"Hate?" was at the two and a half hour point during a three hour and forty minute concert. You would think that for that many high-energy songs the Maids would be exhausted. They're troopers and just keep on playing those fast-paced, high-energy songs until the end.
They are little dynamos; they did 3 shows in 2 days... early Friday morning (1:00am) they finished an 18 song set at the Chicago venue, Park West. Then 12 hours later, they were the 2nd band of the day to perform on this stage at Lollapalooza on Chicago lakefront in @ 90 degree heat with that midwestern humidity Friday afternoon, 13 song set. The 3rd show was in Minneapolis on Sunday, where I saw them live for the first time. That sold out show was excellent with no let down and was a 19 song set. Miku's (red rose) Flappy Pigeon has mother of pearl roses and abalone leaves with a pigeon and feathers engraved on the metal plate. The metal plate itself is shaped like a pigeon... this could only be her guitar, also there are only 70 of these signature guitars out there. Kanami has a number of PRS's... green, red, purple, grey, and brown... her Private Stock custom is gold, looks like a sunset over water (used in "Forbidden Tale" MV).... and her new Signature "Kanami" is Trampas Green Smokeburst, and she uses that one in the new MV, "Zen".
Now & Zen i wonder what makes BAND-MAID so special. Is it their extraordinary musicianship & extensive catalogue of non cookie cutter awesome songs? Is it the messages of positivity & never say die attitude themes that features in a lot of their songs? Or is it the exemplary way they conduct themselves both on & off stage & the special relationship & love they have for the fans? Then i realised it's a mixture of all three of those things...And a Mincho.😁❤
Now, on to "Honkai"! The video titled Band-Maid "Honkai" SPIN-OFF on RUclips has one of the best bass/drum intros I have ever heard in any song. On this one MISA's bass tone is otherworldly. You'll love it!
The red guitar was one of her main PRS workhorses for shows (and practice, from a couple of studio videos of her playing) before she got the signature model, which is actually pretty similar (other than the color). She also has a couple of other similar PRS guitars, at least one green one and one yellow one. Rock on, Flarez, great reaction again!
During a rehearsal for "Hate?" shown on their Band-Maid Prime channel, the Maids played this fast-paced, high energy song, complete with the conversation/duel between Kanami and MISA, casually and non-chalantly. It was like, "ho-hum, let's concentrate on getting our parts right on this one move on to the next. These young women are true professionals. They know and practice every note of every song so they almost never mess it up. Then, when it's time to put on a show to put their amazing skills on full display without any worry about screwing up.
MISA has 7 easily identifiable basses. There are a few photos that show she has at least 11 basses and 4 guitars as well as a piano and an electric drum set. Kanami, has a few photos showing that she has at least 15 guitars, 3 basses, a grand piano, upright piano, electric piano, several synthesizers and an electric drum kit. But she has 9 main identifiable guitars, starting with her 2 AddicTone's up to her newest Signature Guitar. Saiki, has said that she has custom ordered a Yairi Acoustic guitar, and she has an electronic piano. Miku has 11 guitars that are identifiable , but photo evidence shows she owns about 16 guitars. There are photos that Kanda Shokai the main company that owns Zemaitis who makes her signature model guitar, have had displays showing ALL of Miku's guitars, including her Rickenbacker's, and even her Yamaha Travel guitars. There was an interview once where she "Guessed" she owned 16 guitars, but wasn't sure. Akane has at least 4 identifiable drum kits, besides rented ones when they tour outside of the US. They are kits by Sakae, Sonor, Pearl and Tama. She has been shown in a practice studio with at least 11 different snare drums. She has multiple Ludwig and Gretsch snares, in addition to snares by Tama, Sakae, Pearl, Sonor and I saw 2 I couldn't identify the badge on.

Someone on the Discord did a back of envelope calculation on the cost of all of the Ladies instruments and equipment, including their soundboard and wireless setup, and the total was just under 650 thousand. Akane's current drum kit, the shells alone cost about 16 thousand. Everything all together, cymbals, snare, and hardware it's about 21 thousand. With her older kits added in, she has close to 42 thousand in drums, cymbals and hardware. Miku has 1 guitar that costs almost 11 thousand at the old exchange rates/ At the current exchange rate it's about 9,400.00. Her signature models, of which she owns 2, one of them, the original prototype, they cost about 5 thousand each. MISA's signature model which she also has 2 of them also cost about 5 thousand each. Her other basses cost between 1 thousand and 3,500.00 each. So the Ladies put their money where their mouths are. If you are not familiar with RUSH, before they retired, their full road rig, which they owned outright, included their own trucking company, their own lighting company and employed I think 90 people full time. Between tours, RUSH contracted out their equipment and employees, to keep the money coming in. I have a feeling, that in a few years, the Ladies of Band-Maid may be going that route themselves.

I notice that reviewers new to Band Maid tend to get confused about the lead guitarist (Kanami Tōno) and the rhythm guitarist/backup singer/founder (Miku Kobato). I think part of that confusion comes from the nickname for Kanami, which is Mincho. In Japan, family and friends often add a suffix of endearment to an abbreviated version of the name. My younger sister in law, Kazuko, is called Kako-chan, for example. If the name ends in an "i", -incho might be added to an abbreviated version of the name. So, Kanami becomes Mincho. Unfortunately, that is pretty close to Miku for those not used to Japanese names.
I'd recommend do studio for the base version first, because the live versions have rearranged song versions in a lot of the cases. The call and response isn't in the studio version as you might know imagine. Red PRS was her model she bought before her signature model was released
She's had 'Angry Larry' for a few years, just prior to her signature model she bought a Private Stock dirty blonde, quilt top Custom 24-08 which is what she based her signature model on
Anybody can get a PRS, but to get your own signature model is another story ! PRS made 200 of Kanami's guitar, they sold out in less than 24 hrs. 😏❤️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘
You mixed up the guitarists names in the first video. The one in the battle was Kanami, the lead guitarist (she shreds). Miku was up by the drums doing background singing and rhythm guitar. They do each have multiple guitars, but each sticks to their favorite brand. All of Kanami's are PRS. Miku uses Zemaitis guitars. The one you remarked on has an ornately engraved "Duralumin" top. Misa uses Black Cloud bass guitars.

PRS just stands for the creator's name, Paul Reed Smith. He makes amps as well. When they sing that harmony note bend, that always sounds like Dai Kirai, but it isn't. They're singing Nai Kara. However, Dai Kirai, Big Dislike, is the closest thing to Hate in Japanese. Saiki said she just like the way" I Hate You" sounded in English. Kanami is Lead Guitar and Composer. But there is no Mika. Miku is Backing Vocals and Rhythm Guitar and Lyricist, though Saiki wrote the words for this song. Did you catch the line about "Ten minutes of limp gymnastics" and "A stack of failure"? She don't not like them, whoever they are.
Dude, just make yourself a cheat sheet until you get the names sorted. 😏 If you think of the guitar/bass battle as a couple's loud argument heard through an apartment wall, that's the vibe that goes with the song lyric content.
