This is a side project video to the 2014 California Capital Air Show, in Sacramento. (The primary reason for visiting the Northern California area)
This video Contains footage of the Amtrak California Cars.. powered by either P42DC's or F59PHI's. Almost all these trains are Capitol Corridor routes.. Maybe one or two are Amtrak San Joaquin routes, .. based on whether the route is numbered in the 500 for CC routes, or 700's for SQ routes. This footage is shot from approximately 1pm - 4:30pm.

That would be nice to be able to drive alongside an Amtrak train going down the street! Awesome video!
That is a wonderful place for rail fans. I stayed in that area while on vacay and absolutely loved seeing all the trains.

I’ve been to Jack London Square as well and I’ve seen two Amtrak Capitol Corridors, Both with F59PHI’s. And I kind of want to go back and see a few more F49’s before their fully retired. Anyways, nice video and catches! Also love those sweet narrow font K5LA’s at 2:28 and 11:42.

i also went railfanning there... saw a UNION PACIFIC GP9!!!! how rare that was.... a switching job.... with a GP9 that is probably retired now... i saw it in 2012, too bad i didnt have a camera on me

The Capitol Corridors are actually in the 500's on weekdays only and on the weekend they are in the 700's like the San Joaquin.

America, as in the US of A, has lots of such trains that truly run right thru the middle of down-town feature, what exceptional uniqueness. We don't have none such unique features where I live. Features like this one & a few other equally notable "Mechanical (Public Transport) Marvels", like i.e. ; Germany city ;- Wuppertal's very distinctive, 1 of a kind '(top) Suspended type Monorail' system, the Swiss 'Gelmerbahn' & Australian 'Katoomba' ultra-steep funiculars rides & the many other unique Swiss transport system wonders, like for 1, the specially made cable-car system that had gondolas that actually have "revolving turntable" for floors on the Mount Titlis ride & as well another that is probably found nowhere yet, the Mount Stanserhorn cable-car ride that had gondolas that're in fact 'Double Deckers' with the top-deck being entirely "Open Air". Some others that are also worth a mention are ; the (Greater) China(ese) (meaning what is mentioned here, is not Taiwan) ; YangJiaJie -Tian-Men Shan, as well the Lantau Island of SAR Hong Kong's Tian-Than Buddha & the Australian Blue Mountain, where all 3 cable-car rides are considerably lengthy & can be such fun for enthusiasts (Techies) of such Mech-Marvel constructs & as well evn to the ordinary tourists alike, cuz they certainly "ARE" an attraction of sorts that holds its own.
We on the other hand, had better also put our heads to some serious brain-stormin', like in the way of for say the Singareans, the South Koreans, the Chinaese, the Taiwanese & the many other countries more that also did the same to draw-in the much needed cash-flow of foreign currency..

No, it is not rare in the USA. There is one in Anaheim also. I don't know avout that much near me though to be honest.
All My Midwest/ChicagoArea Railfans who think METRA is looking at these cars (which would be perfect) don't HOLD your breath! Illinois just can't cut it financing the agency in the way it should. Too many pockets being lined in Springfield with money, and they like it that way. Sad!

Eric Weber well the reason we call it horns is by the air chimes from compressed air coming out of there.
Wrong. Modern trains and ships both have horns, a whistle is powered by steam and is chambered differently than a air horn.

It’s seems to me that when running in reverse the engineer has such limited visibility ahead as to have safety concerns
The engineer is always at the front on these trains. The car on the end has a drivers cab, as you can see by the windows on the sides of connecting door. This car is called a cab car, and has all the equipment needed to lead a train like a horn and lights (And driving controls obviously). If you look closely you can also see the engineers mirrors, which fold into the windows closest his end of the car.
If the engineer was required to reverse direction while staying in the same cab, he would have someone on the other end of the train or on the ground guiding him with a radio.
