The Resilience of our Ancestors

  • We remember the past struggles of our ancestors, their resilience, industriousness, strength and outstanding endurance. How can our ancestors' stories encourage us to be better? Are we less strong and less resilient? Or can we be just as enduring and powerful? The stories of our ancestors should, at the very least, give us a fervent passion for life and being alive; stories that keep us going forward in search for a better future.

Thank you, we sometimes think we know how our great grandparents lived, but the only way is to live that way to get the true meaning. Could we live like our Great Grandparents? Time has change as well as us, we have evolved into what we are today. Well thanks again, have a blessed day!

Sometimes I hear people saying that they want to have a life like our ancestors had, and so they do a couple of things that seems to them to be how their ancestors had lived and done things. Yet, I don't see them that all eager to live in a cave without Wi-Fi. No matter what people say, when faced with harsh reality they end up choosing what is more comfortable to them and safe, to avoid pain, harm and death. And that is the way things are; our ancestors also strived to live a life with more comfort and closer to the things they needed to have a better life. I understand why this wish exists ("of living like our ancestors"), as we, as a society, we have the tendency to romanticize the past, precisely because we did not live it, and we think it was some sort of wonderful time where the "evils" of the modern world did not exist. This tendency in itself is ancestral, because we read it in the oldest surviving scriptures, tablets and scrolls, of people wishing the same thing, because they themselves did not live in the past they have romanticized and glorified. I don't see the need to regress. As a species we have evolved quite a lot and on several aspects we have become better. But we still fail in a variety of things because in our romantic blindness and/or in our blatant pride of thinking we are more sophisticated and intelligent than past people, we do not properly look at the good and bad behaviours of past civilizations, in order to learn and to avoid the same errors and to strive to indeed become greater and more mindful of life and nature. Thank you for your feedback. Have a wonderful day!

Your message should be spread throughout the youth of today. I am only in my mid 30s but I grew up in an extremely remote village in north western Canada. We had well water from a hand pump and an outhouse, a wood stone for heat, and hunted for food rather than sport.
What I have learned from my upbringing in that village is that it was difficult but no more difficult than life now. I am not ever one to be the victim but I have had some serious obstacles not dissimilar to your description of personal strife. I don't say that to invoke sympathies but rather to support/reinforce your brilliant message.
I think of my ancestors not with a longing for their time but rather for the fortitude to meet my time.
Marcus Aurelius mentions in Meditations something that I think of often (not an exact quotation as it has been some years since I read it)
His fellow countrymen longing for Rome to return to its pure, simple, honourable past rather than their perception of the late 100s AD which to them was a deprived and and wayward Rome.
It must be a human condition for those that do not actively engage in continuous self-reflection to long for that. I certainly did before I embraced stoicism and practiced working on improving myself rather than worrying about much else.
I am not "there" yet, and if life is the journey I perceive it to be then I will never get "there" fully and that is good. We are life long students.
I have experienced and done horrible things in my past however I have learned that through my own will and determination I can grow from that, be a better man, and rise myself up into my future on my path. Not by the will of the Gods or my ancestors but rather in their name and knowing that they and all whom have come before us, good, evil, or otherwise, did merely to survive.
Well so much for my initial paragraph response.
My friend, I appreciate your content but more so your disposition and your intentions. You are a brilliant man and you have a stoic heart.
It would be wonderful to be able to sit around a fire and enjoy good food, beverage, and conversation with you.
    Cheers Brother

At times the negative collective shadow can bring me down but with resilience that’s inside of me and the guidance of the spirits and Gods there is break through in my life .. in my inner.Child and others here still living and for my ancestors of old.. this was a perfect message for me to here as I walk this path of life

Thanks brother, made me think about my ancestors some too. My 4th great grandfather survived a journey on foot with a group that migrated down the Ohio River all the way to the state of Louisiana...The people were all sick & starving so, his dad went to find food for everyone & never came back. All they found was bloody clothes. Their best guess was a wild bear... He previously was a blacksmith before coming to the new world. (United States). As a kid he grew up in Switzerland. They were from Denmark before that & according to DNA kit I took Norway (so, original vikings that just keep migrating) I personally have lived in 8 different states (across the 4 corners of this U.S.) Hopefully (I think) we're finally done & will remain in Washington state. 🖖&❤️

Thankyou for this Arith it is always the greatest pleasure and privilege to have you share conversation and insights with us, and to be able to feel a sense of renewed eyes and fresh reflections upon our own experience and that of our ancestors and our others, from the vast outpouring of triggered flashbacks of memories of long past… much loved and precious ….shared moments, as I have had a very similar life experience to yours with many of the exact same things….and I often marvel at how things have crystallised and changed from my childhood to now, and how much change my grandmother and hers had bore witness to, comming up in a wild and unknown land, as Australian forest posed a great many uncharted and new species of challenges, they had very little contact or experience with, resilience and strong demeanour prevailed and self reliance with few hospitals and much distance between civilisation, i struggle now to ensure my son has an understanding of how things may well change in this current climate and how he must be vigilant and aware of his strength and potential in his life and choices, i am so happy you have shared this and I am so grateful to be able to share this and so much of your materials and conversations with him to give him awareness and a broader mind set.❤️

We can learn quite a lot from our ancestors. Unfortunately, these days, the subject of ancestry is shrouded in romanticized racial zeal as a spiritual justification for extreme politics of a racial character, and due to supremacist ideals there's been a fine line between ethnic pride and racial mysticism. Many people focus too much on an imagined past, a "Golden Age" that never was, and shift away that focus from the real life-lessons of our ancestors, and instead live within a false conception, therefore failing to gather the truly useful knowledge. The struggles of our ancestors, their deeds and errors, their behaviours, good actions and bad actions should be considered so we can become better than them, and not the same. We all walk towards several struggles, so it is important to know that, if past people were able to survive, so can we. And we learn from them to avoid falling into the same abyss. Thank you for your feedback friend, very much appreciated. I wish you a wonderful day and strength of mind and spirit. We may possess the strength of a thousand ancestors, but we, ourselves, need to build our own strength as well and prove that we have evolved them, and not stagnated on a past time that isn't ours.

I feel as though a comment of mine in a previous video of yours has been addressed, though I would never be so presumptuous to suppose this is the case. I remarked that I fear life, welcoming death. Each day compounding my troubles - every problem a grain of sand, every day I inherit the desert. Next to me lies the Elder Futhark rune Laguz, which I made from an obsidian coloured stone and used gold paint to make it stand out. Your knowledge of this surpasses my own, but I feel the torrential waters and must be as this, if this makes any sense. I am so far removed from the lands of my ancestors, I only have my inner link to our collective unconscious. Thank you for the video, Arith. I long to return to the North, once done in the Southern wastes of Africa.

I've never been challenged to pass my limits like now, my body and mind are tired and I have to keep going to get my life straight because no one would do it for me. I do remember to link to our ancestors strengths and resilience daily to actually keep on moving in a daily basis. What makes life so hard sometimes is how little we actually care about other peoples struggles and even if those struggles dont look like big deal after I went through I know each of us are different and are challenged in different levels so each has different capacities to support pain or endure until the problem is fixed. This video landed on my feeds in the exact time, thank you.

Hello there friend. I've read a recent book called "Awakening the Soul - A deep response to a troubled world" by Michael Meade. If you haven't read it yet I recommend, because at least the very first pages resound with what you said concerning our current society, and the world itself of our days - how we feel lost and overwhelmed with all the crushing information we are bombarded with everyday, and we feel powerless and hopeless. A continuous existential crisis provoked by the constant moments of challenge in all the aspects of society and how human awareness deals with this. We are mentaly tired and this is leading us in search for our souls again, a rekindle of a spiritual approach to life in order to cope with these sentiments of hopelessness that lead to deep depression of the mind. The mind cannot live a balanced life without the soul, and vs versa. The point here is that you are not alone, which in itself may be a depressive thought since many suffer in silence, however, it can also be a comforting thought knowing that we aren't alone in such struggles and many others are also trying, and we can exchange knowledge with each other in order to help people. Give that book a try. If it isn't too much, I also recommend two other books that might help you quite a lot: (1) "Depressive Illness: The Curse Of The Strong" by Tim Cantopher; (2) "The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the Transformation of Trauma" by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Thank you friend and I wish you strength of mind and spirit. Be well!

@@ArithHärger Thank you for your kind response and for the book Tips. I already read three books on the matter and always eager to read more. I learn and understand better when reading instead of listening. So good thing i have Birthday next week and some people asked me what would like as a gift. I tell them about the books i guess. :)
What you said about other people suffering similar issues and i am not beeing alone, well... i experienced that. I was in clinical treatment twice. 6 weeks and 10 weeks and also a 9 month group therapy. And it helps to share the burden. Some people draw a worse lot than i did with what happend to them in their life. Way, way worse. And i was wondering how they did not yet kill them self, instead of living with such immense Trauma. So when a book title says "Depressive Illness: The curse of the strong" it sounds about right from what i can say about the others i met.

Sorry if I answer myself. He was born and lives in Portugal, but has ancestors from other places in Europe, including Sweden, Germany and Italy. He might answer your question himself, but while you wait...

But does it matter? :P What if I told you I'm a man of the world? Well, I'm from Portugal hehehe. Not Scandinavian citizen, only by ancestry, it would seem. Although it is something that matters little to me as I am who I choose to be (perhaps that sounds a little but pertentions, sorry). Have a wonderful day! Cheers!

The other day I've received an email saying that my Italian ancestry isn't Italian, and so it changed to Switzerland and Netherlands instead lol. Also gained % in Brittish Ancestry xD To be honest, the test was paid for, as I probably would never take one as I'm not really deeply invested in knowing those things; to me, these tests have a great lack of scientific background to them. These DNA test results linking ancestry to existing nationalities (modern or otherwise) is a complete scam. No identification of haplogroups (Y-DNA and MtDNA), nothing. These tests are just useless, and to keep people entertained. I think National Geographic is the only one that is making proper DNA tests for the public, but good gods it is expensive! Here we struggle to survive, so every bit of money goes into food and to pay the bills. No time for extravaganzas, I'm afraid lol.

Northern European cultures can be rather tight lipped about struggles in general. Many NE people know more about the ancestors and struggles of other cultures, whom have been theorized to have it worse than NE peoples in an over saturated fashion in World media. The practice of suppressing the beauty of well practiced celestial and natural forms mythology and ancestor worship, being replaced by one god or prophet religions, has caused cultural amnesia for some NE peoples. And, contemporary culture is all about faking appearances, creating an illusion of wealth, serenity and spiritual soundness. A movement towards openness and rediscovery is imminent and well appreciated. TY

Is there anything within archeological findings linking anything about the periodic table in paganism ?
I know this may sound strange but I don't know any other way to form the question.

"Resilience" is a word that should be banned. It is normally used and abused by people we should not trust (in international politics and economy, I am not talking about you of course).

@Faroe Agreed, so we may use it in the field of interest it was created for: metallurgy.

Now that you say it, I see it lol. The Prime Minister here is always saying that word. Although I should say that when speaking about the ancestors certain words have to be avoided lest people think it's some sort of white-supremacist bs because, unfortunately, white-supremacy has created a fine line between ethnic pride and racial mysticism, and people are understandably wary. I've chosen this world carefully to avoid misinterpretation, because I know many people "judge a book by its cover", in this case judge a title of a video without watching the content. But I guess every word will trigger something in someone, which is comprehensible; we live in a society where conversation is saturated and mere words affect one way or another. When the spoken-word becomes unbearable, societies fall and we start again. Ruins is the fate of all Societies.

@@ArithHärger I do not know the country you are from but I know that half of European Leaders are currently using that word to persuade people to give up on everything (wealth, freedom, civil rights, etc) to become resilient servants. I hope I made my thought clear, now.
