In an interview Saiki talked about the lyrics she wrote for this song. She was looking at music history, found songs and stories that had been forbidden but were now being recreated using new tech. Found inspiration from them and then wondered if long after she is gone if people will also be inspired by their music. The lyrics are about connecting with someone from the past through their art and also connecting through your own art with someone in the future.
The Maids are already connecting with the younger generation. With NEKi, who are teenagers, doing their cover of "Choose Me" and most recently the family band, Missioned Souls, doing their cover of "Bestie"... more teenagers and the drummer is 11. If you haven't heard it yet, it's spot on and impressive.
Always a great reaction / review of the Maids you bring to us. I know how much joy these ladies bring to my ears and heart. It only increases when I see other people who get it, you my friend, you get it. When I was first getting into them, I was .... holy crap they are great for women... now that I've listened to everything they've done. I've come to the overall appreciation of what they bring to the table... incredible musicality, great imagination in song construction and development, and melodies/lyrics that can run the full gauntlet of emotions. As a metalhead in his 50's, I would have never guessed how I would be so taken in by hard rock done with a proper woman's touch. Yea, a group of dudes playing this instrumentally could pull it off, but with Saiki's vocals and the solid backup by Miku, the guys don't have a chance. I hear ya on the Saiki thing, if she were to look my way, I'd probably would hand over my soul to her. But if Miku was near, I'd be standing there with the biggest smile and my heart would probably explode from the joy. I love em all, I'd go drinking barefoot with MISA, I'd eat stomach exploding amounts of ramen with Akane and talk music with Kanami over coffee and cakes.
All very true. I have found that it is very hard to explain what the Maids are and the special place they have in the world of rock. I myself up until I found Band Maid five years ago had a bit of a closed mind and only listened to a certain type of rock or metal. But their eclectic style has actually opened up so much music for me. And they will always have me as an avid fan.
Nice reaction/review of another really good Band-Maid song from their latest album Epic Narratives which is packed with great tracks. Their new single ZEN is at leat on a par with Forbidden Tale and possibly even better. It has a great Kanami guitar solo in it featuring her new PRS signature guitar
You nailed it Eric. I've spent a lot of money over the past 4 years on BAND-MAID's CDs, DVDs, and concert livestreams and it's not because they're cute. Maidiacs aren't spending thousands of dollars flying all over the world to see them play just so they can stare at them on stage and drool. We're spending our money because they are a fantastic band that writes amazing music. The cute part is just a bonus. 😁
Excellent analysis as always sir. I particularly liked the comment about how they use the two languages to make the song sound as good as possible. When you read them in interviews it's clear that it's something they put a lot of work into. I tend to think of Forbidden Tale as a rhapsody (seven themes developed in four and a half minutes) something that's hard to find in rock music. Few bands venture into this type of composition and you have to give Band Maid credit for always trying to offer something different. Thank you!!
You are one of the few reactors who can react like 50th or some such and we Maidiacs will STILL learn a little sumpin sumpin new. I really like the way you broke down the "build" of a song in general terms and then how Band Maid goes about it. Unique insights.
Really respect your process when you do these reactions! Thoughtful comments from a seasoned listener. I think song is epic. The subject matter especially has a grand scale touching both mortality and the immortal nature of music. Pristine tackle box! 😊
Thanks for the great reaction and analysis of their music. Band-Maid, for me, has the power to make any day feel just more joyous, their music is just so damn good it should be more popular.
Always love you thoughts and opinions, very well said and communicated👍 Never cared what the maids wore but I'm glad they went away from the more leggy look in the beginning
Great commentary, Eric! Yeah, that's one of the things with Band-Maid -- always something catchy or interesting to draw you in. But then, oh yeah, there's layers and harmonies and great song construction, and... and... 🤘
Interesting comments. I think I first heard Band-Maid on Amazon where it gives suggestions for music. That thing where if you like this, you might also like this. I listened to 30 seconds of a few songs and decided to buy the World Domination CD. I was attracted to that nostalgic 80's rock/metal sound with the nice guitar riffs and tone but probably more surprised by the excellent drumming (lots of double bass drum sounded really great in this style), bass and clean vocals. Some super famous rock bands didn't have rhythm sections anything near as good as Band-Maid. I knew it was an all female band but I wasn't really paying attention to their looks or maid outfits, just the music. It just sounded really good. Later I finally saw some videos on RUclips of some later tracks and got more hooked on the band and also realized that they are good looking.

Such a great song, a blend of a lot of styles. Their new single ZEN is straight up on fire! So good! No need to worry if you met her, Saiki wouldn't take those things, she's a very caring person.
Great reaction. You have great ears and sensibility. I agree with all your comments. They are the real deal and are growing every day. They show the truth through their music to people who only see things in their imagination. And that's what they are. I've been seeing and listening to great bands and artists for over 50 years, but Bandmaid will definitely go down in history. I believe the day will soon come when they will headline a big festival or tour. They are one of the best rock bands in the world today.
Thank you for your knowledgeable analysis of several BM songs. Rarely do you see a band with so much respect for their profession and their audience. You can listen to a song many times and discover new cool details each time. And they just get better and better. Pure quality.
Band-Maid can pull nostalgia out of thin air. I was a huge System of a Down fan every now and then I hear a riff or fill that brings me right back to downloading "Steal this album" from LimeWire over a Dial-up connection.
Beautiful vocals. Straight 🔥.🤘😆🤘 I don't know what Cap or No Cap, though I do have an idea. But I know in a few years anyone still saying them will be called old.
Thanks for your comments about their visual appearance, Saiki etc.... Those are very similar thoughts in my head, most of which I can't even really put into words in my native language. 😆🙏🏻 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - ♬ *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' ♬🕊️
Agree totally with your analysis. Band-Maid is great at mixing familiar riffs within their songs but creating newer ones. That familiarity makes them interesting and enjoyable to listen to but the thundering rhythm section surprises many. Vocal harmonies…mixing of English and Japanese. Which is what them unique! 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
Excellent analysis. Bandmaid dropped their management company of 11 years(Platinum Passport) and now are self-managed (MAIDIT). If their latest masterpiece(rarely use this word) release, ZEN and the songs on the bottom half of their lastest EP Epic Narratives and Forbidden Tales is any indication which way BM is heading towards, coming years are going to be special.
The songs already released earlier last year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. Thx, Eric!
Brother they just dropped another brand new song called Zen. It is for an Anime that is coming out. I never thought I would ever say this. It's my favorite Band Maid song. Normally it is whatever song by the Maids that is playing at the time. My friend, Zen is next level. Do NOT wait to check it out. Just a damn great song.

🤘Band-Maid just rocks! 🤘
Saiki wrote the lyrics😉
Btw, "Mikudayo" sounds like Japanese. If so, it means either "I'm Miku" or "It's Miku"...probably😏

“Miku Dayo”(ミクだよ) basically means “I’m Miku”😊

Saiki wanted the song to play like different traditional tales combined in the same book. She succeeds in the most pleasing way ! ❤
Great reaction as always. My brother, they just released an absolute banger called Zen. You need to check it out! 🤘
It took me a moment to get the name mikudayo. I believe it's pronounced Miku... Da yo(It's Miku)
