  • On a beautiful sunny day, we set out through the woods our Altai skis to build a campfire and try out our new Firebox cast-iron pans, baking ciabatta, frying up bacon and making potato chips over the flames for a solid grilled cheese meal.
With little to no talking in our videos, we focus on the sights and sounds of nature as we canoe, hike, backpack, ski, snowshoe, camp and inevitably cook, as much as possible, over a campfire with a kettle above the flames. We are grateful to be able to share the peace and beauty of the natural world and welcome all who wish to join us as we venture forth to quietly observe, savour and explore.

Thanks so much, Andrew. That's the same way we feel at the end of our adventures. Letting the fire burn down and go out is always too soon! We're pretty happy with the cast iron. It is plenty big enough for the two of us at least. Thanks again! Cheers! 😊

Reminds me of when I was about 12 or 13 with some of my friends... We would take a can of soup, a can opener, some bread and cheese and small Iron skillet. We would go out in the woods to an old washing machine drum, build a fire in the drum, Punch a hole in the soup cans put them in the coals and make our grilled cheese in the skillet... Nothing like this of course but we had a ball. Good times.
Ah that bacon will be perking up the noses of hikers 1/4 mile away and bears 5 miles away... LOL Now that is a grilled cheese supreme...

Hi Max, What a wonderful memory - sounds pretty darn delicious too. Such youthful adventures with friends were simply the best. Simplicity is often the best (we always start out our planning saying "we'll just make something simple..." and then it morphs into something a little more. 😂 Maybe we will learn eventually 😜. Hope you are still on the mend and keeping well! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
