

the reason for that huge engine bay. early models had straight 6 engine in the E280, later changed to v6

I never a fan of Merc. I some how love the even older Merc looks though. Don't know why, but I like the two spoke, with the D shaped stainless steel steering wheel design. Those huge classic vintage Mercs. But I do like the big small eyes than the peanut eye.

I heard from Bobby video mentioned you bought a 124...so when see this video I was like aikk??!. Anyway this is one pretty 20 yrs old lady. I was told by MB parts people that W210 should be careful when do engine cleaning, cannot simply spray water because of harness wire.
Actually any engine, not just this one, u should NEVER jet wash it, there's a reason why cars have bonnets, hahaha!!😉
@@ChrisWeevilGarage ya jet wash is harsh and of coz applies for all. But most W124 engine can be spray with water tho. Less electronics.
@@HotRod16 nah, best to keep water out of there as much as possible. Of course engines are water resistant to an extent, otherwise there wouldn't be any front grille, but intentionally wetting them is never a good idea.
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yes agree. Best is simple air gun purging and simple damp cloth to wipe the engine and let dry.

How does this compare to an E39?
Different. The driving dynamics are different, this is a gentleman's cruiser, the E39 is slightly sportier in terms of handling and the noise its engine makes 😊
What engine to get if i choose to buy a w210? Balance between power and reliablity and roadtax cost😬
Possibly this E200, it's not underpowered at all, and 2.0L annual road tax is painless 😉

What I know this Mercedes is mostly used as taxis in Germany during the 90s to early 2000s.
in Germany manual e class is quite norm. together with steel wheels and plastic covers and also manual wind windows

my father sold his 18 years old proton waja in 2018. paint was excellent, ex factory. never resprayed entire period.
i believe the original clear layer has the top grade lacquer unlike those used after market painters which can suffer from oxidisation after several years.
i truly believe mercedes should have better paint quality so there is a chance that bonnet may have been resprayed.
