Great Steve, if you're going to Dover you HAVE TO go to the Warther wood carving museum, it only a couple of blocks from where this vid was taken. he did some of the most incredible wood carvings of steam locos that have ever been made, absolutely phenonmenal, you will love that place I promise
@@ccrx6700 We have heard about this place also from a good friend of ours, I will be contacting you as time gets closer and details come to be on the trip next year.
It looks to be an MP-15 AC which was probably about the last model of that type of switcher to be built. MP-15 switchers beginning with the standard DC model and ending with the AC model were built from 1974 until 1980 according to one source.
I've worked on a few of those and their earlier SW 1500 cousins. None of those made much black smoke like this one did, they all were making blue and gray oil smoke! RJC has that one tuned right!
We had an old EMD SW1200 built in 1965 for many years switching the yards. Had to get rid of it because it wasn't "green" enough for California. Now we have an NRE 3GS21B that we got this year and an old kodachrome we've had for a long time.
Oh it has been unreliable. In the shop every other week. But the old kodachrome keeps on trucking. The old SW12000 we had to torch holes in the engine block so it could never run again then it got cut up and scrapped.
now now now, be careful what you type, you tube bot is watching, it automatically deletes any 4 letter cuss word, but again, that was a 6 letter word....LOL
On the old Milwaukee Road, MP15AC's were known for dragging built trains upwards of 15,000 tons into ready tracks at major terminals. They are some bull-stout little switchers.
@@ccrx6700 You're welcome. I remember reading about that in a "Locomotive" magazine issue from the perspective of a conductor who was working for Canadian Pacific. Interestingly, the Milwaukee MP15AC's that I was referring to were known on the CP as "Bandits", former Milwaukee MP15AC's that had not been rebuilt/repainted into CP colors. In the article, the conductor mentioned also of a local transfer job that involved taking a coal train down to a power plant to be unloaded, normally done via doubling due to a small hill en route. In his MP15AC "Bandit" story, the engineer he was with said they were taking the whole 14,000 ton train in one lick. The wildest part: although the train got down to 2mph on the hill climb, the Bandit engine dragged the entire train up and over the hill all by its lonesome. So, you can bet top dollar them MP15AC's are unique.
I remember watching them at Bensenville yard near O’Hare airport near Chicago. The sound was just awesomeness!! Only a couple of the AC’s got painted into the red/ light gray of the Soo Line
I love those little EMD switchers! Jaw Tooth shows a short line that has a black one quite a bit, but your bridge view of this yard with this shiny red Corman one is pretty awesome! A little tip on your hashtags Dave - RUclips will publish three of them per video. They must not have spaces as a space means stop - connect the words using Camel Case. If you did #RJCorman #FlatSwitching and #CormanCleavelend RUclips would have published all three, but because #rj is repeated several times, they only publish it once and ignore the rest. #flat is the only other valid hashtag because there is a space after it. You can put in as many hashtags as you want, but again they will only publish three. You can look at the one's on my videos for reference. Have a great day 😊
Thank you, really appreciate the knowledge on that! I'm learning and not too many folks like to share their info with me on stuff like that, so will fix and do better in future. You are a wealth of knowledge my friend and listen to what you tell me, can't thank you enough

Thats neat, we got them here in Spencerville. They run a sw1200 that was once used by GTW, they assigned it to the line in sometime of 2016 or 17. I've been trying to catch it for about 4 years now but whenever they do run it, it's usually in the morning hours when I'm dealing with high school stuff, it seems like they run it every other Thursday.
Switching yard cuting, switching, and joining railroad cars so that they get where they have to go. Thanks for the video! Must'a been many people from around Dover (the White Cliffs oif Dover kind of Dover) who named their settlements "Dover".
It is October 5th. Just caught this engine working Wooster today switching out Frito-Lay. Usually this line is served by either a rebuilt GP7 or GP20 so this was a pleasant change of pace. The horn was a dead giveaway that this was not the usual power assigned over here.

You can move a lot of cars on the flat with 1500HP. A lot of the reason you need a lot of power on freight trains is to maintain speed up hills -- you need the power to lift all that weight vertically. If you don't mind going slowly and you don't need to go up hills, you can move a lot of weight with a small locomotive.

Great Steve, if you're going to Dover you HAVE TO go to the Warther

It looks to be an MP-15 AC which was probably about the last model of that type of switcher to be built. MP-15 switchers beginning with the standard DC model and ending with the AC model were built from 1974 until 1980 according to one source.
Yep was mp 15 ac, went home and looked it up on computer,

I've worked on a few of those and their earlier SW 1500 cousins. None of those made much black smoke like this one did, they all were making blue and gray oil smoke! RJC has that one tuned right!

We had an old EMD SW1200 built in 1965 for many years switching the yards. Had to get rid of it because it wasn't "green" enough for California. Now we have an NRE 3GS21B that we got this year and an old kodachrome we've had for a long time.
hope they still have it, those genset switchers can be unreliable.
Oh it has been unreliable. In the shop every other week. But the old kodachrome keeps on trucking. The old SW12000 we had to torch holes in the engine block so it could never run again then it got cut up and scrapped.
@@michaelball760 that calif. for you, that's 1 f**ked up state! I guess that kodachrome is a a ex SP locomotive....

On the old Milwaukee Road, MP15AC's were known for dragging built trains upwards of 15,000 tons into ready tracks at major terminals. They are some bull-stout little switchers.
Sweet Stephen, thanks for sharing that, this one sounded like it
had some pulling power
Thanks Dave. I really enjoyed watching this video over my morning coffee. I really love watching yard action.

AWESOME Switcher , love that sound also . Alot of cars for one switcher , no ?
I thought the same, but Dave's description says 1500 HP- good power and undoubtably in great shape, considering the owner!
Glad you enjoyed watching, we do appreciate that
You can move a lot of cars on the flat with 1500HP. A lot of the reason you need a lot of power on freight trains is to maintain speed up hills -- you need the power to lift all that weight vertically. If you don't mind going slowly and you don't need to go up hills, you can move a lot of weight with a small locomotive.
