How does counseling need to be decolonized?

This could be a long response but let’s first introduce theories other than white European male generated. Let’s include Ayurveda, Native American and Asian theories of health and wellness. More to come.

Hi, can you please help me understand how this is decolonizing? How are you using the term decolonization (your personal definition). Even including references. If you have a video you explain this that would be awesome. I love learning how others use the term.

Thank you! I definitely need to be more explicit. Quick answer, the model of having an “expert” who diagnoses then prescribed treatment is a microcosm of how colonialism enforced its agenda and beliefs in others. PBE is about de-experting and making the profession honor indigenous practices, while collaborating with clients and their true values, not white male heternormative values.
