Hey buddy, hope to see more videos again soon, been awhile! I was happily hobbying along with your progress on my own greeks. Hope you find time for more soon. :) Great videos thus far tho!
@@kylewaayenburg8024 thanks for the comment and I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos. I am currently on quite a long break from the hobby as I got burnt out but I intend to start again in about 3-4 weeks time from now so stay tuned.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 Ah a shame that happend to you! But a hobby ought to remain just that. Sometimes you get burned out on a model. Project or altogether. Reason I tend to switch my wargames every so often too. Good luck man.
I wish Victrix had made a more varied version for the Phalangites as they are rather "at rest" and the Hypaspists are equally static looking. You could easily use the newer Hoplite set and add Macedonian helmets and shield transfers to make more dynamic Hypaspists. I have completed my own Macedonian army and posted on The Miniature Page Ancient Gallery under "My Pokey-Man Collection" if you would like to see. I used Warlord's Phalangites to create the angled sarissa effect which is what we see in the movie. The movie costumes are good and look fine but they do no depict the best thing about the Macedonians which is their colourfully painted helmets and armour. This is something which looks great on the tabletop as a distinct feature. So maybe if you do an elite phalanx (like the Silver Shields) you could introduce these coloured elements.
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree about the static poses and I am considering using other kits to add a more dynamic look but we shall see. I also agree about the movie costumes and my idea of basing it on the movies might change as I was originally planning to use a purple scheme instead, again we shall see. I will be covering the silver shields as well. Sadly I couldn’t get the miniature page ancient gallery website to load however I will try again later
Something you could do if you want a little contrast to your Spartan Cav is add white stripes to the crests. I also really like the addition now by Victrix of the banner and how the shield transfers also have a banner transfer matching those shields. Did the banner transfer sheet have maybe different colored versions of the banner transfer with the shields? I wonder if you could contact Victrix to see if you can get bitz from them. I am sure they probably have bad sprues that they might normally throw away or recycle that might have perfectly good capes or the like... that or 3D print them. Because yeah, I can see the frustration of wanting to do Spartans with capes and just not having enough capes.
Hey Tom thanks for the comment! I completely forgot to mention the banners that come in the shield transfer pack but yes they are a great addition. There’s quite a few coloured shields that come with the banners but sadly only one colour for the transfers I bought. Adding white stripes is a good option but I think I’m actually quite happy with the cavalry as they’re now honestly. I have suggested to Victrix on their website and instagram to perhaps (if possible) produce a sprue of just capes/cloaks which people could purchase and use for any era of historical miniatures.
Spartan hippeis were real. None of mine are wearing bronze armour except for the helmet and I put the shields on to look cool. They’re using javelins as well which is lighter than a spear. I know cavalry wasn’t used much especially by the Spartans but they were used.
Love this video. I like the start and the music. Do you make the music yourself? Love that there are 12 parts already. I bet you've learnt more things as you've built and painted them!
Thanks for the comment and continued support! Yes I make all the music myself for all my videos. I have learnt quite a bit since this series started and have become a more confident painter because of it.
Excellent painting and basing, top notch Spartans!
Thanks!
A man after my own heart. Basically got all the same kits I did. The Hypaspists are really cool I love those Crescent crests.
Nice! Yes I can’t wait to build and paint them.
They look great project really coming together well
Thank you!
those shileds from Ellie Oddities are cool. I've got them too.
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 they’re great shields for the Spartans

Thanks! I’m glad you like the basing, it takes a while to do but I think the end result is great.

You could try using bluestuff and milliput/greenstuff to make more cloaks.
@@invoke0ften it’s a good suggestion, I have tried a few times before but unfortunately Im really not skilled at sculpting.
