This kakashi episode was canon but not related to the main story. It was drawn by Kishimoto himself late in the story, plus he just draw it only in sketches stage, not even inking or finishing it. If not mistaken somewhere around near the end of shippuuden or after it was already ended for the manga. That is why the studio place the "filler" here right before the anime ended and not in the OG series. And need to be remember manga way ahead from the anime adaptation.
