- In Northern Mali, the Kounta nomads continue their age-old tradition of traversing the desert to reach the salt mines of southern Algeria. Over 40 days, they cover 1500 km on foot to obtain 6 tonnes of "white gold" from the Taoudenni mines. This epic journey, known as Azalai, is a testament to their resilience and endurance.
