This is America’s Biggest UAV - Meet the RQ-4 GLOBAL HAWK
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 май 2024
- The RQ-4 Global Hawk is a high-altitude, long-endurance, remotely piloted aircraft with an integrated sensor suite that provides global all-weather, day or night intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability. Northrop Grumman’s GLOBAL HAWK is one of, if not the world’s premier surveillance and reconnaissance unmanned aircraft system-and the Air Force’s go-to eye in the sky.
In the RQ-4 name, the "R" is the Department of Defense designation for Reconnaissance and "Q" means unmanned aircraft system. The "4" refers to the series of purpose-built remotely piloted aircraft systems.

The Global Hawk was designed by Ryan Aeronautical and the first five or so were built in their plant in San Diego. I know this because I watched them being put together right next to my workstation where I was building tail assemblies for the AH-64 Apache helicopter. Northrop Grumman acquired the Global Hawk when they purchased Ryan in the early 2000s.
That is freaking awesome. 😎
General Atomics builds Predator UAVs in San Diego at their Scripps-Poway facilities.
And Marilyn Monroe worked for Ryan in WW2 building drones…
People think drones are novel…

The Newer Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel Stealth drone that was deployed in 2007 operated by the USAF and CIA is probably my favorite UAV for reconnaissance. Although it’s endurance is low at a flight time of 6 hours with a top altitude of 50,000 feet is a great carrier launched UAV. The Upgrade to the Global HAWK, the MQ-20 Predator, developed from the reaper and launched in 2009 with a cruise speed of between 402 MPH and 460 MPH at 50,000 feet for 19 hours with an internal weapons grade with 3.5 tons of bombs and 6 external hard points with a total carrying capacity of 6.5 tons. Extra points for mentioning metric units. Thanks.
This should be regulated and mandatory :)
While at that,it is incorrect to mention altitude in Kilometers. Altitude should be measured in thousands of meters, just like we don’t measure altitude in miles but in thousands of feet. Kilometers should be used for horizontal distance.

If you watch on flightradar24 there's always a GH flying loops over the black sea to watch Ukrain during the day .. But at night it flies back to Italy.
Yes it can, and does operate at night. But, night also brings the advantage of darkness to the equation, and thus the ability to utilize even more advanced and highly classified equipment...
It is usually flying loops along the border with Ukraine whilst in Polish or Romanian airspace
@@deang5622 Not really, these days the sensors are so good that there's no need to fly along the border to see far into a country. The Global Hawk ALWAYS flies circles over the black sea below Sevastopol to see far into Ukraine ..
It probably just goes back for the food.
On June 20, 2019, Iran's integrated system of Air Defense Forces shot down a United States RQ-4A Global Hawk BAMS-D surveillance drone with a man portable surface-to-air missile over the Strait of Hormuz.Iran and the U.S. differ on where the incident actually occurred. Iranian officials said that the drone violated their airspace.
i remember
That wasn't with man portable missle, actually a defense system
The air defense system that shot down this advanced UAV on that date was made by Iran and was old, same date. which was easily identified and easily targeted and shot down, in 2011 the RQ170 drone for the CIA organization of the USA and Iran was able to hack it and put it on the ground.
Iranians know this drone very well.
Wow! Awesome Aircraft
I’m fairly sure that my father’s department had some involvement in the Global Hawk program, but for obvious reasons, he never could divulge information relating to what his responsibilities were. For what the GH was designed for, it has done its job very well.12’000 NM is a long distance to travel, that’s for sure.
US will still lose all the wars it creates, regardless of the tech.
Make a guy want to do summersaults !! What great platforms these Global Hawks are! I'm surprised there isn't a Harrier Jump Jet or Osprey type or Chinook type that can deposit munitions and armament where needed. The controls commands already exist. Wire up the servos and deliver Howitzers and the ammo anywhere. A self destruct means; like I'm pretty sure exists on the Global Hawks; So no one gets the mother boards or whatever should work to eliminate copy threat. Fly them in groups with about, 5 Artificial High Radar and Heat Profile, decoys.
Aww it’s absolutely adorable 🥰
What a beauty.
Thank you very much for the Metric measurements!!! 😃

Wooden wheel chocks are simple, cheap, and effective
You rather expensive titanium chocks?
Well having been a professional pilot for almost 5 decades, wooden chocks are the way to go. They do the job. I don't recall ever seeing anything other that the ones made from wood. Hell, I use to fly a helicopter with wooden rotor blades. No time limit on those.
@@a1c3c3u 100%
It's curious not to see upright wingtips mounted. It would give the RQ-4 15% longer range as the drag of the vortex which is now prevalent at its wingtips, would be minimised. Very very strange for such a sophisticated craft.
Does not need wing tip because it’s a Laminar flow wing just like. The P-51 mustang give it great range I know i built over 25 from the start and into flight test from San Diego to Edwards AFB…
@@thomasgripley6653 Reallly? I never heard of that, but I give it to you. You are more expert, apparently. Thanks anyway.
amazing!
Those flight suits and jackets are super clean.
I was just gonna say. Check out the guy at the keyboard wearing a leather jacket. I bet he thought about getting a white scarf to go with it...
Global Hawk is supposedly not survivable in, or near, an air space defended by a modern near peer adversary with an advanced SAM systems, but USAF somehow manages to fly the U-2 Dragon lady, an aircraft that was shown to be incapable of executing missions near an advanced enemy's territory, more than 60 years ago... WTF.... Why is Global Hawk suddenly obsolete?
But anyway, since USAF apparently decided to retire and replace the Global Hawk, I expect them to be replaced by the shadowy RQ-180 in larger numbers, or some completely new air frame that's so freaking stealthy it can hover above the Red square not being detected while reading the paper held by Vlad himself.
its obsolete because the weapons manufactures lobby congress to buy new ones.
Both platforms require total air dominance in order to used in hostile areas. The Global Hawk's ability to loiter for over 24 hrs. is great, but it's ISR capabilities aren't that great. If they're using the same old Raytheon Electro-Optical camera, then it's imagery leaves a lot to be desired. It's SIGINT ability is very limited. Someone compared it to a Bearcat. An upgraded alternative is definitely needed. The U-2's loitering limit is about 12 hrs., Due to pilot fatigue. It's ISR ability is far superior to the Global Hawk. Both complement one another. Use of such platforms means satellites don't have to be repositioned. IMHO, I don't think the future UAVs will have anywhere near the payload capability of the U-2 and, consequently, will not provide better Intel.
It is obsolete because one was shot down by one of Iran's older sam systems back in 2019 when it was hovering near Iranian airspace.
The reason why the Global Hawke might announced as obsolete is because the US airforce might have a better model and need some disinformation out there.🇦🇺🇬🇧🇺🇸
The U2 flies at over 77,000 feet altitude out of range of most SAMs.
Looks like a faceless plane
