    12 Amps results in 12² * 0.1 = 14.4Watts dissipation in a 3 Watt resistor!!

    you need to add a min of a zener or may be a TL431 to have good stability in output voltage.. plus as somebody pointed out with heavy heatsink you can at best get 60w across the transistor. which means at 10v out put at best 2amps can be drawn....

    Für größere Leistungen nimmt man Schaltregler, die einstellbar und selbstregelnd, unstabiler Eingang zu stabilem Ausgang. Und wenig Wärmeverluste.

    il 2N3055 è per massimo 3-5A ,inoltre qunado ben raffreddato può dissipare max 60W !!!!

    Сгорит нахрен! Радиатор в студию! 40 вольт, 12 ампер - это 480 ватт, радиатор надо 10000 кв. см. и с вентилятором.

    Jeder LEISTUNGSTRANSISTOR MUSS MIT EINEM KÜHL- KÖRPER MONTIERT WERDEN, je größer je besser. Die Schaltung ist praktisch eine einstellbare Z diode, wird in Verstärkern zur Ruhestromeinstellung gebraucht.

    Öncelikle teşekkür ederiz 3055 ile ilgi rf devresi isteyebilirim sizden yillar önce böyle bir uzay montaj yapıyordum darlikton bir baglanti yaparken fm radyo calisiyordu ve onun frekansi etkiledi .

    is this a variable input and output voltage regulator?
    if so, can this be used between a car alternator and the electronic components, to protect the components from higher voltage when the alternator diode goes bad?

      Транзистор 2N3055 има при ток Ic = 10A усилване Hfe = 13. Токът на основата Ibmax трябва да бъде 10 000 mA / 13 = 769 mA. Има съпротивление от 270 ома. Действителният Ibmax ще бъде Un / 270 = 40v / 270 Ohm = 148 mA. Вторият проблем: Потенциалът на 20k дава Ibmax = Un / 10270 Ohm = 40v / 10270 Ohm = 3 mA. Създателят на електрониката не разбира. Прави си от другите луди.

      How much can the potentiometer disappaite? Ideally need an extra driver transistor configured with the 2N3055 as a Darlington pair. As an alternative there's the PNP MJ2955 configured with an NPN driver transistor as a Szikali pair. Personally I think the supply on Kaysan tv would perform better than a single potentiometer transistor supply though may not go as high in voltage. Additional components such as zener diodes, driver transistors and extra pass transistors are required to improve overall performance of a supply such as mentioned earlier from this simple set up.

      @@robertneill3057 The design's author was supposed to connect 4 H3 24V 70W bulbs to the output and prove by measuring the current his claim that the source would give 12A. The source will give 0.5A max. The author doesn't understand the weak current. Any adjustments are meaningless. You can't cool a transistor.
