  • Recording of A Bronx Writer's History (1968-1978), a panel discussion on early Bronx graff history in memory of Daniel J. Bonterre/Dr. Soul 1 of The Ebony Dukes, held at the Museum of Bronx History on November 30, 2023. The moderator is STAFF 161 of The Ebony Dukes, the first graffiti crew in The Bronx. A tribute video to Dr. Soul 1 and a presentation by Evaristo Roman of The Ghetto Brothers set the scene for the discussion. Panelists include CHARMIN 65, RIFF 170, CHAYNE 3, FDT 56, COMET, and Al Díaz (BOMB 1). Many pioneering graff writers were present in the audience, including MIKE 171, SJK 171, and ROCKY 184 of WC 188, BUTCH 2, BOT 707, BOM 5, and others. Panelists discuss their entry into the writing world, various early practices and techniques, influential early writers, and much more. They also tackle some of the historical disputes around the relationship between graffiti and the art world, the geographical origin of writing (Philadelphia vs. New York), and more.

    I remember when FDT got caught in Central Park. It was in the paper. First thing the cops did was sabatoge his job. I remember the old days he was one of the top taggers. Along with Tony 164, Presweet, Clyde.
