The op. 18 variations are from one of the amazing string sextets from Brahms' early years. First time I've heard it on piano. Is this one of Brahms' many piano transcriptions of his own works? Love Zimerman...so unerringly musical. Places his huge technique to the utter service of the composer's intentions.

I had his Brahms Piano Sonatas 1 and 2 on LP. I believe the Sonata No 3 was in this box set...
