Introduction to Pilotage

Pilotage is being able to navigate safely into and out of a harbour/anchorage/port knowing where you are at all times, where your hazards are and a safe route in/out. This is particularly useful if you are heading into somewhere new or a challenging/busy area - or both!
Knowledge and experience of some simple pilotage techniques could open up where you can go boating.
Do you know your transits from your clearing bearings? How do you use a contour line to guide you into somewhere?

Thanks for this. I was a sailing instructor in my youth but have not been on a boat for over 30 years. I recently got a small yacht and I am trying to remember everything I had forgot. I have been working my way through all of your videos and they are the best on youtube by far. Keep up the good work.

SuperDupper!! But @min 13:17.. you will not have that Fl R 2.5s 15m light into your stern. You will have it first on your port broad reach, and once you will see the bridge light in 308 deg, you will change towards it and you will have that light into your stern :) I do love all your videos, and right now I'm recap for my YMO (wish me luck please!!) :)))
