    Has been my most loved aria sung by Joan for over 50 years. It has never been matched by anyone in my opinion.

      Agreed but some acted a bit of acting fun to it like Nathalie Dessey and Patricia Petibon. But a voice like Sutherland's only comes around once.

    There's something so incredibly baroque and artistic about how she's leaning on a chair and draped magnificently. The gorgeous, free, sparkling prime Sutherland voice too.

    Quando un soprano di coloratura si fonde con un soprano lirico...una meraviglia unica!

    The way Sutherland's sound rides on the breath is remarkable. Every note is supported perfectly.

    If Sutherland had sung ONLY Handel, she would still be regarded as one of the greatest sopranos of the twentieth century. This is singing in the grand manner. I doubt that even Adelina Patti had sung Handel more beautifully. Thanks for sharing!

      Her Alcina at the Festival Hall was my favourite of all her roles.

    I’m sure Handel was in awe when the sound reached heaven

    Sutherland's trill was the most natural of any I have ever heard. Natural, but somehow supernatural. Thanks for the post.

    If you want to know what is the perfection of sing, listen to Joan Sutherland. One can sing as complicated as they wish, but can never surpass the perfection level of Joan Sutherland.

    Gorgeous singing from La Stupenda. Callas was La Divina. Only the greatest would receive such honorific titles. This is actually Morgana's aria from Alcina but Dame Joan appropriated it in 1959!😂 One denies La Stupenda nothing.

    She's my favorite Handel singer, but it's interesting how her middle voice sounds so much darker than it did in the 1962 program with Elkins, and how the vibrato in the middle had already started to get quite heavy.

    • @jondavwal13
      @jondavwal13 5 лет назад +4

      The voice is heavier. The vibrato his not.

    She is my favorite singer, but for the year this is I think she was having a bad day. LOL. Of course it would be anybody else's good day, but she sounds like she's working hard and like she isn't completely warmed up.
