I stopped painting with watercolour years ago but watching your videos makes me want to get them out again, I love the combination of realistic yet whimsical look of your work, something I used to strive toards. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks once again Fiona for giving me such joy in watching your technique I did watch and paint with you a few months ago your free Roses tutorial and it was lovely to get this reinforced again in this video. I certainly will watch this one over and over again 😀👏🙏
I so enjoy watching your videos. Your tone and the way you paint is calming and encouraging. I find myself wanting to become more expressive in my art making because of your videos. Thank you. Your artwork is beautiful.
Great style. Very beautiful. One tip: imagine your irises as full circles and have your pupil placement centered. Currently the pupils were placed on the upper edge of the iris. Best to you, you’re awesome.
Hi Fiona, I just discovered your channel today and binged almost every video. Absolutely love your style! I’m 68 years old, self taught and live in Richmond, Tx. Love your drawings too!
This was a fascinating as well as beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing your technique. I think there can be a more than subtle difference between a sketchbook, and an art journal. A sketchbook is a place for play, notes, experiments, unfinished bits, practice, various media and techniques, and whatever else. An art journal is often less messy and more finished looking. It could still be experimental in terms of techniques and color.
I agree. I have some really rather horrid looking sketchbooks too! And I’ve shown them and will show more of them on here. But it’s from those “ugly” sketchbooks that ideas are born . ❤️
Thank you for sharing how you paint your eyes as I think that's what got me to your page the first time. I remember thinking how "glassy" and dimensional they were and that they were looking back at you, a lovely lesson.

Hi Fiona! I recently joined your Patreon page, but now I see there is a Skillshare page as well. Which one offers more in terms of lessons? On Patreon I noticed a lot of Zoom with your students, which I am not able to attend, so I am wondering if Skillshare is a better choice for me. Thank you so much and I love, love, love your techniques!
@@RobinJayneArtTickles hello! I have more tutorials on Patreon then Skillshare. They’re all in Collectons and divided into categories as well as the recordings from the zoom sessions for those who can’t attend. Please let me know if you need any help finding anything feel free to email me as well . Fiona x
This is what I was waiting for, your eyes 👀 are what made me subscribe to your channel. Your work is always beautiful, it's like entering another world. Just out of curiosity, do you do any monsters or ghouls for Halloween? The thought of one with your stunning eyes is quite interesting.
I loved this video and the one with autumn leaves ❤ I have never used a journal because I wonder what you can do with a painting you are proud of which is stuck in a book with a line down the middle. (Absolute beginner here, no critisism meant) Is it not better to paint on loose paper sheets or tear out sheets? Can anyone help me to understand? A sketchbook, I understand. ❤❤
Because I like it to read as a book and if I love something I do in here, I can create them in larger paper. Working in these sketchbooks has “ unstuck” my art. Let’s say they are projects for larger painting 😊
Hello Fiona, I came back to watch this again, and I was noticing there was a dark ring around the iris the whole time you were painting, and then you mentioned to put the dark ring around the iris at the end… Is this because you were working a pencil or ink drawing as a base? Did you start off with pure watercolor as your sketch or was it something else like pencil? Thank you :-)
Hello. I think it might have been pencil. There was no ink. I might have pressed harder knowing I’d make that ring around the iris dark in the end because I always do . Sometimes when I paint portraits with really deep skin, I might use a fine liner to go in and enhance certain features as the pencil guidelines might disappear under darker skin

@@justtubingby129 because they aren’t or rather , they are, but according to the position, to how much of the eyeball you can see and how much of the eyelid covers the eye, they can appear to be in a different position and the same applies to the irises. Hello, I'm a bit confused, I'd love to learn this, but are you letting paint dry before you line the eyes?
Yes, I am x
I like your style but why do you not center the pupils in the eye?
