I lived in Tagbilaran City for 8 years. Every foreigner that had trouble was living with a bar girl. Every one. That kind of life ruins them. I broke every safety rule you mentioned repeatedly and vigorously without coming to harm. Not marrying a whore was the key.
I know a 70 year old man who lives in poverty, a 100% disabled veteran, gets close to $4000 a month and sends almost his whole check to 2 different women who he has never met in the phillipines. It astonishes me how stupid and pathetic some people are.
A lot of Filipinos think all foreigners are rich, The truth is very different but when they see you going to the ATM or eating out they think you are rich so it gets round the area you live so not hard to see how you would become a target.
most foreigners are not rich they live on small pension or sss philippines is $$$ now many things very expensive compared to usa when do people send things from philippines ? never always balik bayan from usa! because cheap and many products the rich in philippines are indian 5/6 and chinoy businessman !
Thank you for this information. I am a Boholana..living in the US for more than 30 years and I am planning to visit Bohol where I was born...and I plan to visit or renovate my mother's house (who passed away in August 2017) and take my husband (American white man) with me...and now I am afraid ...and shameful for what they have done to this retired soldier......in Bohol....very shameful...hmmmm
For one incident only, you're afraid and shameful? What about in the US, murders happen all the time. Here is worst than in Philippines. Don't be so naive. You don't know what motivated the murder.
@Rene Robyn China is the murder capital of the world. The people in charge slaughter millions of their own people. You won't be able to find very many statistics on that because China censors, hacks and erases this info off the internet
Rene Robyn - So why leave the US to come to another murder capital... the Lawless and just as dangerous Philippines? I have now cancelled my plans to retire in your country and will cancel my airline ticket for this July. No, I will retire in Cambodia instead and spend my dollars in a much safer country than yours or mine... the US.
Rene Robyn - Your reply was a laugh... “HaHaHa” to my reaction to his brutal murder. I could care less what you think. You and your heartless comment mean nothing to me... really, hahaha!
art gamer. are you serious? i was born in the phil. lived in the us for more than 30 years before i came back here. living here for now till i get my moms property taken care off. its a lot safer in the us than here.
Nick Fajardo safer in the us is bullshit. It's a shithole you have to work two to three jobs to survive people are queuing up for welfare and food stamps. You will get killed either at school or anywhere you go. Shooting is happening everyday in the usa and getting killed not one but scores of people getting shot at. Life is cheap in the usa because Americans loved their guns. I went to America for two weeks holiday just one day after arrival two filipinos were shot dead in ny. Are you blind? Or you cant accept the reality. The people in usa always rushing always frown their faces. The workers at the airport are very rude. You have to give tips everytime if dont they will swear at you.
You joked about it, but absolutely check the wife. Most likely played a part in the entire thing. The rest doesn't add up with regards to the location, time and obviously the killers had to know his schedule so they were fed the necessary inofrmation.
J.C J.C. Do you know his wife personally ? If not keep your biased opinions to yourself you dont know How loyal Filipino wives are why would she kill her Husband losing her income
Pro hit. He jogged into a pre- planned ambush. Of course no one see’s or hears the gunshots but they hear a motorcycle. My 1st question is “ who benefits with his death “ need look no further.
doc welby z Why would the wife have her husband killed? They've got children to feed. Husband is dead. Now there's no more monthly income that would be coming in.
Your wrong doc, she gets his military pension, if she has a American green card or US citizenship then she can claim 50% of his social security pension if she is a senior citizen. She also gets social security money for minor children so don’t forget that.
I lived in Bohol when he was shot and killed. I can guarantee you the police investigation stopped after they were done zealously measuring everything and taking lots of pictures and then they all go back to the precinct and their investigation is complete. Do you think they actually give a shit about finding the killers of the Foreigner? I lived in the Philippines for years and yes it can be a dangerous place and my neighbor hired a hitman to kill me. The reason? My farm was doing good and my crops were luscious and green and I paid a decent prevailing wage and some of her workers left their farm and of course she doesn't pay hardly anything and they came to my farm so instead of doing better it's easier just to have me killed. You can be killed in the Philippines over anything and this guy might have been a nice guy but all it takes is for you to look down on a Filipino when he's drunk or somehow insult someone's integrity or to walk around with an air of arrogance order show off something and cause people to be jealous which is a raging epidemic in the Philippines. Of course this was an organized hit two shots in the chest into in the head it's definitely a hit so whoever wanted him dead it could have been over something incredibly frivolous. You can be yelling and screaming in your own home as the attackers are attacking you and your neighbors who can always hear every bit of Gossip you talk about suddenly become deaf and they will never come over to help you and they will cower in their homes silent as a church mouse. There's lots of great things in the Philippines but their constitution is just some words on paper and it's very poorly enforced and the lack of law enforcement and the lack of respect for their constitution is why scams and crimes proliferate. My rule was always to be inside by 7 p.m. and I was always Pleasant to my neighbors and I never look down on a Filipino and I was polite even when they were begging from me or asking me to invest and they're stupid business idea where it's all my money but they're going to show me how rich I'm going to become. Anyway living in the Philippines if not for everybody and a lot of tourists go there and screw a few girls and after 2 weeks realize I can have a business here and make a lot of money because he's Filipino don't know how to do anything but then when you get here are you start spending that money and trying to run a business you realize that the business climate in the Philippines is 99% toxic and very difficult to make money and when you do make money it's only pesos so if you want to work 10 or 12 hours a day and make $20 a day go ahead. Very few foreigners ever do well in the Philippines and there's a damn good reason for that. Sorry for the rent hope you're doing well and be safe
Definitely an assassination. Two to the head and two to the body. Coupled with them waiting for him on his regular morning run. Not a robbery as he was running, doubtful he was carrying a wallet or other valuables. Also no one heard the gunshots, possibly homemade silencer or suppressor.
The retired soldier may have been a pawn in a very big political game. One week ago: "Beijing claims US warship 'violated' its sovereignty by sailing near Scarborough Shoal in South China Sea"
whitey george not all Muslims are like that jeez.I grew up in a community were Muslims are my classmates and they're one of the nicest people.Dont be too consumed on what you see in media cause not everything is true.
Usually when a foreigner gets killed They bury him and soon forgotten but in this case they are very serious about finding the killers and bringing them to justice. I applaud the authorities of Bohol for their due diligence
This is Heartbreaking news as I visited Bohol when I was in the PI back in 2004. Bohol was my favorite place, very Quiet and Peaceful, not overcrowded. I am a ZipLine guy and their ZipLine Park there was amazing. I stayed in Cebu City, Cebu while I was there. Really did like Bohol.
Sad, because the guy came from a beautiful state. Had he just relocated his family back to the states he would be alive today. It disturbs me that there are so many American men that ex-pat over women and a cheap place to live out their days. I grew up in the Philippines. My mother parentally kidnapped me and took me there when I was 3 and I resided there for 12 years. Despite learning the language and culture, I will always be an Americano...as all the Doyles will be.
I wanted to walk down a street near the house in the Philippines my wife said do not go there it is not a good street I always take her advice. Ask before you go there so you know what to expect.
It is totally impossible to not hear the gunshots, the neighbors heard it but does not want to get involved for fear of their life or they are all so envious of this Filipina who was married to this american soldier for having a good life that they had him killed, crab mentality is part of Filipino culture.
I have read this several times If you are not able to help the people of the Philippines you are not even wanted there. Something all should think about specially those who want to live outside the cities.
How do you stay away from trouble? Please share with us, what was the retired Colonel doing to create "trouble"? Oh, he was a foreigner... and yes I have been many times.
The first people to investigate are always the family. Though in the PI he might just have offended someone, but this was done for a reason and it is usually money.
I too believe that the wife had him assassinated. To me based on what you read it's obvious that they cased him for a while to learn his habits. And also they shot him twice in the chest and then twice in the head. They took the time to make sure he was dead. I wonder what kind of life insurance policy he had. Life is cheap in the Philippines and so is murder.
That’s a professional hit, if the wife arranged it then she automatically gets his military pension. If she would of gotten him deported, well she gets nothing if he files for divorce. Sometimes a Filipina wife’s family might have it done if he refuses to give money to family, so they get rid of the expat in order to control the woman to get money from her. They most likely used a suppresser on a gun to avoid loud noise. Unfortunately life is cheap in the Philippines.
Doesn't "automatically" get his pension, needs to be paying Survivor Benefit Plan to get half his pension. Did he have SBP is a question that needs to be asked? What about other insurance coverage in force? Who all knows that some insurance is in force? Does the wife know? Brother in laws, etc? The entire extended family could stand to benefit if the wife gets big insurance "jackpot". Was he healthy? If he was sick, he could have ordered the hit on himself, in order for the family to benefit?
I suggest you search for "military pension" and read from a valid website that explains what happens when the sponsor dies. I'm using my wife's account right now, as I'm retired and just so happened to look over at her screen while she was listening to this. The benefit STOPS. So, it's actually a HARDSHIP that gets created when the retiree dies. You could make the case about insurance payouts if the military retiree had one, but not about the pension itself. If a person is retirement age for SS benefits, that's a different scenario, in which case I believe that a percentage of the SS benefit goes to the spouse after the person receiving the benefit dies. And that works both ways, whether it's a man or a woman who dies, as long as they're married.Next, without knowing the details of this person's relationship, you're making a lot of assumptions, and I can tell you about assumptions. They make an xxx out of you and me. Many American men who retire to the Philippines COMPLETELY understand supporting a spouse's family to some reasonable amount. I'll be in the same situation. We bought land that will go to her family after my wife dies (a non citizen can't own land), and we're building a home there that will FAR exceed anything her family is used to. It's also a home that will have the bedrooms for her entire family, including brothers and their wives and children.Next, if you are away from the cities and into barrios, families tend to be more religious and have strong bonds, and it would be incredibly rare for such a group to fathom the killing of one of the family, for which a spouse would be. Now, maybe if you totally ignore Philippine culture when you move there and have a spouse there, it will cause tension, but I still don't see that one pushing a person's mind to thinking murder is OK in a place that tends to be Catholic. Finally, if the man got married to a very dubious woman with a dubious family, he had to be pretty naïve or pretty blind to not see it. Yes, if you marry the wrong person, all kinds of bad can happen, including in the US, Canada, or pretty much anywhere else in the world. My experience in the Philippines, which is mostly only visiting big cities, but spending most my time with my wife's family, which is once again in the barrio has in NO WAY given me the idea that life is cheap there. In fact it's quite the opposite and people seem genuinely kind and friendly, more so than anywhere else I've been. But, maybe you're right in this ONE instance.Other comments suggesting you need to be careful when dealing with money, such as going to the bank and making big withdrawals are correct. Just like in all countries, there are bad people looking to prey on others.
Will be interesting what the investigations will reveal. But you're right, lot of speculation going on. Speculation on my part by being retired after 30 years working for the Army as a civilian and coming to the Philippines for 20 years, being retired and living here for 3 years now. The only white guy around a bunch of Muslims, a canary in the coal mine...lol. You're a better man than I, Gunga-din, when I had my house built here in Maguindanao I only had them put in 2 bedrooms, I don't want her extended family sitting on their asses in my house. I've already had to ban 3 of her brothers from the house, for making themselves too much at home here; helping themselves to whatever is in the fridge without asking, putting their feet on the furniture, taking stuff without asking, not keeping the gate/doors closed, using washing machine without asking, petty stuff like that...I've had to set some boundaries. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you".
Citadel Barker, thank you Mr. Catadel Banker, i am a Filipina, it is unfair to the wife what others had assumed , i am Filipina myself, when we love, WE LOVE! period. Our husbands and children are the center of our Universe, there's no such thing as plotting to assassinate your husband to have pension. When our husband die, we die. When i my husband died 2010 never in my wildest dream i will marry again. Please RESPECT the grieving wife...
Well, it happens but could also happen in the US. Could be any number of things from the wife to a feud to just random. Seems unlikely random but I am sure he was happy while he was here. We could all die at any time anywhere.
Seems unlikely that he would have taken an illegal firearm with him for a morning run concealed in his light running clothes. It is nice to buy a gun in the US and if it is a deal breaker and/or you are scared to go to the Philippines then don't go. No problem.
G'day Mate. I'm an Aussie and looking to move to the Philippines and I'm also ex-military and have heard many stories about scams and murder. I'm trying to find out if they still have Bail Bondsman and Bounty Hunters in the Philippines. I've not been able to find things on the internet due to not in English and hoping to chase my dreams and have fun while doing this. Look forward to hearing from you
I sure like the format of your vlog! It's simple but informative. The pictures in the background of local life are a plus. Did you take the pictures yourself? Keep up the good work, I enjoyed it much!
I think they are more forgiving, a good friend of mine has lived there since 2005. They get jealous but their Buddhist upbringing I think makes them more forgiving.
Feel sorry for that old man, I came from Bohol. We people need to know our surroundings, people that we deal with and also our actions. Always safe than never.
My sympathies to Mr. Weig's family and I have high hopes that justice will be served.Nobody deserves to be murdered like that. Especially here in the Philippines or anywhere.
Okay where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him? Someone who is jogging early in the morning is not carrying anything of value worth killing for. It appears there was no robbery. Men on motorbike is an assassination. That is the modem operandi in the Philippines. I have an Asian friend who lives in Maine. She told me of a Filipina who is married to an American there. The woman told her that if she was back in the Philippines she would have had her husband killed already. She is not happy with his behavior. An example: my friend called to speak to the Filipina one day. Instead of the husband saying she is not there but he will give her the message she called he decided to lambaste her and other Asians. He asked her if she is on welfare. Then he went on to attack Asians in Maine saying they are all on welfare and are freeloaders. So base on a snippet of conversation I can imagine the disgust his wife has for him. I read that words should be used to edify which is to build up not to bring people down. People should be aware if they attract negative behavior.
He most likely abuses her maybe mental and physical. There was a lady from the Philippines I used to chat with she also lived in Maine. She was married but moved back to the Philippines and left her husband.Philippines is a poor country yet she chooses to move back to a poor country than live in Maine with her husband.
@Andolini, for Gods sake why did you say that, he did not do anything wrong. That could have been you, DEAD. Think what you are saying before you say it.
Guido DeMaio quick visit should be OK. Don't piss off anyone in foreign countries or even in your own town. If you are married and living in province in phillipines, your safety totally depends on your wife's family
Just behave well...nothing bad will happen to you. My dad is italian..he stayed for many years in the Philippines and he always feel safe evrytime he is visiting the country
Gosh I thought Bohol is safer than the crowded places, poor man, RIP to you American hero. These foreigners just want to live a quiet simple life thats why they've chosen Bohol as their retirement home and make do of whatever they can to improve their lives in Not so perfect place. Why cant these haters let them be? These people contribute to the economy of Bohol and slowly making the barren land more attractive, productive and sort of westernised with all those newly built beautiful houses. Whats wrong with these people? Is it jealous local men or is it greedy wives who cant wait to be widowed and bang! Women out there; you get the best of both world from these foreigners providing you everything you never had before, can you not be human enough to compensate the love and luxuries by being faithful? These men have a different culture and they talk straight talk no lies and Paawa Effect Acts. After all what can a lay about local men give but turn you into a baby factories whether you like it or not. Then love turns sour when 7 or more children cant go to school because his daily earnings of P300.00 cant support the needs. Then you have to look for a job as an OFW and leave your children whilst he enjoys his life gets another gullible woman pregnant and neglect your kids in his care. These foreigners know how to look after women; making sure that when they are gone the wife is comfortable. What about the local men what do they provide? Nothing but loads of illegitimate kids and heartaches; they only only look after their balls period! Sorry for would be bashers but if you read thoroughly I said Lay About men meaning Standby with Barkadas . You can only find few responsible local men educated or not; their main problem is Libog; the weak mind is unable to control their Lust! Whilst the women's problem is being gullible; they have no Self Assertiveness and say no, they full for the sweet lies; Puera Las Buenas women.
You are correct but please....Stay focused,, stick to the issue and do not generalize and make sweeping statement on a specific event you are not even certain of. Granting it's your opinion but then again, other people would see it differently and if you are not satisfied with what you see then you have all the right to stay away from it and leave... Peace to you
I am a filipino but I cursed those fucking shit filipinos who killed the poor retired US soldier!!! Putang ina kayo sana mamatay din lahat ng mga lahi nyo mga salbahi, magtrabaho kayo ng marangal ng hindi kayo nagiging kriminal, makarma sana buong pamilya nyo mga killers!!!
It's very scary to live in the Philippines now. In the past 2 years gun homicides rose up to over 16,000. That does not include the almost 4000 killed in police raids or those killed in military rebel encounters. That's pure gun homicides. It used to be under 3000 gun homicides and less than 500 police related gun deaths. The sad thing is that politicians from both sides are using it against President Duterte or in favor of Duterte. No one is interested to solve that problem. They just want to debate on it.
It was a hit. If he had no enemies it was his wife and/or one of the family. Perhaps he refused to support some family member? To collect insurance and all property. No one goes out at 5am cruising a remote neighborhood to kill some random person. They were waiting for this man. It was the wife and family..
don't forget the communist rebellion still very active in philippines see can see them in the streets of manila as peaceful militants but actually acts as there propaganda tools
It's not really safe for a foreigner to be alone specially early in the morning and nobody else around on a place like Baclayon. If he was jogging with a buddy it will be a different story. One thing I can tell you about Filipinos is jealousy is on their blood. They get jealous that you have a lot of money and you're living well, and for this they will kill you. My advice for foreigners is don't go alone, make sure you have your bodyguard when you go out.
Lived in the Philippines while doing an advanced degree, just prior to the Duterte administration. Ned, I enjoy your good-natured videos of you and your family, but there is a lesson to be learned here. While the Philippines has enormous potential, the political instability and corruption make this an unwise place to settle. There is no integrity in either the police or judicial systems for some time now, and with Duterte, both rule of law and due process are nonexistant. The fact remains, that any foreigner can be arrested, killed or executed at any time for no reason at all - by gangs, individuals or even the government. Ned you are not immortal. There are many other safer options for anglos who wish to live abroad. Ned, I don't know you, but you and your family could live similarly but MUCH safer in Thailand for example. I hope you will consider moving, if not for yourself, then for your family. In the meantime take care and stay safe.
i can only say that foreigners should be very cautious while living or visiting there. there is so much jealousy towards foreigners because foreigners are perceived to be rich. be careful and trust no one.
i just passed by bureau of immigration in dumaguete last week i looked inside it was full i saw NOBODY who looked wealthy ! most looked like homeless people and even at 60 that their mother still dresses them
Majority of filipinos don't hate expats, but the 5% population of muslims in the country is where all hatred against foriegners and christian filipinos come from, especially those extremists, just my theory could be a lot of other reasons. I hope justice for him
Islamophobic views don't help. Most Muslims have nothing against ex-pats. Many Filipinos don't like US Military men - which is understandable. I hope the murderer/s are caught and face justice.
Metal Guru Most Muslims have nothing against expats but few Muslims have hatred towards foreigners, and those few Muslims are in the south. It's not islamophobic....it's risk assessment.
Given the unusual circumstances and lack of a clear motive (routine morning jog, unusual early motorcycle traffic, execution style murder, not carrying money, etc.), would suggest that this was a contract hit. The picture suggests that his wife was 40+ years old. So he wasn't married to a young immature girl who would obviously only be in it for the money alone. Being married only 4 years but already having 3 kids, suggests that all the kids might not have been his biological children. There would probably be little or no financial incentive for an older average-looking filipina with three kids to put out a hit on her relatively wealthy pensioner husband. He would probably be worth far more to her alive, than if dead. So, unless the wife is just plain nuts, or he was running around banging everything that moved, the wife seems less likely to be the perp. Any murder investigation should almost certainly focus on the wife first. Then follow leads involving any recent business transactions, property disputes, personal grudges, marital infidelity, etc. It is likely that a family member, neighbor, business associate, etc., already knows why he was killed. However, the article states, "Police dispatch a tracker team to find the perpetrators." HA! The odds of tracking down the actual hitman directly are infinitesimally small. Plus, even if they were able to find the actual trigger man, that will not lead to the real murderer, the person who hired the hit. In the Philippines, there is an abundant supply of contract killers you can hire for as little as 10,000 pesos. This alone shows that Filipino investigators are not capable of investigating this murder. This murder could be solved but it would likely take serious or extraordinary effort and substantial resources - neither of which are available. Therefore, as with the vast majority of murders of their own Filipino citizens, local authorities will NOT be likely to commit sufficient time and resources to the investigation and it will go unsolved. The only way it could be solved is via a highly paid professional private investigator and he would be putting his own life at risk. Lining the pockets of local government investigators could also net some results, BUT they might just pick some random street thug to blame it on and pocket the money quickly. Ned is right! Life is cheap in the Philippines!!! If you plan to live or retire in the Philippines, it's always a good idea to make sure that you're always worth more to the people around you ONLY if you're still alive. In all your dealings, personal or business, NEVER create a financial incentive for someone to kill you. Also, as Ned taught so expertly in previous videos, always practice Pakikisama.
Hey Ned the Canadian your are talking about that was killed. He was from my home town of Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada.About 8 hours drive from Boston.
There could be third party involved here goes for his early morning run a habit he does that his wife knew then shot 4 times to make sure his dead.Police look closely to the wife she probably know more some women can very deceitful they can have a lover coming in out in thier house without their husband knowing about it because they tell thier husband it's thier cousin esp. If thier married to a foreigner much older than them.I hope she has nothing to do with her husband death. There was a Filipina convicted in Angeles city a while back for hiring her lover to kill her husband.
If you are a Foreigner marrying a Filipina the things you must bear in mind are the following: Do background check;Make sure you are marrying an educated woman or mostly professionals;Dont live in an area where hidden or far away from the suburban area.Consider the facilities around you like hosp.Safety and security; If the girl was not exposed to traveling abroad make sure to explain what are your expectations.Tell her to make the family understand its not an american culture to support her family. If she wants to help her family she should work once she goes with you to US or your homeland. She cand send her salary.Always have separate account once you are married...have 1 common checking account where both put money into it.And each have another individual accounts.Make her understand privacy are very important to you.Make sure she understands privacy like She doesnt open your mails. Be realistic dont marry young sexy girls for beauty alone as they are mostly young immature and for sure will use you.Not all are like that but most Filipinas knew US culture only tell them your expectations.Dont go with the flow.Thanks...Dont show off in phils.Keep money or travel in travellers checks.
I think she’s involved in the murdered cuz of money , don’t give his pension to her .. poor old man , Don’t trust a Pinay wife especially if you are rich or retired...
Heart Jarden not only pinays.. it happened everywhere in this world. don't be being such stupid to gereralized after all. and I AM PROUD TO SAY THIS TO YOU DEAR.
Guys trust me even an American or foreigner is married to Filipina there is always hateful Filipino guys out there and they don’t care it’s about jealousy, jerks and prejudice like every other country there is always one like that. If he happen to do his run and encounter an addict or drunk that be it he may got robbed then killed him after. There is no inforce law in Phil’s these guys can be drinking all night long or high in drugs.
In the Philippines you should ask before you go. My wife has told me stories of people getting poisoned cause they did not like what they where doing in that place.
Speculation is what it is... To add to it... It sounds to me like a robbery gone bad... It may have been random, or the perps may have been casing it out for a while, noticing that the man took his morning adventure about the same time every morning... I'm sure it was at close quarters... Two rounds center mass, and 2 in the head... I am a veteran like you Ned... It is awful no matter who it was... God Bless him, and his family... Thanks for the report....
Blackcrow Walking: I started the paragraph with, "Speculation is what it is"... That is all we have (Speculation)... Are you living in the Philippines?? I am... That does not make me a professional detective... The key to this, is going to be motive... Most of the crimes involving expat's here are concerning money... Now execution could revolve around money to... The way I see this in my head is... The culprits were going to rob this fellow on a road where there is nobody to see the crime... Whatever caused them to shoot him, whether it be, he put up a fight, or simply told them he didn't have money on him, pissed them off enough to shoot him... He may have lived through the first 2 rounds in his chest, and they shot him again twice in the head... Dead men tell no tales... We will just have to wait, and see when the dust settles, if it does... Again, God Bless this man... He shouldn't have to lose his life for any amount of money or belongings... Take care Sir!!!
It kills me when other expats make RUclips videos saying how safe and nice the people are. Somebody needs to tell expats the cold hard truth than let them decide.
Don't overreact because of a killing. Jesus H. Christ. Do women and relatives not murder people in America or any other country? Do wives never murder their husbands in other countries? Do robberies never occur in other countries. Go away hater.
Well here's what needs to happen. We lost one of ours. Since it happened on foreign soil. The locals are not going to do anything but drag they're feet. We need to send our own people to turn up the volume. I guarantee they would not want the Presents of our military coming in. I salute you. May you R.I.P. sir.
its the same in US if the spouses died the first suspect is the wife or husband. i'm sure the police will check the wife first and if proving to be innocents then the look for more suspect. My Condolence to the family and i hope the police will find that killer before he killed another. Thank you Philippines dream.
As always Ned ,,,,,,thank you for your insights on ongoing matters in filipines,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Shawn,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Toronto Canada ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I am an American retired Air Force living in Angeles City Philippines for 15 year. I feel safer here than in the states. There are more crimes in Chicago including murders than the whole country of the Philippines. No matter were you live, use common sense about your safety and treat all people with respect and you will be fine.
Oh this is so sad. I used to think simple life in the province is the dream but with these kinds of news, I believe its better to be in areas where you won’t be singled out easily. Times are hard now but 20-30 years ago we seldom hear these kinds of news happening in Philippine provinces. So I guess, it’s better to stick to highly urbanized cities like Metro Manila (Makati & BGC areas) or Cebu. It’s easier to blend in there. Now I am even thinkin twice of settling in the province with my foreigner partner, I don’t wanna be widowed! 😢
Don't worry, they will find some "reason" he was killed, they always do. Violence against foreigners is very common, that is why everybody puts their wallet in the front pocket. They also carry their backpacks in front, so go ahead and hate, but it's the truth.
I don't even carry a wallet when I visit the Philippines. Any bulge in your pocket will gain undue attention. Never flash any cash and never wear any branded clothes...no jewelry or other valuables on your body. As an american you'll already stick out and filipinos will see and analyze you from 100 yards away.
Hmmm that's something's fishy.probably the wife has another man or her ex,and they both agreed to took his life for some reasons for their own interests.
Glenda, I don't really think that finding and marrying a Proffissional woman is that as significant. It is a plus of course. But, i believed it is more important that she knows what right from wrong, also a very trust worthy and a good decent woman, and most of all God fearing. Plenty of expat go to the Philippines to retired find a partner 20 or 30 years younger. In my opinion, nothing wrong with that as long as you make sure before you marry that person that she is worthy and truelly love you not just your pocket. Because you will end up with a big problem. I am also a Filipina but U S citizen living in the U S for 42 years I'm retired now, collecting my monthly benefits that I worked for 30 years have my own saving and checking account and also have joint checking account with my husband. When I came to the U S I was very naive and young, but I was determined to have good life, went back to school to better educate myself end up owning my own business for 25 years. I am now injoying the fruit of my labor and I can honestly say, God is good! I really believed determination can take you anywhere in you life.
why would any American choose to live in the Philippines with all the anti American attitude, especially from their murdering president! he was probably killed just because he was white and American.what a disgusting country...
Clueless comment! There is no hostility towards Westerners in The Philippines. The gentleman’s nationality had nothing to do with the murder. Here say is a terrible thing to spread....anywhere.
holy cow!!! another holy molly cow! Bohol doesn't represent all of the Philippine Islands you.... read!!! so you'll get educated on how many islands there are in the philippines! PEOPLE DIE.. regardless what country one maybe, if one is meant to die, one will die. It is just such a pity that things like this happens. but one thing is sure... getting murdered doesn't only happen in the Philippines! Your mouth is the crap hole!
I was born and raised in the Philippines but never been in some places in the Philippines because I am scared to go there. You have to used your commonsense 5:00 a.m. in the Philippines still very dark and jogging by himself he was a perfect target. Something is not right here. I didn't let my husband run around in the Philippines by himself either he was with me or accompanied by one of family member. I just want him to be safe than sorry.
They kill each other all time there my wife lives in midsayap and tells me that they shoot drug dealers and drug users because of money I’ve been there 3 times and had great times this happens every where you go even in Australia as you said in video just don’t piss of people or make a fool of yourself when u go out
Yeah I understand my wife tries to protect me from those types of people her best friends son was riding with his boss coming back from cockfighting and they got ambushed her friends son died a few days later so my wife is scared because they see westerners as walking money
I'm an American living in the PH. This place isn't that safe. Anyone that comes here I advise them to take place
Take place ?
What do you mean by take place ?
People anywhere get pissed off over small things and the victim has no idea.
A lot of Filipinos think all foreigners are rich, The truth is very different but when they see you going to the ATM or eating out they think you are rich so it gets round the area you live so not hard to see how you would become a target.
most foreigners are not rich
they live on small pension or sss
philippines is $$$ now
many things very expensive compared to usa
when do people send things from philippines ? never
always balik bayan from usa! because cheap and many products
the rich in philippines are indian 5/6 and chinoy businessman !
Well I am one foreigner who's not rich that's for sure, but that don't stop people following me up the road asking me for money.
99% of the squatters think I'm rich.! especially since I have running water with Chinese plumbing. .
2-k a month is rich to an average Filipino! That makes you a Millionaire over there!
@@larrycleave4199 Yeah Larry, I can relate...
No, I will retire in Cambodia instead and spend my dollars in a much safer country than yours or mine... the US.
Rene Robyn - Interesting that you laugh and find this tragic death and my reaction so amusing.
Rene Robyn - Your reply was a laugh... “HaHaHa” to my reaction to his brutal murder. I could care less what you think. You and your heartless comment mean nothing to me... really, hahaha!
Robbery???? I wouldn't expect a jogger to be carrying much cash or much of anything.
Set Up!
mike makuch Like what I said maybe inside job either Rose’s bf or relatives?
Karl Bryant - Probably. I’ve cancelled my plans to come back there to retire. Very sad.
i left the philippines due to safety concerns. i fear the criminals and police equally in rp. i sleep much better home in canada
You can get killed in canada as well.
Vitrix1130 are you on drugs? People get killed in usa for no reasons. Americans loved their guns.
Vitrix1130 you're likely to get killed in America than winning the lotto
art gamer. are you serious? i was born in the phil. lived in the us for more than 30 years before i came back here. living here for now till i get my moms property taken care off. its a lot safer in the us than here.
That's So Sad , Thanks for Sharing Ned , R.I.P. My Fellow Veteran .
You joked about it, but absolutely check the wife. Most likely played a part in the entire thing. The rest doesn't add up with regards to the location, time and obviously the killers had to know his schedule so they were fed the necessary inofrmation.
Typical Americans
Great original comment. Oh cupcake did you get a little butthurt? You win king of RUclips award for the day. Pathetic
J.C J.C. how. to .make pandesal
J.C J.C. Do you know his wife personally ? If not keep your biased opinions to yourself you dont know How loyal Filipino wives are why would she kill her Husband losing her income
LOL I know plenty about Filipina wives. Never be worth more dead than alive is rule number one.
And I will post my opinion any damn time I please.
Drew Cummins Isn't that TRUE also with AMERICAN women?
M factors" or Matandang Mayaman, Madaling Mamatay (Old, Rich, and Soon to die).
Actually he may not be rich. but they believe he is..
Your wrong doc, she gets his military pension, if she has a American green card or US citizenship then she can claim 50% of his social security pension if she is a senior citizen. She also gets social security money for minor children so don’t forget that.
Insurance money. Too, coverage starts dropping off at age 64, so 63 is good timing...
Totally uncalled for - whatever the circumstances! Rest in Peace Sir , and Thank You for your Service.
In Mindanao you could hire a hitman for $60
Definitely an assassination.
One week ago: "Beijing claims US warship 'violated' its sovereignty by sailing near Scarborough Shoal in South China Sea"
zoso Yes
whitey george not all Muslims are like that jeez.I grew up in a community were Muslims are my classmates and they're one of the nicest people.Dont be too consumed on what you see in media cause not everything is true.
zoso - Silencer or suppressor? Not likely. No one “chose” to remember hearing anything most likely.
Be careful in those provinces guys. Eye's watching every move you make.
The wife should be investigated.I don’t think she has no knowledge about the murder.
I like your new format with small window. Good info thanx for taking the time to educate us on the Philippines.
I wanted to walk down a street near the house in the Philippines my wife said do not go there it is not a good street I always take her advice. Ask before you go there so you know what to expect.
65)
FYI: TWO rounds to the Heart and TWO rounds to the Head IS A DEFINITE message...duh!
Keep us updated! Keep safe! Stay away from trouble..
How do you stay away from trouble? Please share with us, what was the retired Colonel doing to create "trouble"? Oh, he was a foreigner... and yes I have been many times.
A Colonel? that's a lot of pension money!
The first people to investigate are always the family. Though in the PI he might just have offended someone, but this was done for a reason and it is usually money.
I found his mother's obituary. He was raised, and his family lived in Kathryn, ND .
Thanks, Greg.
Been here for 28 years now. Well said life is cheap in filipines!
You mean LIVING is cheap?
@@gregb3957 both
Ok, so do you feel safe ?
I too believe that the wife had him assassinated. To me based on what you read it's obvious that they cased him for a while to learn his habits. And also they shot him twice in the chest and then twice in the head. They took the time to make sure he was dead. I wonder what kind of life insurance policy he had. Life is cheap in the Philippines and so is murder.
Thanks Ned. Sad lose for this soldier.
Lived there for years never any troubles.
What does that prove? Perhaps you were lucky?
@@johnnypastrana6727 perhaps he has many friends and they know he's not rich.
Has anything in your part of the philippines had similar things like this happen? How safe is your city/town?
Sounds that you really them both huh?
Cory Risseeuw in the us you can buy a gun.
Mike Mcbeth Didn't you know you can also buy guns in Philippines?
Seems unlikely that he would have taken an illegal firearm with him for a morning run concealed in his light running clothes. It is nice to buy a gun in the US and if it is a deal breaker and/or you are scared to go to the Philippines then don't go. No problem.

Ned, maybe you should consider Thailand. The safest I have ever felt.
And better food!!!
Oh ,YES!!
And Thai women are not so jealous. Filipinas get mad if you look at another woman. Thai women will point to a good looking woman if they see one.
I think they are more forgiving, a good friend of mine has lived there since 2005. They get jealous but their Buddhist upbringing I think makes them more forgiving.
Hehe as if they thai people will like them.
Hey Ned, thanks for sharing. Interesting story but sad.
Feel sorry for that old man, I came from Bohol. We people need to know our surroundings, people that we deal with and also our actions. Always safe than never.
His wife should be the first person the cops look at.
Justin H that is always an SOP
Oh so because he said some tacky words he deserves violence?
He most likely abuses her maybe mental and physical. There was a lady from the Philippines I used to chat with she also lived in Maine. She was married but moved back to the Philippines and left her husband.Philippines is a poor country yet she chooses to move back to a poor country than live in Maine with her husband.

I am pleased with ur thoughts

florence london also happens anywhere in the world
You are correct but please....Stay focused,, stick to the issue and do not generalize and make sweeping statement on a specific event you are not even certain of.
Any updates on who did this or why?
don 5 weeks already and ive heard nothing
!
in usa natalie wood drowned 35 years ago and police are still
looking into it !
Uncle Ruckus the day after natalie Wood died somebody told me it had been solved....Q..what sort of wood doesn’t float? A...Natalie Wood
Was this murder in Baclayon, Bohol ever solved?
It was a hit. If he had no enemies it was his wife and/or one of the family. Perhaps he refused to support some family member? To collect insurance and all property. No one goes out at 5am cruising a remote neighborhood to kill some random person. They were waiting for this man. It was the wife and family..
Stay safe there, Ned.
BOOM BOOM,,,,OLD FARTS AND YOUNG GIRLS,,,COME OVER BRING YOUR MONEY,,,,
His wife is not young, I doubt she did it as the mother of his children. Maybe a Muslim hit if they knew he was ex military.
Highly probable!
don't forget the communist rebellion still very active in philippines see can see them in the streets of manila as peaceful militants but actually acts as there propaganda tools
RIP
NPA is not known for attacking civilian foreigners. Not their modus operendi.
not true many of them pretend to be robin hood. I have many experience of this in my city before. they will even kill you if don't give money them.
Wow that's scary I followed 4 foreigners vloggers from Bohol, the Ahazze tribe,10 minutes Joe,owl blind and the guy from Australia
My heart goes to this american soldier died in a very horrific way, I hope and pray that whoever is the killer will caught as soon as possible.
Sad news and condolences to the family also . Stay safe there Mate .
How long have you been residing there?
i can only say that foreigners should be very cautious while living or visiting there. there is so much jealousy towards foreigners because foreigners are perceived to be rich. be careful and trust no one.
i just passed by bureau of immigration in dumaguete last week
i looked inside
it was full
i saw NOBODY who looked wealthy !
most looked like homeless people
and even at 60 that their mother still dresses them
Savvy Mi yes jealousy very big here but most foreigners r not so well to do and what they got was earned by a lifetime of blood sweat n tears
Thanks for this one Ned...
So sad...be very safe..

Pakikisama for real. Thanks, man.
Ned, do you carry a gun when you travel, or do you keep a gun at home?

If you are a Foreigner marrying a Filipina the things you must bear in mind are the following:
Do background check;Make sure you are marrying an educated woman or mostly professionals;Dont live in an area where hidden or far away from the suburban area.Consider the facilities around you like hosp.Safety and security; If the girl was not exposed to traveling abroad make sure to explain what are your expectations.Tell her to make the family understand its not an american culture to support her family.
What r the certain areas to avoid, I'm planning a trip there this summer. Is it safe to go there?
Thank you Ned!
omg, your new subbie here thanks for sharing that info, you take care always
is bohol island safe for forighners or not safe cause i was thinking of planing to visit the beach there?
thx for sharing
I never know about this news until this video popped up on my feeds. Thank you for sharing Sir! A new subbie here🙋 God bless and stay safe!
PNP investigating doesn't inspire much confidence. Unless they were in the direct vicinity of a crime its probably not getting solved.
@@Orleanstx221 Yeah, druggies don't care who they kill as long as they get their fix.
Not when they are dumbass Shabu/Crack heads... I thought of that to... Like I said, it is just speculation...
Go away hater.
chosen_one1 It is out here, but people do not care.
Any updates on this case? Thanks.
Well here's what needs to happen. We lost one of ours. Since it happened on foreign soil. The locals are not going to do anything but drag they're feet. We need to send our own people to turn up the volume. I guarantee they would not want the Presents of our military coming in. I salute you. May you R.I.P. sir.
So sad ,they said Bohol is a safe place for retirement .thanks Sir for sharing.
Good vid Ned, thanks..
Walay sapayan.
its the same in US if the spouses died the first suspect is the wife or husband. i'm sure the police will check the wife first and if proving to be innocents then the look for more suspect.
The truth is not always pleasant when you're having fun.
Hmmm that's something's fishy.probably the wife has another man or her ex,and they both agreed to took his life for some reasons for their own interests.
acquizer buech hmmm it's an assumption. Get the real facts don't assume.
So sad to here the news...watching from Malaysia.
most cases it would be to rob someone this one is a planned assassination…with silencers thinks its not a locals that did this..
em forty could be some expats he knew not the local one. It's like a professional who knew everything about guns.
Wonder if bohol has calmed down in 2023?
Ned, much much better internet and electrical infrastructure in Thailand, and the food
3 kids lost their father so sad, anybody know how old they was? Hope the wife can suport the family now
they were not his
step children
what i read
Sad story. Rest in Peace.
Hi mate the place you are living now can you tell us more about it? is it a good place for expats to go and do you have an income over there? cheers
why would any American choose to live in the Philippines with all the anti American attitude, especially from their murdering president! he was probably killed just because he was white and American.what a disgusting country...
Your mouth is the crap hole!
your a fucking idiot
ignorant and arrogant comment...btw are there no americans killing asians in your place?
I was born and raised in the Philippines but never been in some places in the Philippines because I am scared to go there. You have to used your commonsense 5:00 a.m. in the Philippines still very dark and jogging by himself he was a perfect target. Something is not right here. I didn't let my husband run around in the Philippines by himself either he was with me or accompanied by one of family member. I just want him to be safe than sorry.
Its a great day for a motor car race
(in a scottish accent)
Gosh!! Be careful really careful.
Oh my god .Rip for him.

Oh never go to the atm by ur self and go where’s a security guard and all ways get ur wife to go to the bank
