I've been a major Mötley fan since age 9 (1984). I appreciated them through the best of times- TFFL, SATD, TOP, Girls3, DF- the latter of which was rather overrated in my humble opinion), and the worst of times- Gen Swine, NT, multiple greatest hits releases. You name it, I blindly supported, and defended, it. Truth be told they haven't had a kick-ass, original, release since Bitter Pill and Enslaved, from 1998's Greatest Hits. New Tattoo boasted Hollywood Ending, and the title track, New Tattoo. Which grew on me, and I rather enjoy in a "true fan" sorta way. I bought each release, and greatest hits, classic hits, complete hits, crucial hits, books, good God, you name it, I bought it up. I was a diehard, if not obsessed, fan.... All that jazz, to say this: I feel entitled to the right of my opinion, and my opinion is: Dogs Of War is of the same stock as Generation Swine. I can say I bowed out of Cruehead fandom, with their back peddling the (obvious promotion stunt) contract to never tour again, following their "All good things must come to an end" Tour of 2014 - 15. I should have given up in 1994, with the hiring of Corabi. As they had always bragged that they would disband before playing with anyone besides the original four. And that they would go out with a boom, not fizzle. Well, fizzle they have. Fizzle they did. Right around the 2000 mark.

All I know is that there have been countless rides in the car or just cleaning my house that I have been blasting there music and it makes me feel good. That’s the job of music to make you feel and no one can tell you how to feel when your listening to music
Hey Michael...your despise of Motley Crue humors me LOL. I listened to the new song just now and definitely can tell the John 5 influence here as Rob Zombie and even Godsmack feel to it. I will need to track down Micks album. Keep the good work coming ....and don't forget to add Molly Hatchet to your list of no OGs but still tour.
Hey Michael I subscribed. I gotta say thank you very much for showing what's left of humanity out there and not being a hater. I am a really die hard Crue fan and I do appreciate the honesty. Unlike other review channels that are not serious (objective) on their work, you show you are to be valued as a reviewer. I appreciate your work and thanks for covering the Crue!
I owned Shout At The Devil on cassette for two weeks, then sold it. It was easy to see them for the frauds that they were. All the way back in ‘84. I got $4.00 for the cassette and used the dough to buy Black Sabbath’s Born Again. Worthy trade off.
John 5 has so much talent the rest of the band should thank their Lucky stars that he agreed to replace Mars. I wasn’t surprised at all that they would write new music with an artist like John 5 joining the band.
When you think about it no band like Mötley Crüe were geniuses musically. They were products of their time of what was popular in those years just like the 60s bands were popular and 70s bands were popular and marketed for their time period. I believe the term artist is used much to loosely today.
Good review and I agree, not all that bad of a song and I haven't really liked anything they've done since the 94 self titled album. Nothing though will ever top Shout At The Devil and Too Fast For Love. RIP to Mike Pinder and Dickie Betts.🎶
"Bastard" is referencing a song from their 2nd Album "Shout At The Devil" called Bastard. Among other things this very current Graphics, Animation, Ai style video is Awesome. Plus Even though I love Mic Mars' playing, John 5 is a good add on the group's sound.
Vince looks great! He has lost at least 75 pounds, and I can't wait to hear him sing this live! "...laa waa na la la na Dogs of Waaa....waa naa laa la nah laaa Dogs of Waaaa......yeah!"
As a drummer since I was ten, I can say that Tommy is SO over rated. Mick was the the only real musician in that band and I'm glad he left. Mr.Six needs to give it a rest. he can't play. well kinda. I heard a Six solo a bit back and i was just , meh
ok, maybe lee wasn't ian paice, cozy powell, clive burr or mark zonder, and nobody says that, because everyone is who they are and has their own style. and the comparisons are wrong. and no one has ever said he is number 1 in the world. but this certainly doesn't mean that he wasn't a great drummer! and one of the undisputed protagonists of that era and of the classic hard/heavy panorama. and in my opinion, in some ways also innovative. Furthermore, he is also a multi-instrumentalist, as he also plays the piano. one thing is sure, however: there couldn't be a more perfect drummer for motley crue!
He was the First of its kind with that Style of playing Drums. A damn Powerhouse!!! Since then So many have copied it to the point that you think it's average.
@@Rock4UNow what style? Bash bash crash and roll around the stage style? Or is it the, Let’s use backing tracks style? Believe me there’s plenty of young RUclipsrs that are better than Tommy ever was. Maybe because they don’t play his ‘style’
They may have tried, but I doubt that song does anything for old or new fans. It doesn't move the needle one way or the other. But they certainly do manage to irritate a big chunk their old fans about the way went about Mick Mars' dismissal from the organization, for the sake of full blown greed, coming primarily from the guy who admittedly didn't (because he couldn't) play the bass on their 80s records. Simply, that's why all the hate. Because of that man's grand hypocrisy and shameless lying. So go ahead and keep going Milly Crue. Who cares?
The common thread seems to be that it's people like you and me - people who weren't really fans to begin with - that are reasonably OK with this tune. My profile is almost the same as you - not much of a fan of the people in the band or their music, other than a few things here and there. As such, I think "Dogs of War" is decent. The vaguely Metallica-like riffs are pummeling; the chorus hook with its odd chord change of d minor to f minor coupled with a rising melody is super catchy; the ominous verse is creepy and moody like good 90s alt-rock. Plus, there's lots of production ear candy, like the keyboard hook near the end of the song. I think it's all really well done. The only thing I would say is they should have tightened up the lyrics a bit, and then this would have risen from a 7.5 to possibly an 8 in my book. Everything you said is pretty much in synch with my thoughts.
I never got into them at all back then, I was too laser focused on my fav band VanHalen to be bothered with their nonsense they were peddling at the time. And it appears they're still hauling around the wagon full of their snake oil. Jeez boys an EP, thats all ya got. Cant see this John putting in his tenure with the guys either. Great episode Michael, cheers
"When they first came out, I kinda liked their records." Honest street. Music critics loathed Motley Crue when they first came out. Only recently, due to longevity, have they received any critic love. Mars was the musical heart of the band. Vince Neil...didn't he delete someone via negligent driving? Motley Crue is a strip club hair band that is a millimeter better than "Trixter" and "Faster Pussycat", imo. You need to do better, Motley Crue, imo.
If this timeline had been .. the other side of mars is the album and this new Dawgs of wahhh track... I think it makes the album but its not rhe first one or two singles. I can think of several MM songs I'd prefer to hearing again over this.
This is interesting to learn about. Guys trying to look like girls never got me interested in their offerings. I knew that had a few rocking songs, but they weren't great songs in my opinion. Mick Mars was the most impressive player in the band as far as I am concerned. John 5 is a very skilled player, without question.
I know you guys like what you like but if you want to try anything out of the box you should try Rotting Christ "devadevam" yes it's black metal but it's something way out of the box it's great you got to listen

Dont you think this is all just part of the motley story. Even bad press is good press. How many people are listening to mics new stuff. Welcome to the show people.
Michael, knowing how little you generally appreciate MC, then hearing you actually somewhat complimentary of the track I figured I’d go give it a listen. If I’d heard it blindfolded, I’d have never guessed it was MC. That having been said, it strikes me as a pretty generic track. Nothing to make me want to hear more. Then again, I could say that about most MC tracks. Vince’s voice sounds odd, like he recently sucked a lungful of helium.
I bought their first album in the used record section about 40 years ago for a dollar on the "Leather Records" label. It is pretty damn good. After that they just seemed to become a big bloated bag of shit.
I liked the album Shout at the Devil. It had some killer tracks on it, after that meh for the most part. Home Sweet Home was a pretty good power ballad, Smoking In the Boys Room I actually liked better than the original, but by the time they got around to Girls, Girls, Girls and that other tripe they put out I was turned off of their music.
Vince didn't intentionally kill someone, it was an accident. Yes, he was drunk, but so was Razzle...and he chose to get into a car with a guy that he knew was drunk.. that means they both made an irresponsible decision that lead to his death.. So no!! Vince should not be in prison 40 years later for accidently killing someone..Not to mention that the families retired as millionaires after the settlement.
I liked the album "Shout At the Devil." Granted I was 16 and cruising with my friends. When those songs come on I get a little nostalgic. What they do today, I'm in full agreement with you. Most of what you brought up is them trying to please their fans in their emotionally stunted brains. But their fans are my age, so now people just want great music. Mick Mars is the standout in the band. My husband can't stand Tommy Lee's drumming. All fluff, no substance.
This song and video is Sh!t!! A.I. generated video, and from what I've heard, A.I. generated Music!! They are 100 times faker than KISS nowadays! Now let me get to John 5!! I have no problem with him personally, But, He's been the worst "replacement " member of every band he's been in to date!! Sure, He's a shredder, but when was the last time you hummed an Yngwie Malmsteen song? EXACTLY!!! John 5 is the "Cousin Oliver" of every band he's stepped into. They bring him in on the 6th season to add a new dynamic, when ratings are down, but it's way too late in the game and the general public just doesn't care. He did that with Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and when Rob Halford tried to be Nine Inch Nails. Just because you can "shred", doesn't mean you can actually write a tune to save your life!!!
As long as I’m piling on the comments, let’s go down a rock guitarist rabbit hole. I put players like John 5, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Joe Bonanassa all in the same category. They have totally different playing styles and they’re considered more or less different genres, but they all lack a distinct personality with their playing. Don’t get it twisted, I consider all three of those guys “virtuosos” on the guitar. They just lack that certain “something” when it comes to their soloing and riffs. Those hummable, singable, memorable guitar solos. This is why my favorite players are guys like Eliot Easton of the Cars, Gary Richrath of REO Speedwagon, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, Peter Frampton, Richie Blackmore, Mick Taylor, Tom Scholz, Brian May, etc. These guys are all very different players in tone, technique, melody, etc; but they are the types of guitarists that you can immediately identify even when you remove the rest of the band.
Agreed. The last "new" music that Motley released that was actually worth listening to, was the 2 songs "Bitter Pill" and "Slave" from their Greatest Hits album back in 1998... Everything since then has been pure trash.
Crue had a dozen great songs to listen to in the gym or while driving. Nothing technical or insightful. I’ll say the same for Dee Snyder and the earlier Twisted Sister stuff.
LOL! Yeah, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye Royce! Like I said white Trailer trash! I outta know! I come from a long line of… well, never mind, that’s a LONG story brother!😉👌❤
Dogs of War by Motley Crue ??? How Original !!! I seem to remember songs by the same title from Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Blues Saraceno, and album title by Saxon. Maybe they should rename the band and call themselves "The Copycats" or "Motley Manson".
So a big NO vote registered Jeffrey! The Tribe’s true voice is still being written by all of you! I just stir the shit a little to get the consensus brother! ❤❤❤
They got lucky to have Mick in the band! One thing is to have a dude with a vision of how the band should look a whole other ball game to have a guy who is the sound, song creater motor of the band! They were lucky enough to get record deal and meeting the right market folks concert promotors and so on but it all was hangin on Micks capacity his skills as an guitarist and beeing an xtra papa for the rest of them boys
Saw Motley Crew at Mohegan Sun 2009. They are great performers. Top notch energy. I'm not the biggest fan but realize they have had a few huge hits. Glad they sacked up and wrote and recorded a new song
Its not bad. I have a hard time believing that Vince could pull this off live. I don't care how much weight he lost. They'll go on tour and him and Tommy will get all boozed up again. Trainwreck waiting to happen as usual.
It's pretty bad. I heard rumors that the album was generated by AI, and this literally sounds as if someone prompted AI to make a Motley Crue song. It hits all the generic Crue tropes.
AI Crue. I try not to watch anything current Motley Crue. They have managed to tarnish my childhood memories of them back in the day. They should have kept their retirement.
Everything about this song is bad. The lyrics are crap the drums sound like crap .Vince Neil is too auto tuned . The guitar is nothing special. Without Mars this band is dead.
Didn't it come out that this album was basically written and performed mostly by AI? After all, this is probably the most generic Motley Crue song I've ever heard.
Crue have been irrelevant since 1990 & thats their fault for being so foolish as to fire Vince at the height of their powers then to try and sound like all the other bands in the 90s sealed their demise. Listen to them maybe twice a year but Zeppelin Weekly :)
I see everyone on here has an internationally known band that sold over 100 million albums....oh wait thats just of bunch of unknown , probably non musicians in this thread......LMAO!!!!!
We dont need to eat McD sweety to know it’s sh** food. And “sold over 100 million” …lmfaoooooo Believing the Suxx grifter machine I see. Try 40 million.
I’m currently fostering a 14 month old rescued puppy. Gonna make sourdough bread this weekend AND who the F*€ |< cares about Motley Crue. They where never anything but smoke, mirrors and big hair. Epitomizing the worst of 80’s, dare I call it music?!
Everything they do is Overrated. After the first two records, everything they did was garbage. The only reason they ever made it was because of the outrageous makeup and image.

Its a great tune, to compare it with Mick Mars album is stupid two different artist, its like comparing apples to oranges🤷♂️ both kick ass

“Cousin Oliver”, I love it!😂👍🏼
LOL! Well said Chris!❤❤❤
Now that you mention it I think J5 did an album with DLR several years ago.
These guys are all very different players in tone, technique, melody, etc; but they are the types of guitarists that you can immediately identify even when you remove the rest of the band.
john 5 is one of the most accomplished players in the business. If you think all he can do is play fast you haven't spent much time listening to him
I need new music from Motley like another hole in my head. I'm gonna have to pass!
And I don’t blame you Jackson! ❤❤❤
Agreed. The last "new" music that Motley released that was actually worth listening to, was the 2 songs "Bitter Pill" and "Slave" from their Greatest Hits album back in 1998... Everything since then has been pure trash.
@@markwildt5728 I thought "Primal Scream" was the last passable song they released, but that's just me. Overall they went way downhill after Shout
Crue had a dozen great songs to listen to in the gym or while driving. Nothing technical or insightful. I’ll say the same for Dee Snyder and the earlier Twisted Sister stuff.
Not impressed with the new song. But John 5 is a great guitarist.
They had some good songs and were very entertaining back in the day. They knew how to party. lol
LOL! Yeah, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye Royce!
Like I said white Trailer trash!
I outta know! I come from a long line of… well, never mind, that’s a LONG story brother!😉👌❤
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Absolutely!
"Home Sweet Home" - Motley Crue 🙂
Is that Jon5 with them?
Yes D it is. He said that working with Bob Rock was some of the best schooling he’s ever received as a musician! High praise indeed! ❤❤❤
8:03 Just like Saints of Los Angeles I might add
Dogs of War by Motley Crue ??? How Original !!! I seem to remember songs by the same title from Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Blues Saraceno, and album title by Saxon. Maybe they should rename the band and call themselves "The Copycats" or "Motley Manson".
They were alright when they first came out. Now yeesh!
So a big NO vote registered Jeffrey!
The Tribe’s true voice is still being written by all of you!
I just stir the shit a little to get the consensus brother! ❤❤❤
@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I'm digging it brother! ❤️❤️
O my
The song is plop!
They're new song is terrible. Its bland generic and lacks personality they're definitely missing micks raunchy tone and attitude
Way over produced
Not my cup of tea! Too manufactured and those dolls? Avatars or whatever!
Knew it!!!! Qjen I first head the song I knew you were going to talk about!! I knew it!!
I do like how heavy the song is tho!
LOL! Ya know me so well Scait! ❤❤❤😂😂😂
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine lol yup! James knew it too Lol
Saw Motley Crew at Mohegan Sun 2009. They are great performers. Top notch energy. I'm not the biggest fan but realize they have had a few huge hits. Glad they sacked up and wrote and recorded a new song
Well I gotta admit I like them better than KISS Jamie! ❤❤❤
I think a ghost writer wrote the first two albums. There's a obvious switch at theatre of pain
Its not bad. I have a hard time believing that Vince could pull this off live. I don't care how much weight he lost. They'll go on tour and him and Tommy will get all boozed up again. Trainwreck waiting to happen as usual.
I just listened it soundS like shitty Limp Bizkit with Vince Neil
LOL! Be sure to vote so in my Poll on my community page FODL! ❤❤❤
It's pretty bad. I heard rumors that the album was generated by AI, and this literally sounds as if someone prompted AI to make a Motley Crue song. It hits all the generic Crue tropes.
How can a band get you thinking, when they never do any thinking?
Chince neil
Why does vince deserve to go to jail?? 😅😂
Razzle.
Didn't it come out that this album was basically written and performed mostly by AI? After all, this is probably the most generic Motley Crue song I've ever heard.
I never did a deep dive into Motley Crue only heard their radio songs, so can't say I have a strong opinion one way or the other.
Crue have been irrelevant since 1990 & thats their fault for being so foolish as to fire Vince at the height of their powers then to try and sound like all the other bands in the 90s sealed their demise. Listen to them maybe twice a year but Zeppelin Weekly :)
Oh yeah me too BlueBerry! ❤❤❤
I’m not hearing Tommy’s style on this track at all. It’s the blandest thing they’ve ever done.
Mares was the only legitimate talent in the band.
i had to turn it off at a minute 37 its terrible
You know it’s a missed when Vince mumble pants tries to sing it live and can’t remember the words.
The song writting lyrics is wack! could have been good
it’s the crüe classic
This song is a miss, not good.
shout shout shout shat at motley crue
I see everyone on here has an internationally known band that sold over 100 million albums....oh wait thats just of bunch of unknown , probably non musicians in this thread......LMAO!!!!!
We dont need to eat McD sweety to know it’s sh** food. And “sold over 100 million” …lmfaoooooo Believing the Suxx grifter machine I see. Try 40 million.
I’m currently fostering a 14 month old rescued puppy.
Gonna make sourdough bread this weekend AND who the F*€ |< cares about
Motley Crue. They where never anything but smoke, mirrors and big hair.
Epitomizing the worst of 80’s, dare I call it music?!
Have not liked them since second album. I wonder who is really playing bass here. Yes, I went there.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
AI
Michael, It's Shite
Everything they do is Overrated. After the first two records, everything they did was garbage. The only reason they ever made it was because of the outrageous makeup and image.
