Emmy is like a mental health boost in 9 minute increments. Whenever I feel down or upset, a few Emmy videos and everything seems just a bit more managable.
What I'm realizing I love the most about this channel is the absolute lack of judgement in each and every video. Though you will occasionally (like in the videos with cuts of meat from the dollar store) tell people that they'll get better value with a better product, you never pass judgement on a product even if you don't like it. There's a real understanding that yes, while something might not be the healthiest (or tastiest) choice, it could be the only or most affordable option for someone and I just can't tell you enough how much I appreciate that. Too often you see people reviewing things and talking about the laziness inherent in a product or how awful processed food is vs fresh food. I just love that you bring empathy and understanding to the table with your, frankly excellent, descriptions of what you're tasting.
Hey there, retired army cook here. I dont know that there are dates on the individual bags, the box they come in has a creation date and a special sticker that changes colors overtime to show if they are still safe to eat. If there is a production number on it somewhere, it would likely be a year (last 2 digits) then a number from 1-365, indicating which day of the year it was packaged. MREs are good for many many years though, so im sure your safe. lol This one actually looks like the newest iteration of MREs so its no more than 10 years old.
This video is 4 years old, and I'm watching it on the very last hours of 2020, which has been a crazy, unbelievable year. That being said, I have enjoyed all of her videos that I have seen so far. Takes a lot of stress away. Thanks, Emmy!
I've noticed a lot of the gum in the MREs is cinnamon, which isn't an uncommon gum flavour but not as common in stores as mint. I wonder if that's because mint can make your mouth really sensitive to cold, so it's not good for if you're eating an MRE in a cold environment. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and people just like cinnamon gum.
there's date codes on some of the mre packs a 4 digit code for example 4233 this would be packaged on the 233 day of 2014 or same date code on one 10 years older also that's the problem with American date codes but that's how you tell when they were packaged
I love MRE's! The first time I ever tasted these was back when hurricane Katrina hit and we were left with no power for weeks. We were given a big box full of these.
The best part about being homeless after hurricane Katrina was the MRE's. Delicious. preparing them was kinda fun and interesting which helped to take my mind off of my troubles for a few minutes a day.
My favorite thing about your videos is you describe things to memories, it's like something you would have at a birthday party when you were 6, which I loved. While I don't know anyone in the military but I'm glad that these MRE's can remind soldiers of home even if it's in different way.
They are pretty good for what they are. I bought one off Amazon a couple of years ago. Ebay also sells them, or there are sites that specialise in selling MREs and other survival/army surplus stuff.
Generally there should be a 4digit # stamped in black ink or imprinted into the bag itself, it does sometimes take a careful eye, and not every MRE will have one on the bag, but every component of the MRE should have the 4 digit # on it somewhere. then all you have to do is take the last 3 numbers and that will be the day it was packaged, and the 1st number will give you the year it was packaged. so a 5108 would mean it was packaged on the 108th day of 2015. 3287 would mean it was packaged on the 287th day of 2013
Emmy, my Lovely. The date code is embossed on the bag edge, and also printed on most of the components. It's a four-digit code with the first numeral being the year and the last three the Julian date. So 5023 would be 2015, and the 23rd day. Or Jan 23, 2015. Canada uses five digits, with a two-digit year code to eliminate the decade confusion that ours can cause. (Is it 2015, 2005, 1995, or...?)
Emmy, look for a 4 digit code on the outer packaging for a date of when the MRE was packed. There are also 4 digit codes on each snack, meal or drink. The 4 digit code will look like this for example: 3016. This means it was either packaged on the 16th day of 2003 or the 16th day of 2013. Normally people can tell by the packaging itself if it is new or old. Hoped this helped.
I'm glad to see you put the heater element in the middle between the two meal packs. It seems a more efficient use of the available energy for heating.
Here's the Dollar Tree version. The entree is made with canned chicken, cream of chicken soup, sun-dried tomatoes, and feta cheese from the refrigerated section: Assured Antibacterial Wet Wipes, 3 ct. Baker’s Harvest Garden Vegetable Baked Crackers, 7 oz. Brown Plastic Utensils, 48 ct. Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup, 10.5 oz. Crider Premium White Chicken, 5 oz. Diamond Strike-on-Box Matches, 10 ct. Domino Granulated Sugar, 1 lb. Everyday Table Shakers Salt & Pepper Set Galen Sun-Dried Tomato Halves, 3.53 oz. Hawaiian Punch Wild Purple Smash Singles to Go, 8 ct. Kleenex to Go Packs, 3 ct. Nestle Coffee Mate Powdered Coffee Creamer, 6 oz. Nestle Taster’s Choice House Blend Coffee Packets, 6 ct. Nikos Feta Cheese, 2 oz. Ocean Spray Craisins Select Choice Chewy Coated Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, 4 ct. Stove Top Cornbread Stuffing Velveeta Cheese Sauce Pouch, 4 oz. Wrigley’s Big Red Gum, 4 ct.
Love these!!!. Since my boyfriend joined the marines he always told me how much he liked the MREs they gave him during the crucible etc. I never knew what they were until he talked about them so much. Haha
I love how she never puts down a food even if she doesn't particularly like it. She gives a very solid review without being too strong if that makes sense! :)
Your such a good sport! I was in the service (Army) in the 90's and I'll tell you the options were not as pleasurable as they seem to be now. I never used the warmer (which it's true, they were slim and timing was a factor) BUT we had these tiny glass tabasco sauce bottles in most of the MRE's and that of course helped flavor everything! Love watching you eat the MRE's .. again .. a great sport!
Hi Emmy! I know this is late, but you decode the dates by finding the ingraved numbers on the bottom of the package. They are not colored, but engraved so you will have to look for them. Once you find it, the numbers will be in a code like 5121. The last 3 numbers are the day of when it was made, and the first number is the year. Cheers! For example, that code would be the 121st day of 2015
i never knew about these until i started watching your series and i found out a while back that they sell the peanut butter and toast and other things at the Costco where I live.
The new MREs are so much better than the old MREs of the old days of the 1990's & early 2000's. The reason why we ate ours cold & did not use the heater provided in the military was because we were on the go. We did not have time to wait for them to heat up. We did not have time to wait for the heaters to cool. down so we could safely throw it away. Plus we saved the heaters to make MRE bombs to prank people with while training.
The date code is 4 numbers. The first number corresponds to the year it was made. The next 3 numbers correspond to the day of the year. So 5267 would be the 267th day of 2015 for example
I love how it literally only takes a splash of water to heat these Rations. Very convenient for soldiers especially if they only have the water they bring (really not sure about that) to use.
Emmy I do believe that the four numbers on the individual items indicate on what date they were packaged. The first indicates the year and the last three indicate the day. So, e.g. the date the stuffing was packaged would be the 259th day of 2012.
I love the mre videos that's why I started watching you. If you get them send them my way and I'll eat them. My dad was in the navy and we feasted on meat for years
In Japan, it’s common to say itadakimasu before eating a meal. The word itadakimasu is often translated as “I humbly receive,” but when relating to food, it’s often compared to saying “Let’s eat,” “Bon appétit,” or “Thanks for the food.” Some even compare it to the Christian tradition of saying grace before a meal. It is saying thanks for the food,v thanking the animals and plants who provided you your meal.
That looked like a really good MRE (except the energy bar - blech)! I'm used to VERY OLD ones where anything chicken looks, well, we won't get into EXACTLY what it looks like but I can assure you, it's not appetizing. That chicken looked like chicken! You are adorable & I'm still powering through your videos. You are my new favorite indulgence!
Date code is normally on the Sealed part of the outer bag, but if not, each inner pouch will also be date coded Eg: 2315 would be the 231st day of 2015 (or 2005 if it's a really old one)
Hey emmy, the date code on an MRE is a 4 digit number on each of the food items. The first digit of the 4 digit code is the last digit of a year. The next 3 digits denote the day of the year that it was produced. For example, 5116. 5 would mean it was produced in 2015 (or 2005), and 116 would mean that it was produced on the 116th day of that year.
Exactly - and they are stamped (pressure indentations) or actual ink stamped on the seams of the plastic/retort bags, and on the boxes - usually on the ingredient side.
The date code for each food item is usually stamped somewhere on each individual package. There should be a 4 digit number. The first number is the year it was manufactured and the rest of the numbers stand for which day of the year it was manufactured. For example, if it says 7354, it was manufactured in 2007, on the 354th day of that year (December 20th). I hope this helps.
each product in the bag will have a 4 digit number on it. the first number stands for the year (if the number was 9021 then that means it was made it 2009) the next 3 numbers stands for what day out of the year it was made(if the number was 9021 then that means it was made on the 21st day of the year aka January 21st) hopefully this helped and sorry if someone else already said this, I didn't read all of the comments. :)
Hey Emmy, If I remember correctly the date code is a four digit number with the first number being the last number of the year and the next three being the corresponding day. For example 5133 is the 133rd day of 2015. It's printed on the bags.
I dont know if someone already said this, I don't want to look through all the comments to check... Somewhere on the outside of the large package or on the food package itself there will be a four digit number. The first number states the year and the next three are the day of that year. For example 3247 is the 247th day of 2013, or September 4th, 2013.

Objectivism. The world could use more of that.
Cool
Yes, Emmy is so wonderfully inclusive & nonjudgemental
does anyone ever watch emmy to relax? no? just me? okay lol
You're not alone! lol... Her voice is so soothing and relaxing!
I do too. Though my husband says she comes across uppity or stuck up? I don't see that at all.
+Alana Robertson (Mrs Bungle) I don't see her as stuck up or uppity as well, I find her to be sweet and down to earth 😊
yep
I come home from work, get in bed and watch a few videos before I take a glorious nap
she describes food so well...I can almost taste it myself
That's what I like about her. :D

I love the noises Emmy makes when she chews to say if she likes it or not lol. Those high pitched noises are so funny.
Same 😂
Lol XD I enjoy it too surprisingly and how she talks too
Ikr. Whenever she does the short high pitched,"hmm" that means she likes it.
ahaha so true
Someone needs to make a supercut
This video is 4 years old, and I'm watching it on the very last hours of 2020, which has been a crazy, unbelievable year. That being said, I have enjoyed all of her videos that I have seen so far. Takes a lot of stress away. Thanks, Emmy!
I literally have no life I’ve been watching her all day. Since I’ve woke up and it’s almost time to sleep
Did u eat?
Name request for the ration tasting series: "EmmyRE".
Or EmRE
I've noticed a lot of the gum in the MREs is cinnamon, which isn't an uncommon gum flavour but not as common in stores as mint. I wonder if that's because mint can make your mouth really sensitive to cold, so it's not good for if you're eating an MRE in a cold environment. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and people just like cinnamon gum.
Maybe cinnamon helps refresh you or something
Sounds reasonable to me. Mint definitely makes your mouth chill when you breathe in.
cinnamon is also good for your teeth (according to Google)
ive never tasted cinnamon gum
Kikyo4815 its xios gum
The reason i continue watching emmy is because she has the perfect description of words for everything she tries for me to understand

Oldsmokey interesting never knew that!!
You can't open them because you didn't pass basic training soldier Emmy! LOL
Haha lol
Amen! I always thought you should earn a badge for being able to open up an MRE under 30 secs. Lol!
I love MRE's! The first time I ever tasted these was back when hurricane Katrina hit and we were left with no power for weeks. We were given a big box full of these.

I really wanna buy an MRE, they look really appetising
ikr! do you know where I can buy some?
Look up MRE on amazon.com!
They are pretty good for what they are. I bought one off Amazon a couple of years ago. Ebay also sells them, or there are sites that specialise in selling MREs and other survival/army surplus stuff.
Amazon sells them :)
My mom hated those thing while she was in the army
Love these vids :). She's always so eloquent in speaking!!
Absolutely loving your content! Your beautiful smile and personality is so refreshing.

exactly!!

Love these!!!. Since my boyfriend joined the marines he always told me how much he liked the MREs they gave him during the crucible etc. I never knew what they were until he talked about them so much. Haha
So interesting! I knew nothing about these til you came along Emmy.☺
Love these MRE reviews!! Keep em coming 😊
I love how she never puts down a food even if she doesn't particularly like it. She gives a very solid review without being too strong if that makes sense! :)

You need your own show on Netflix I swear. I could fall asleep to your voice lol so soothing
I would love to see more vlogs 😉 your voice is so soothing ❤️ xo
Is it just me that finds MRE videos in the best!?! Love your vids Emmy keep it up!
Hi Emmy! I know this is late, but you decode the dates by finding the ingraved numbers on the bottom of the package. They are not colored, but engraved so you will have to look for them. Don't think I've ever been this early to an Emmy video!! So excited to see another MRE in my sub box
i never knew about these until i started watching your series and i found out a while back that they sell the peanut butter and toast and other things at the Costco where I live.
I love watching your MRE videos, keep going👏🏼
That stuffing looks like a tamale Lol
Hey I am from Wisconsin!
The new MREs are so much better than the old MREs of the old days of the 1990's & early 2000's. I can almost taste the foods you tried because you're so well at describing how they taste
You are a trooper for trying this stuff imagine our armed forces have to eat this bless them it is nice watching u you are a sweetheart
I have watched all your MRE videos, and I'm
Hoping you make another video very soon.I love watching your MRE videos.
Emmy I do believe that the four numbers on the individual items indicate on what date they were packaged. The first indicates the year and the last three indicate the day. So, e.g. the date the stuffing was packaged would be the 259th day of 2012.
yessssss, another MRE. I love your videos Emmy!:)))

THE ENERGY BAR SLAYS MY WHOLE LIFE, IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND ONE FOR OVER 3 YEARS.
I love how she says "hello my beautiful lovelies" I feel like shes talking to me :) when she says that
In Japan, it’s common to say itadakimasu before eating a meal. I love all your videos but I have to say the MREs are my favorite. 💜
Hello emmy ... Please do more MRE videos i enjoy them so much! 😊 i have watched all the other ones
Date code is normally on the Sealed part of the outer bag, but if not, each inner pouch will also be date coded Eg: 2315 would be the 231st day of 2015 (or 2005 if it's a really old one)

Your voice is so soft and satisfying Emmy~~
Am I the only person who likes Emmy's videos BEFORE I watch them? Emmy is just "so stinkin cute"!
I'v had this MRE. It was amazing. I want a bunch of them in stock for when I want something quick & delicious.
I love your videos emmy!
Emmy, what do you do with all the leftover food? Do you eat all of it or share with your family because I always wonder when I watch your videos.
I WAITED FOR ANOTHER MRE VIDEO THANKKKK GOODNESSS ❤
I love this series so much ^^
Watchin this instead of going to sleep for the first day of school tomm.. Addicting
each product in the bag will have a 4 digit number on it. the first number stands for the year (if the number was 9021 then that means it was made it 2009) the next 3 numbers stands for what day out of the year it was made(if the number was 9021 then that means it was made on the 21st day of the year aka January 21st) hopefully this helped and sorry if someone else already said this, I didn't read all of the comments. :)
Emmy's that type of person that almost anybody would love to have as a close friend
Hey Emmy,
If I remember correctly the date code is a four digit number with the first number being the last number of the year and the next three being the corresponding day. For example 5133 is the 133rd day of 2015. It's printed on the bags.
Gatorade Fierce Grape is the only blue grape drink I've ever had. I remember being pretty surprised at the color too.
You have a very soothing and calm voice
It's a 2012 I think
There will be 4 numbers that represent the day of the year, and the year.
today is 6197 (6 being 2016)
I love these, I just got so excited
I love these videos!
Your voice is so soothing!
I dont know if someone already said this, I don't want to look through all the comments to check... Somewhere on the outside of the large package or on the food package itself there will be a four digit number. The first number states the year and the next three are the day of that year. For example 3247 is the 247th day of 2013, or September 4th, 2013.
Hey Emmy just wanted to say hi and I love you and your videos 😊
