The location that is now D Asign Source, was a Scottys building supply which sold building material.
While i was building my house in the 90s, i had a guy who lived in one of those twin one story homes on Key Colony beach who worked for me. It was a waterfront home, visable on your right as you drive across the causeway to Key Colony beach.
As i recall it fronted on 9th Street? anyway it was in very good condition and he wanted $135.000 for it.
I should have bought it and sold the one on Duck Key. It would have been a perfect vacation home/ rental property.
I could have also bought a dry lot home a half block from where i was building my home on East Seaview Dr. in excellent condition with a small apartment on the ground floor. $150.000
Hey, you two. Glad to see your smiling faces again. I know I have missed a couple of your videos because of various things like my laptop screen popping out of its shell, doing something to my knee, and dealing with that for the last three weeks, and I graduated from Colonoscopy school. 🤣 That is what my doctor told me when I came to afterward. 75 is his cut off age as long as he finds nothing at that point. That was good news. I hate the prep for those tests.
I have been keeping an eye on things down there and hoping I will be in FL next April. Things have gotten worse again in our area, so I am trying to stay in as much as possible. I had to have the Covid test before my colonoscopy and passed for now. We are all complaining about getting fat and looking older just sitting around. I envy you and yet I wish you all the sunshine you can soak up down there. Just catch a few for me please. 💛💜

whats the weather like right now as far as temps and humidity?
A little breezy and stormy... clouds off and on but temps this week are around 80-85. Things stay pretty warm here through the winter, we'll see a few cool days in December and January in the high 60's but most of the winter will be sunny and 75!
At what elevation should a home be for the cheapest insurance in the Keys?
Every property is different, but homes that are on stilts 8 or 9 feet off the ground are usually the cheapest flood insurance.
$189k What a bargin until you buy flood insurance.
True in some cases, but a lot of those houses are "Pre FIRM" and insurance can be fairly reasonable.
I've heard horror stories about older properties like these not being able to make *any improvements* unless they basically raised the entire property (either by bringing in fill or building a stilt house) to meet modern flood-standards. What is the reality?
Yes, there are situations where that could be true, but as you can see this whole neighborhood is filled with these homes that have been standing since the 50's and 60's and the homes are simply remodeled and fixed up. This happens much more often than a home being so damaged that it must be torn down and completely rebuilt.
