    Errata:
Pink bubblewrap is ESD-safe. I was today years old when I learned this.

That's interesting I wonder what makes the pink stuff different from the regular?

@@BBC600 Someone explained it in a comment below.

Wow this was a trip down memory lane! I got emotional

Networking (and especially modems) seems like a commonly overlooked topic in retro computing IMO.
The pink bubblewrap is actually ESD-safe. There's a special additive of some kind to make it dissipate a static charge, and to prevent it from forming one, but it doesn't protect the contents from external sources of static discharge.

Well shit. Now I sound like a giant asshole in the feedback I left for the seller lol (I didn't leave negative feedback, just a tongue-in-cheek comment about the bubblewrap).
Now I need to decide between adding a follow-up to the feedback and sounding like an idiot, or leaving it be and sounding like an asshole AND an idiot.

It may take more time to POST when the RAM is maxed out, but it runs faster overall because you can safely disable virtual memory, which leaves the hard drive untouched and vastly increases overall system speed.

The NetScape colour scheme is so good. IE seems so slapdash by comparison, in colour and in layout.
Browser design never got so strong again, though their mild updates later in life definitely did start to look dated once the fashion was to make everything glossy. Still, it’s so well thought-out, and gloss is out of fashion again, so I always love the care put into making every UI element work together and even feel somewhat newspaper-y.

This is the same card I have for my LC475, Going to be doing much the same mod along with others, I decided I would try and enter a video for MARCHintosh this year, (on my other channel), currently in the process of filming it. Your other video on the hard drives in these was useful, as that's likely an issue I will have too, my thoughts are if it boots, I will keep it on and find some way to extract the contents of the drive (if anything useful)

If you haven't already had to do so, and if you want another model of drive original the LC III, I highly recommend tracking down an IBM WDS-L160. No rubber goop issue, and a more reliable drive overall by far. One of IBM's best. Apple firmware 1992 means it's likely an LC III pull. It's also double the space of the 80 MB ELS series.

I still find it very odd that the LC III uses the LC 500 series chime instead of the usual chime the I and II have.

I had one of these a while back and upgraded it to System 7.5.3. I had the 120MB hard drive (and 20MB of RAM!) and it had a few nice programs on it already like MS Word , some games and Adobe stuff. Had to get rid of it when I moved unfortunately but kept the hard drive as memorabilia. Great rock solid systems these were, always felt they were less fragile than Windows/PCs of the day.

Have you uploaded the software to internet archive ? I don't think 7.5 has it I can't get it to work for my lc3

I would be cautious about disassembling any hard disk drive.
You should only do this in “clean room” conditions, as any dust
Falling into the platters could cause a head crash.

    • @themaritimegirl

It's going into the trash anyway if I don't open it up. I have nothing to lose.

@@themaritimegirl just saying this as a caution for anyone. If the hard drive is going to be trashed, then by all means this is a way to see how fascinating the inner guts are put together.
