  • Welcome to our detailed exploration of the Sathyamurthi Perumal Temple in Thirumayam, a revered panchayat town in Tamil Nadu, South India. This sacred temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, is a magnificent example of Dravidian architecture. It holds a prominent place in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th to 9th centuries CE.
The Sathyamurthi Perumal Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holy abodes of Vishnu. Here, Vishnu is worshipped as Sathyamurthi Perumal, alongside his consort Lakshmi, known as Ujeevana Thayar.
Legend has it that a sage named Satya performed intense penance at this very site. Impressed by his unwavering devotion, Vishnu granted him a boon to appear whenever the sage desired. Choosing to remain by the river where he meditated, the sage's surroundings were transformed by Vishnu - the river became a Pushkarani, the rock turned into Meyyam hill, and the banyan tree transformed into an Asvatta tree. Ultimately, the sage sought and attained salvation at this holy site.
