Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I’m forced to take the plunge and try and hope for the best as it’s a situation I’m faced with. 😊
I had these questions on my mind the last few days and scrolling through the YT home page I saw your video. I guess my mind antenna resonated with the universe and it provided.
Always great content. Keep up the good work Dave.
Dave you do an excellent job of answering ham radio operator questions! KC9QVE Marion,Indiana
How about running two 400 MAX cables into the shack via the same PVC pipe that gives my coax entry to my shack? One is for a 10m Vibroplex ENDFED verticle wire on an extendable fiberglass pole, and the other leads to my 2m/70cm Diamond X-300 antenna mounted on a Harbor Freight flag pole. Both radios may be on, but only one is transmitting at any time.
The far field of an antenna is the region where the shape of the antenna pastern is independent of distance. So your'e far enough away that the pattern is no longer affected by ground or objects - a good thing to know when studying for the Extra Class Exam.
If they're parallel, over/under, won't the bottom one act as a reflector for the upper one? I know we do that sometimes for a NVIS antenna.
Depends on size, distance and frequency!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Dave. Bret/AC0AE
So 80, 40, and 20 meter single band dipoles can be placed within 1 ft of each other ?
Hey Dave, What about having an EFHW (inverted L) near a vertical HF multiband (Butternut HF9V or DX commander) antenna? Will they effect each other negatively? How far apart should they be?
Hi Dave, I have a question regarding two HF antenna operated close together. I had originally planned to use a tower and put up a Hexbeam. I installed the base of the tower but then decided to use a 43ft vertical antenna and have so for almost two years. I subsequently decided to get a Hexbeam and install the balance of the tower which is 30ft with the rotator just below the 30ft around 28ft. Now the major issue is that my tower is about 9.5ft from my vertical which I have over 40 ground radials in the ground so moving it is not an option at this time nor the tower due to being secured in concrete. My question is that the Hexbeam will be about 2-3ft higher than the vertical. Obviously I will only use on antenna at a time but will there be adverse effects and will it cause my reception and or transmission to be effected as well as see? Your input will be greatly appreciated. The hexbeam is 11ft wide so only about 2-3ft goes over the vertical please could you tell me if this is going to be a problem
The first rule of antennas is that everything affects everything. I’m surprised your hex Mimi is only 11 feet wide. The only way to really know is to try. Or, you can model it.Find one of your club members who is confident about modeling. There is an easy NEC model for the extreme floating around. I don’t know how the iPad turns hex beam into extreme. Anyway, you get the gist. The Radials will not be a problem. It’s just the 43 foot pole. 73 from Dave
I have a10 meter and a 20 meter dipole that are parallel to each other and about 5 feet apart. Is that bad? If bad, does this affect reception as well?
Thank you so much for this Dave. 👍🏼👍🏼
What if 1 antenna is vertical, and the other is horizontal?
Hey, David, How are you doing?
How far apart should the minimum distance be ?
I believe it's one wavelength
You won't even save our QSL cards?
Would a loop / halo horizontally polarized 2m antenna interfere with a vertically polarized 2m antenna?
if it's close enough, it sure will.
any close metal or conductive element will.
even your roof gutter can too.
Thank you. N0QFT
Good Stuff thank you so much
What if it a gmrs and a 2mm/ 70cm
Re the EFHW, u mentioned due to the high-Q on 80m, it only works towards the lower end, saying that was "ok...u can work ft-8"; while that's certainly true, WHY don't u also mention CW? I know it's unintentional, but it's kinda like u don't even recognize the mode exists (& we all know u do! LOL); so while it's really no big deal, to CW ops like myself, it was a bit surprising☹️73🇺🇲dit dit
Kinda like a fan dipole does.
Coupling ...... it happens ..... Sort of like a quote from Forest Gump.......... In any rf circuit coupling will take place.
So 80, 40, and 20 meter single band dipoles can be placed within 1 ft of each other ?
