The way China structure their athletes is pretty smart. Now that you mentioned Tian Tao as a mentor/guide to Liu, this can be seen in a variety of sports as the younger men/women to take on the #1 spot once their best athletes start to fall off from their primes. As much as having your original #1 go against the top competitors to beat them out of having to battle them in the finals, if not that, wear them down physically and mentally.
the name actually originates from the chinese national games where the english commenters on the stream didnt know his name but we just called him gigachad as a joke lol
I believe that was Yilin, aka Squat Jerk Journalist, along with two others.

Yep, I was in the stream when someone said it It was because when they zoomed in on his face, he had a shovel for a jaw, and that dyed blond hair that made him look like an actual super saiyan.

@@icedwhitechocolatemochafra9851 of course they're tested but it's not like it actually does anything especially for countries like China, I'm sure if you retroactively tested every single sample from the 80's and 90's every single one of them would test positive.
@Iced white chocolate mocha frappucino tested only means they were tested, tested does not mean drug free. But also, what are you testing for? Maybe tested simply is testing for cocaine and meth, but not steroids.
@@icedwhitechocolatemochafra9851 they do get tested for PED, its quite easy to cycle off and hold strength for a bit. Then hopping back on once testing clears.

his the next generation of chinese weighlifters, i still want to watch Lu Xiaojun even if the guy is already in his 40s, Lu's technique how he squats is a pleasure to watch, always calm, same goes with tian tao and Shi Zhiyong even though he does tend to scream a lot.

Tian came back to the national team with the intention of going to/winning Paris 2024 so it wouldn’t make sense for him to quit and step into a coaching role (like lu) at this point.

I think most squat jerkers choose to squat jerk because they cannot progress in split jerks, it strongly depends on morphology of liter

Height average of China I feel limits chinese weightlifters from becoming dominant in the heavier categories (mid). Avg height is 5'7" You have a point that China is populous. Who knows
usually rural areas are the ones who still send their kids to these olympic programs. the wealthier areas with average heights similar to western countries (around 5'10" or so) would rather their kids get higher paying jobs. from what I hear the pool of candidates are shrinking, maybe a dozen or 2 everytime they go out scouting.
@@mmbicoshake The average heights in China are shooting up now due to better nutrition and pre-natal care. Just visit any Chinese city nowadays and notice the difference.
Most of the kids in the next generation are closer to 5'11" and 6'0" so don't be surprised we see more heavy talents in weightlifting.

Chinese people are not that big in general. They won't be able to dominate the bigger weight classes.
They will in future weights and heights are increasing and so is their milk and meat consumption despite being allergic to it They will soon maybe within 50 years

For most people Lu's positive test didn't provide new information and so the weightlifting landscape hasn't really changed.
