Legend has it that Porsche had left overs from the 356 production....and the 912 was born!

Brilliant job. I'm from the UK and have a 1968 Right Hand Drive 912. Bought it when I was 25 and I'm now 60. Like you, I started out with the Solex carbs and moved to Twin 40 Weber's, second hand off of an Alfa Sud. No money at the time, so you did what you had to do. My car still runs the Dynamo and Regulator. The car is lowered and had been modified before I bought it, to fiberglass front wings, impact bumpers and rear wheel arch extensions. It runs 205 tires all round on early Fondmetal alloys. Love the car and would never sell it. I will take it to the grave and my daughter will drive it home from there.

The 4-cylinder engines were well-proven unlike the 6 cylinder when the 911 body style came out. Lots of people think that 4 cylinders is just right.

Excellent video!! Love the fog lights! Your car is cooler than a 911, but the missing Porsche chrome flat dish hubcaps make it look like a work of art without a frame, or maybe it has the frame but not the matting...? I'm trying to say something is missing, unless you were going for an unfinished look?

A friend of mine Fuel injected and turbocharged an old R90s, he did it decades ago. He probably is the best BMW motorcycle mechanic in Australia. Ray Peake.
An American company called Luftmeister used to make turbo kits for airheads, might be a good source of information for you. They no longer exist but worth looking into.

Congrats - the 912 has been a dream car of mine for 50 years. This EFI kit appears to take the car to another level and make it even MORE appealing! I didn’t think that was possible.
    A couple video critiques:
Us car nuts want to hear how crisply the new system responds, but the music gets in the way right from the beginning. Also - you never really gave us anything to chew on regarding performance or mpg improvements. Maybe a follow-up video?
in spite of my critiques it was an excellent watch - thanks!

your on point EFI for the win 100%
The fact they aren't run daily and we're stuck with modern fuel, EFI is a joy compared to the throttle pedal voodoo/prayers to get the cars started 6am on a cold day to head to a track day.
I've had 3 carb cars my RSR replica moved to EFI because needing to add +1hr for a winter morning start with more often than not a fireball setting off the neighbours car alarms at 4am to go to a track day was horrid. EFI was awesome turn key poof starts golden.
My 2nd carb car 911 3.0 rally car stayed on carbs, no hopping in for a drive. God help me if the weather was piss for a few weeks and it wasn't ran.
My 3rd car an 1965 911s 2.0 FIA rally car is keeping its solex's but the whole engine and trans is going to be boxed/stored and swapped for a 2.4 efi until I want to go racing with it. When the guys looking after it suggested bit their hand off!

My solex carbs on my 68 912 caught fire. Almost burned the garage down. I’ll revisit this upgrade once I get an another. I ended up buying a 911 t motor I think for it. Sold the damaged 912 motor to a vw mechanic. I don’t know what I was thinking. But hey as a 25 year old what do you expect. Great car you got! If you hear of another reach out. I sure miss the early 912

Lot of work and looks like it worked out. I solved most of my hot carb issues with phenolic spacers and shielding metal fuel lines. Beyond that you could pop the trunk at gas stops or even some mini efans. With Mopar you get a slow starter so a $30 pass through priming pump can help with quicker starts. A return fuel line to the tank can also help with vapor lock but with a dual carb that might not be fun.

Very nice video, really interesting. I have a 356SC and have the same issues with the Solexes as you mentioned. With the EFI hot and cold starts are no longer an issue, how does the power, responsiveness and fuel economy compare to carburetors? Looks like you left the distributor body in place…is a blank-off plate an option to eliminate the old distributor?
    Thanks for making this video.

    • @CognitoMotoTV
      @CognitoMotoTV  8 месяцев назад

This kit should work with your 356 as long as it is 12v. It is very responsive like any modern car. This is adjustable as well but there is a point where too responsive makes for jerky ride so I have it where it feels like a normal car. Anyone can get in my car and drive it without issue. I drive this daily to work currently 40 min drive without issue. Highway is roughly 34 mpg. Distributor can be blocked off. It wasn't leaking and looked funny so I left it.
