There was always something Apollonian about the man-always warm, but at the same time logical, disciplined-an architect with a perfect sense of balance and proportion. Take the A Major here: it’s a waltz, of course, but nobody else dares play it like one. Now I can’t hear it any other way.
I studied with Sebok at Ernenmusikdorf, his Swiss summer music festival that he instituted to find international students to study with him at Indiana University.. He played the Wanderer Fantasy of Schubert in the church and I can tell you that it was a great performance; fastidious and majestic.. Here he plays Brahms with introspection and intelligence. He was also an excellent coach.
Yes, likewise. Wonderful couple of weeks. Unforgettable. May I add that #6 turns every other interpretation on its head... not to mention leaving them all in the dust.
The interpretations of the ballad is one of the best solution what ever I heard. Both themes are getting a unity, there is no much difference, like the most of the interpretations of the other pianists. I heard in the 2nd part un echo from the first part, because Sebok hold the tempo of the first part. Fantastic! Also the crossings from one part to the other part are very sensitive and make sense at all. The tempo is a bit to fast but the piece gets like a forming a uniform and integrated whole.
