  • We're excited to launch the fourth, and final, in our 2021 series of Shetland food heritage films: reestit mutton!
These four videos shine a spotlight on centuries of culinary history which are still part of everyday Shetland life.
In this short film, Karl Simpson gives us a history of reestit mutton, a staple of the Shetland diet. Steven Johnson of the Scalloway Meat Co. Ltd shows us how reestit mutton is made and Pat Shaw shows us how to make a delicious pot of reestit mutton soup.
Huge thanks to Liz Musser and Jj Jamieson for film production, and to Karl, Steven and Pat for starring in this film.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Taste of Shetland!

I mean, come on. This is a fascinating short film and deserves far more views and likes. Hopefully there will be more videos on Shetland and traditional food! Mutton is a delicious meat, I prefer it to lamb and if you can, buy it in quantity - you can get half a mutton for between £50 - £60 if you look around and it's fantastic
