As the Venezuelans have slowly redistributed wealth, invested in services to their citizens, and diversified their economy, with help and support from Iran and other Global South partners, they've slowly stabilized their economy. Don't forget that $250B+ of their treasury and silver reserves is in the UK and EU. So the comparison is literally comparing produce w/ technology.
Regarding Venezuela, you have to take into account that they're still being sanctioned and that the US is waging economic warfare on them.

This last market adjustment was just the beginning. What makes me sad is the retail investors "regular Americans" buying what they think is a dip - when it's really a Dead Cat Bounce. I don't think the markets can make any more NEW all time highs. I think we will see lower lows and lower highs - in a down down down pattern. Once the bankruptcies really start to kick off and more banks fail the unemployment numbers will rise and pensions will fail while at the same time home values will drop and foreclosures will kick off. Buying a dead cat bounce and staying in a collapsing market is the fastest way to go broke. Imagine being in banking and your bank fails, you lose your job, you 401k gets gutted and the equity in your home disappears? Just imagine that scenario. It's going to really suck over the next several months and I don't believe that even 10% of Americans are paying attention. Sean doesn't understand the average American can't afford food anymore. Supermarket food prices have gotten beyond the reach of non-professionals. Food Banks and government food assistance aren't just for the poor anymore. Americans are used to cheap food so it's shocking to the average American that the cost of food baskets have doubled or tripled over the last couple of years and food prices rise by the week. There is no food shortage it's just speculation and corporate price gouging driving up prices, but the government must mystify it. Comparisons to Venezuela or the Soviet Union are crazy, Harris is trying to address one big problem for voters, high food prices, even Nixon embraced price controls in the 70's.

Price gouging doesn't necessarily mean profit, because it also means less sales.
If basic-food prices get higher, this means less sales on junk food , candy , fruits , etc.
It also means less quantities bought, this is not a good thing for these companies as they rely on volume and mass production.

We had price controls in Britain. It did work very well. It was called "resale price maintenance". The only losers were advertising agencies and there was a small saving in staff pay
Inflation is basically over creation of money. Price control will not solve that problem, it will fuel a black market and create shortages for needed products.
What if the state nationalises certain strategic sectors of the economy and no longer runs then strictly for profit but instead implements policies designed specifically to alleviate the worse kinds of poverty and builds up a mixed economy that is more robust, like China did/ does?
